Basque Country | SPAIN Travel Guide

Join us on our travel adventures around Spain! We drive from the city of Santander to the beautiful Basque Country of Northern Spain!

Curious about our Travel Map for this region of Spain? Check it out here ????

Before truly entering the Basque Country, we took a short detour to the city of Burgos. Burgos is most famous for the impressive French Gothic Cathedral of St. Mary, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Burgos is filled with impressive street art, culture, food and, of course, the historic Castle of Burgos.

After our trip to Burgos, we officially enter the Basque Country with a visit to the de facto capital city, Bilbao. Bilbao is a city like no other, with its unique atmosphere, amazing street art, and the famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. One of the main highlights in Bilbao (and across all of the Basque Country) are the traditional delicacies, pinxtos!

After our time in Bilbao, we continue our drive across the northern coastline of the Basque Country with a visit to the town of Zumaia. Here, we take in some of the most amazing views we've seen in Spain, including a walk through the The Basque Coast UNESCO Geopark. An experience that was definitely worth it!

We finished our time in this section of our trip with a visit to the city of San Sebastian (also known as Donostia in Basque). The city is known for its two beaches, Playa de la Concha and Playa de Ondarreta, which are framed by the lovely beach front promenade. We also walked to the top of Urgull hill for panoramic views of San Sebastian. A great way to end our time here in the Basque Country!

Basque Country: French Culture - Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite

More info about travel to French Basque Country: French Basque Country is dotted with unique small towns throughout its varied terrain. Espelette, famous for its peppers, is worth a short stop. High in the Pyrenees, St.-Jean-Pied-de-Port has an endearing energy, with its mix of day-tripping families and hikers starting their trek to Santiago de Compostela. Bayonne on the coast has a more urban feel. #ricksteveseurope #ricksteves #basquecountry

Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures - big or small - and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. I've made over 150 Youtube videos in both English and Spanish, and I have aspirations to make 1000s more. If that sounds interesting to you, join the community and follow me along the way.. Basque Country: A Proud, Unique Culture - Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite

The ancient, free-spirited land of the Basques straddles France and Spain. These proud, industrious and independent people occupy a small yet diverse region between the Atlantic coast and the mountains. Insulated from outsiders for much of their history, Basques are united by unique traditions including the fast-paced sport of jai alai, men's gastronomic clubs, and their bewildering language — one of Europe's oldest. #ricksteveseurope #ricksteves #basquecountry
