Thailand Vacation Days – Bangkok To Ayutthaya by Local Train

Thailand Vacation Days – Bangkok To Ayutthaya by Local Train

the royal city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, makes for a perfect day trip. Luckily, Ayutthaya is only about 85 km (52 miles) from Bangkok, close enough for a day trip by train. While you can also take a bus, minivan, boat, car, or motorbike, I decided to take the train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya as it is fast, easy, cheap and quite comfortable. Founded in 1350, Ayutthaya was once the capital of the kingdom of Siam centuries before the land became known as Thailand. Today, the ruins of this city characterized by its giant spires, prang (reliquary towers), and moats surrounding the temples offers visitors a chance to explore a completely different side of the land of smiles.

All trains from Bangkok to other parts of Thailand leave from Hua Lamphong Station. It takes less than 1.5 hours by train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya and train tickets start at 15 Baht ($0.44) for 3rd class tickets. Getting to Hua Lamphong Station is pretty easy via the MRT (Bangkok subway). The train station is right next to the MRT station with the same name, Hua Lamphong. Walk into the building and go straight to the ticket counter, ignoring any possible scammers trying to talk to you. There are two different ticket counters: one for buying tickets in advance and one for buying tickets for today. Remember to bring your passport along, as it is often required to book tickets. Hua Lamphong Train Station actually has a lot to offer. I loved the open architecture but the fact that it also has luggage storage makes it even better for Thailand travelers. On top of that, there are a couple of shops and food vendors where you can pick up a quick and cheap breakfast.

Bangkok to Ayutthaya by slow train

So there are two train stations in Bangkok that can take you from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. Bang Sue Grand Station is the main station and quite far from the City center and Hua Lamphong Station which is the old station that are in the center(close to Chinatown)
If you're somewhere near Khaosan road or in Chinatown you can take from Hua Lamphong Train Station which is very close to the Chinatown, or if you're near Silom and Sathon Hua Lamphong Station is still the nearest one, you can take the MRT on the blue line to Hua Lamphong Station and it just right there near the exit.

And there are a few types of trains that leaves from BKK to Ayutthaya, the slow train which is the one I took and fares was only 15 Baht or $0.44 takes 2 hrs ride . And the faster train which I don't know how much it cost and how long does it take, you can ask at the ticket counter.

The first slow train leaves at 9:20am so make sure you show up at least 20 minutes before the departure time in case it could be busy with lots of people.

You can actually do one-day trip to Ayutthaya and back. The taxi from Ayutthaya station to the historical park cost 100 Baht or about $3 takes only 10 minutes ride. And the fee to the park cost 50 Baht or $1.50 and there are two main sites so you have to buy one ticket for each site.

Ayutthaya tour Bangkok to Ayutthaya to Chiang Mai by train

Ayutthaya tour Bangkok to Ayutthaya by private car, then Ayutthaya to Chiang Mai by train
To book your tour and trip
Start from Bangkok to Ayutthaya in private car, then take the train from ayutthaya to Chiang Mai by sleeper train.

WONDERS OF AYUTTHAYA
The tour starts with a pickup in a private car from the hotel in downtown Bangkok leaving for Ayutthaya and requires a full day. Just an hour’s drive north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya makes for a wonderful day trip.

Ayutthaya the ancient capital of Thailand has lots of fascinating historical edifices and feature replicas of the county's most significant landmarks and monuments. Each of the structures is in their proper geographic position, and includes palaces, bell towers, pavilions, temples, floating markets, Buddha images and shrines. There is also displays of artifacts and antiques, including rural arts, ancient tools, and hunting equipment - evidence of the long-term survival of a native culture.

This Ancient capital is famous for its history-rich temple ruins and summer palaces. Many of its temples are still intact. Visiting the many ruins of Ayutthaya makes a very interesting day tour from Bangkok. The ruins are beautiful and evocative. An amazing historic site which would have been stunning before it was plundered. The place is steeped in Thai history. I like this city very much. It is really wonderful to look at all the old ruin and imagine what a city this must have been. There are so many temples and little areas that bring a smile to my face. You will visit many sights including the WatPuthaisawan, WatMahathat, WatPananChoeng and WatPhra Sri Samphet, WatYai Chai Mongkol, Wat MongkolBophit, Wat chai wattanaram.

On this tour you will see a whole host of relics, such as the Buddha’s head buried within the roots of an ancient fig tree and a larger than life reclining Buddha. The temples here are breathtaking. As you walk around the streets of Ayutthaya, you will spot a lot of shops selling an interesting concoction. Roti Sai Mai is a famous local snack which is basically straw like sticks of candy floss rolled in spring roll skin. The afternoons there can get incredibly hot and there is limited shade around the Wats.

The train is another popular way to get in and out of Ayutthaya. You will have such experience too when you join the luxurious night train on your way to Chiang Mai when you will leave Ayutthaya. Enjoy a wonderful time there. It's really a wonders of the world.
