Negara Brunei Darussalam - The Capital Bandar Seri Begawan

Bandar Seri Begawan is the capital and largest city of Brunei. It has an estimated population of about hundred thousand people. The first settlement on the banks of the Brunei River can be traced to the 8th century.

The Royal Regalia Museum, officially opened in 1992, houses the regalia of the Sultan and the royalty, as well as exhibits related to the commemorations of the Silver and Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's rule of Brunei.

Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, completed in 1958, is often considered as one of the most beautiful mosques in the Asia Pacific. The mosque has marble minarets and golden domes, a courtyard and is surrounded by a large number of trees and floral gardens.

Southeast of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah shopping mall.

The Times Square Shopping Mall is located near the international airport.

In February 2020 the Japan Language & Cultural Festival 2020 took place in the Times Square Shopping Mall.

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei - Brunei River (Sungai Brunei) Boat Tour HD (2015)

The Brunei River is a river which flows through Brunei and empties into Brunei Bay towards the North-east direction. The Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei, stands on its banks. The Brunei River is the shortest major river in Brunei Darussalam. Brunei Darussalam's traditional residential areas, Kampong Ayer (Water Village), is situated on the river. Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei Darussalam, stands on its banks. The upper reaches of the river are an important source of freshwater for the western parts of the country.

Brunei has a long maritime history. The Sultans of Brunei once controlled all Borneo, plus parts of the Philippines and Indonesia. The region's thick jungle means the method of transport and communication was always via boats. This led to traditional settlements being established beside rivers and waterways. These waterways provided convenient transport through a jungle environment, and a supply of food.

In 2006 Brunei ministry's Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (Jastre) initiated the clean-up campaign of the Brunei River. A total of $3.9 million has been allocated for the clean-up project, in addition to the $90,000 for the house-to-house waste collection.

Market day inTutong Brunei!

I love going to the Tutong Market, in fact I love all the markets in Brunei, they are such a vibrant and colourful place to go and there is always something interesting to see and something delicious to buy. If you are a tourist it’s also a very good place to pick up a souvenir.

As the Brunei Times says “Tutong’s Kompleks Pasarneka dan Tamu in Kampung Serambangun bursts into life every Thursday for market day.”

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei - Brunei Legislative Council Building HD (2015)

Legislative Council of Brunei (Malay: Majlis Mesyuarat Negara Brunei (مجليس مشوارت نڬارا بروني)) is the parliament in Brunei.

Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace (Malay: Negara Brunei Darussalam, Jawi: نڬارا بروني دارالسلام‎), is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, the country is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. It is separated into two parts by the Sarawak district of Limbang. Brunei is the only sovereign state completely on the island of Borneo; the remainder of the island's territory is divided between the nations of Malaysia and Indonesia. Brunei's population was 408,786 in July 2012.

At the peak of the Bruneian Empire, Sultan Bolkiah (reigned 1485–1528) is alleged to have had control over most regions of Borneo, including modern-day Sarawak and Sabah, as well as the Sulu archipelago off the northeast tip of Borneo, Seludong (modern-day Manila), and the islands off the northwest tip of Borneo. The maritime state was visited by Spain's Magellan Expedition in 1521 and fought against Spain in 1578's Castille War.

During the 19th century, the Bruneian Empire began to decline. The Sultanate ceded Sarawak (Kuching) to James Brooke and installed him as the White Rajah, and it ceded Sabah to the British North Borneo Chartered Company. In 1888, Brunei became a British protectorate and was assigned a British resident as colonial manager in 1906. After the Japanese occupation during World War II, in 1959 a new constitution was written. In 1962, a small armed rebellion against the monarchy was ended with the help of the British.

Brunei gained its independence from the United Kingdom on 1 January 1984. Economic growth during the 1990s and 2000s, with the GDP increasing 56% from 1999 to 2008, transformed Brunei into an industrialised country. It has developed wealth from extensive petroleum and natural gas fields. Brunei has the second-highest Human Development Index among the Southeast Asia nations, after Singapore, and is classified as a developed country. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Brunei is ranked fifth in the world by gross domestic product per capita at purchasing power parity. The IMF estimated, in 2011, that Brunei was one of two countries (the other being Libya) with a public debt at 0% of the national GDP. Forbes also ranks Brunei as the fifth-richest nation out of 182, based on its petroleum and natural gas fields.

Walking to the Waterfront of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei

After sleeping well into the afternoon the day after a late-night flight into BWN Airport from Bangkok, Thailand, I leave the Jubilee Hotel at 5:21 p.m. and walk south to the Sungai Brunei River, the location of Kampong Ayer, the world’s largest overwater stilt settlement with an estimated 20,000 residents living in 42 villages.

Ada perasaan lega ketika pesawat Royal Brunei Airlines ini akan mendarat di Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport. Saya seperti merasa pulang kampung hahaha.

Dari kejauhan tampak landscape Bandar Seri Begawan dengan landmark Istana Nurul Iman, Masjid Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, dll.

Comfort seat, good food, hospitality & smooth landing. Such a perfect flight. Thanks Royal Brunei Airlines.

Lunch in Bandar Seri Bagawan - Capital of Brunei Darussalam Nadine Burzler

Probably the world's shortest visit to Brunei..

My 10 hour visit consisted of: A meeting, a quick ( and incredibly delicious!) lunch and then another meeting followed by a flight back to KK.

Luckily I was introduced to a super friendly taxi driver who stopped en-route to every meeting to allow for some quick snaps of two of the most famous landmarks in Brunei's capital.
