Volcanic Hot Springs, La Fortuna | Costa Rica | Tabacón vs Free

#HotSpringsCostaRica #Tabacón #LaFortuna

The volcanic hot springs at the base of Arenal volcano are one of the main tourist attractions in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. These natural thermal spas (or Agua Termales) are around 38°C/100°F but different pools have different temperatures.

La Fortuna has a wide range of hot springs and spas where you can soak in the mineral rich volcanic water. These include Ecotermales, Baldi and the most famous one, Tabacón which is part of the Tabacón Resort & Spa.

We visited Tabacón thermal hot springs as well as the free hot springs in La Fortuna, which are right next door. We wanted to see whether the $70 USD entrance fee to Tabacón was worth the spa experience....and whether you should visit the premium hot springs and spas or just got to the completely natural spas (that are free).

Whilst you can stay at Tabacón resort and gain access to the spa, most people pay for a 4 hour visit either 10am - 2pm or 6pm - 10pm with prices starting from $70 depending on the time of year. You can also buy a full day pass with lunch or dinner (or both) with prices ranging from $85 - $105 USD. Finally, as a spa they also offer a range of other services such as massage on site.

To book:

The free hot springs are just across the road from Tabacón and use exactly the same thermal river! They may not be as pristine but you are still surrounded by nature and the rainforest that covers much of La Fortuna.

La Fortuna, Costa Rica Budget Travel Vlog | Arenal Volcano, Rio Celeste, Hot Springs

La Fortuna offers so much variety when it comes to things to do and see in Costa Rica! We spent four days in La Fortuna and enjoyed every minute of it, especially because everything was so affordable! The local food was so flavorful and being immersed in such lush nature was absolutely breath-taking. If you're lucky, you might catch a view of the Arenal Volcano when it's not hiding behind the clouds. We were able to see the sunset over the volcano and it was a sight like no other! La Fortuna is amazing overall. Don't get us started on the waterfalls and the sky blue waters - watch for yourself! If you enjoy this video, please be sure to SUBSCRIBE for future content; we greatly appreciate it!

The Hertz/Firefly Car Rental in San Jose Costa Rica provided the WORST customer service we have ever experienced from a car rental place (They gave away the automatic car we reserved, only gave us an option to drive a manual car which we were unable to do, and even if we were able to drive manual they increased the daily rental price 10-fold).

We recommend you look elsewhere for a car rental ( or check out our truly AMAZING Uber driver and friend named ALEJANDRO who drove us all over Costa Rica.

Watch this video to see how we spent 4 days in Costa Rica for $439/pp. Prices can of course vary depending on dates, and the number of people you travel with. This is just to give you an idea!

The Springs Costa Rica Resort & Spa - Arenal Volcano & Lake Arenal Thermal Springs Full Hotel Tour!

You most likely heard about The Springs, Costa Rica's finest luxury destination to have the best views of the Arenal Volcano nestled in the hilly green forests of La Fortuna, Costa Rica, from one of the major travel publications.

What Makes The Springs Resort in Costa Rica So Special?

The team at All World Travel has been to the resort TWICE, and we give it two thumbs way up. Our most recent trip, in 2022, was all documented and put into this full video tour of The Springs Resort & Spa.

Find out what makes The Springs Resort & Spa in Costa Rica a true bucket list destination.

Have you ever wanted to relax in the off the grid atmosphere of La Fortuna, Costa Rica?

Have you ever wanted to sip a cocktail in 90+ degree Thermal Springs that have the best view of the Arenal Volcano?

You can do that, and much more, right at the base of the Arenal Volcano, a true natural wonder of the world that you must see.

Just a 2.5 hour drive from Libera, Costa Rica, the International airport we recommend you fly into, you'll pass the scenic views of Lake Arenal, which is a peaceful, gorgeous lake you'll have the pleasure to drive around on your way to La Fortuna. You'll also pass through the city of Nuevo Arenal, where you'll find little stores, shops, and places to eat should you need to grab a snack for the last stretch of the ride. Other than that, the stops are few and far between as you drive winding, (yet paved) roads through the majestic landscapes that make Costa Rica so in-demand.

Once you arrive, you will see the 165 acre property that's nestled 1,000 feet about the Arenal Valley on the mountain ridge just 6 kilometers from the active Arenal Volcano. The hotel is safe from the danger zone declared by the government in case the volcano were to erupt. The placement of the Springs hotel offers the best views of the Arenal Volcano, and every vantage point from the restaurants and bars were designed to give a birds eye view at all times.

Families are sure to enjoy the water slide, signature putt-putt course, kids’ game lounge and our Club Rio Adventure Center offering river tubing, kayaking, horseback riding, rock climbing, hot springs and our amazing Animal Sanctuary.

Things to Do at The Springs Resort & Spa Costa Rica:

There is PLENTY to do, let's get into some of the highlights:

*Club Rio Adventure Center, which offers tubing down the river, kayaking, horse back riding, rock climbing, hot springs, and a wildlife sanctuary.
*Spa - two in fact. One in the main building and one nestled in Club Rio, which offers a tropical setting perched high above the river in a natural setting. (HIGHLY recommend.)
*Multiple bars in thermal spring waters, including the main bar with a full swim up bar featuring menus from all restaurants.
*Multiple restaurants on premises.
*Nature walks, hikes, and volcano tours.
*ATV rides.

And much, much more. Personally we enjoyed doing activities every morning and then lounging in the pool all afternoon, then enjoying the cuisine at night.

What are the Thermal Springs Like by Arenal Volcano?

Natural Hot Mineral Springs, Pools and Waterfalls are all part of the experience here! With temperatures ranging from 83 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and environments that vary from raging waterfalls to tranquil forest experiences, you'll find the perfect temperature for you to soak and relax in.

Whether for adventure, relaxation, or a mix of the two, you'll never want to leave the Springs Hotel & Resort. The best views of the Arenal Volcano can NOT be faked, and this is one of the best boutique hotels not only in Costa Rica, but in the world.

And this, our friends, comes from our well traveled staff at AllWorld.com, and All World YouTube Travel Channel.

Caña Negro lets you take a relaxing safari boat to see its many animal inhabitants. You can also check out Tortuguero National Park or see sloths on the Bogarin Trail. One of the best things to do in La Fortuna if you want to see everything it has to offer is Arenal National Park. It’s the best place to start because you’ll see many famous sites. These include Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal.

La Fortuna has hanging bridges that sit over its beautiful jungles and let you watch wildlife from on high. One of the best places to see them is in the Mistico Arenal Park. Years of volcanic activity are part of what makes La Fortuna such a popular destination. It has a wide range of hot springs and warm pools to help you melt your worries away. Thrill-seekers will love flying through the jungle like Tarzan. They can go ziplining or jump off the El Sato rope swing. La Fortuna also has rivers with rapids that are large enough to travel down on a raft or inner tube.

La Fortuna is more than a jungle thanks to spots like La Fortuna Town. It’s full of delicious restaurants and a perfect place to meet the locals. Most tours of La Fortuna take you to popular tourist spots like Arenal Volcano, but a few are more specialized. You can go on one that will help you learn about the process of making coffee, chocolate, or both.

Like and subscribe to ViewCation for more tips for an unforgettable jungle adventure. Watch our video to learn about the best things to do in La Fortuna, Costa Rica.

TRANSCRIPT

Good morning everyone, my name is Samantha from Mytanfeet and welcome to our Youtube channel. In this video today we are going to visit Arenal volcano on a 1 day tour from San Jose, we're very excited as this is a very popular day tour from the city so let's go.

The Arenal Volcano one day tour lets you experience a bit of La Fortuna and something worth mentioning about the tour is that they can leave you in La Fortuna at the end of the day if its your next destination.

The first stop on the tour was Sarchi, Costa Rica's most famous woodworking, arts and crafts center and birthplace of the oxcart.

The oxcart is the national symbol of Costa Rica and the case of the oxcart is a very important part of our history, it's not just something cultural its something also related to our history that's the reason why we come here and learn about the oxcart is something extremely important.

Guys this is one of the wheels from one of the largest oxcarts in the world, look at the size of this thing.

This part of the tour stops at the Eloy Alfaro oxcart factory which is the only one left in Costa Rica producing the handmade oxcarts on a regular basis. The factory, which is over 100 years old, is still powered by a huge water mill and everything is produced right here, including the wood cutting and painting. The elaborate colorful paintings on the oxcart is what solidified it as a national icon of Costa Rica and this factory proudly produced the largest oxcart in the world, which sits in the town square of Sarchi.

After our factory visit, we continued onto La Fortuna, about a 2 hour drive.

We have arrived at our lunch spot here in La Fortuna, we are hungry so let's go get some food.

Lunch, which is included in the tour, was either Costa Rican rice with chicken, a burger or a traditional lunch.

We just finished our lunch and now we are going to go to the 1968 reserve to walk off all that delicious food and we have an amazing view of Arenal volcano completely clear right now.

We are now at the 1968 reserve we are going to go to the lookout point which is just a 5 minute walk from the entrance.

Today is such a beautiful day here in la Fortuna as you can see the arenal volcano is just perfectly clear and wow its just amazing to see.

We are located at arenal 1968 it's a viewpoint and we're located near the national park. This spot has the best view of the arenal volcano all over the la fortuna and you can see different sections of the volcano, you can see the lava flow 1968, you can see different formations of the volcano and from here you can see the lake arenal, this is the biggest and most important reservoir of water in costa rica, it has an extension of 86 square kilometers and from here we will give you an explanation of the volcano and an explanation of the scenery in general and of course if you have any question, it is welcome.

We spent about 20-30 minutes at the viewpoint, soaking in the incredible views of the volcano and after we left, we drove 15 minutes to the hot spring resort. Thanks to the naturally hot Tabacon river, La Fortuna is the top destination in Costa Rica for hot springs. A visit to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano is not complete without a stop at the hot springs.

This is the Ecotermales hot springs where we're going to stay for a couple of hours to relax and wind down the day, also this is where we're going to have dinner.

Ecotermales has 6 pools of various temperatures as well as one cooler temperature fresh water pool and a waterfall. They also offer a bar with poolside service. For dinner, they had a great buffet of meat, salads, veggies, soup, desserts, which were all delicious and very filling.

This is the end of our video of our one day tour to Arenal volcano from san jose, we hope you guys enjoyed the video, I'm samantha from Mytanfeet if you want any more information about booking this tour just click on the links in the description below. Thanks for watching and we'll see you in the next one.

Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa has some of the BEST hot springs in Costa Rica.
Located at the base of the Arenal Volcano in the jungle. La Fortuna has a range of hot springs and spas where you can soak in the mineral rich volcanic water. These include Baldi , Ecotermales and the most famous and beautiful one, Tabacón which is part of the Tabacón Resort & Spa. It's a short walk down the street from the resort.

A 4 hour visit either 10am - 2pm or 6pm - 10pm will cost you $70 depending on the time of year. You can also buy a full day pass with lunch or dinner (or both) ranging from $85 - $105 USD. Finally, as a spa they also offer a range of other services such as massage on site. These natural thermal spas (or Agua Termales) are around 38°C/100°F and there's a few pools that have cooler temperatures.

We almost didn't come here because of the price. SO glad we did because it was one of the highlights of the 10 day trip (I still dream about being there sometimes). This place was amazing and so worth the price of a day pass just to experience this beautiful place.

Yes, you can do this for free just down the street it's the same river that flows through Tabacon and it really has a jungle feel BUT it's not nearly the same feel and atmosphere as the Resort and Spa. It can also get SUPER crowed but if you're on a budget it's still totally worth a visit to the free area!

Insane Waterslide at Baldi Hot Springs in La Fortuna, Arenal, Costa Rica II

a waterslide that definitely would not be legal in the US, seeing as how it had a crazy drop-off at the end that probably caused some whiplash and other head injuries. at the base of volcano Arenal in Costa Rica, spring 2008
