What to See at TAM-AWAN VILLAGE | Baguio City Tourist Spots | 4K WALKING TOUR [Travel & Backpacking]

Baguio City tour 2021 under New Normal / where to go in Baguio - travel destinations and tourist spots. Tam Awan Village – Garden In the sky. TAM-AWAN VILLAGE, BAGUIO CITY TRAVEL GUIDE. Adress: 366-C Pinsao Proper, 2600 Baguio City, Philippines. Tam-awan Village is one of Baguio City’s nice attractions, created by the Chanum Foundation in 1998. The Village which is an artist’s haven is located on the outskirts of the city. Getting there may be a little tricky but we’d never regretted. A minimal entrance fee gets visitors inside the compound to explore the grounds which is situated beside the hill. The whole village prides itself on its art gallery, coffee shop, and the various collection of Ifugao and Kalinga huts: nine authentic knockdown Ifugao huts (seven of which were from Bangaan, Ifugao and two came from Kalinga), some over a hundred years old. The oldest is the Annaba hut. Others include the octagonal Luccong hut (or binayon) for aristocrats; and the Dukligan (Ifugao fertility hut). The Village is a project of the Chanum Foundation (a group of artists headed by Ben Cab). The different native huts and other areas were used for workshops and exhibits. The Tam-awan Village, Baguio City is also a good place to purchase a painting or drawing by one of the many well-known artists who have their artwork displayed at the place. Tam-awan in the local idiom means “vantage point,” an appropriate name for a collection of Cordillera Huts that sit on a hillside that affords visitors a magnificent view of the South China Sea on a clear day. How to Get to Tam-awan Village, Baguio City. By car — from Burnham Park: take Harrison Road and go up Abanao Road and proceed to Naguilian Road. From Naguilian, turn right to Quezon Hill Road 2, which connects to Tacay Road. On Tacay Road, keep going straight until you reach a fork in the road, Take the road on the left and keep going until you reach the place.

Comply with the requirements especially for using their own vehicle since there two PNP checkpoints that you will encounter and they both stop all incoming traffic to check documents

Important to check the Visita Baguio site to see latest advisories and requirements. It is best you book in advance since the city has a max cap for daily tourist

252 STEPS to BAGUIO City's LOURDES GROTTO | Tourist Spots | 4K WALKING TOUR [Travel 2021]

Baguio City Tour 2021 New Normal travel - where to go in Baguio 2021 / 2022 - tourist spots and travel destination walk tour in 4K Philippines. The Lourdes Grotto (Address: Dominican Hill Rd, Baguio, 2600 Benguet) is a Catholic shrine and place of prayer and meditation located on Mirador Hill in the western part of Baguio. Inside the grotto is a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. Lourdes Grotto is particularly crowded on Sundays and during Holy Week, when pilgrims and devotees come to seek the blessing of the Virgin Mary. To reach the shrine the visitor must climb 252 steps. When you reach the top of the stairs, it is traditional to light a candle. An excellent view of the city is to be had from the grotto. Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto (Baguio City, Benguet): This is a Catholic shrine and pilgrimage site assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, located on Dominican Hill Road Baguio, Philippines. The Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto (or simply the Grotto or Lourdes Grotto), a Catholic shrine and place of prayer and meditation, is one of the most popular attractions in Baguio City. Located on Mirador (meaning “prospect point”) Hill, in the western part of the city, this very familiar and much photographed spot is particularly crowded on Sundays and during Holy Week, when pilgrims and devotees come to seek the blessing of the Virgin Mary. Visitors to this popular tourist destination have increased in numbers over the years. On Good Friday, it is estimated that about 10,000 people visit the grotto. To reach the shrine, visitors must climb 252 steps or drive a light vehicle up a winding and steep paved road. When you reach the top of the stairs, it is traditional to light a candle. The century-old Lourdes Grotto, an integral adjunct of the Mirador Jesuit Villa, was constructed in 1913 at the initiative of Fr. José Algue, S.J., the director of the Manila Observatory. It was made of the same limestone, probably gathered on Mirador Hill, and was built, in slow stages, by Jesuit scholastics (seminarians), brothers and fathers, usually during the summer when Jesuits on vacation would augment the community’s population. The stairway, from the grotto to the foot of the hills, was completed five years later. The steps began as stones laid on the ground but was later covered with cement. Inside the grotto is a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. The image, of polychromed molave, was carved by noted sculptor Isabelo Tampingco, whose name is inscribed (“I. Tampingco Manila 1913”) at the back of the statue. Above the statue are inscribed the Latin words Tota Pulchra Es Maria (“You are beautiful Mary,” part of an old Catholic prayer of the same title). An excellent view of the city can be had from the grotto. Within the shrine is the Kapilya nina Hesus at Maria (Chapel of Jesus and Mary). Commonly known as the Lourdes Grotto Chapel, inside is an image of the Divine Mercy on the left and Our Lady of Lourdes on the right.
