Are you planning a trip to Kyrgyzstan in 2017? Looking for Things to Do in Kyrgyzstan? This video and playlist could be for you!

First World Traveller heads to Bishkek, which is the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is located in Central Asia, bordering Kazakhstan to the North, China to the East, the other Stans (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan) to the west and Afghanistan to the south (although not bordering).

Kyrgyzstan is a brilliantly diverse country, with influences from India, China, Russia, the Middle East and more. This video details a trip to Osh Bazaar in Bishkek, which is typical of Kyrgyz bazaars, selling clothing, souvenirs and most interestingly, Kyrgyz food, from Besbarmaq, Boorsoq, Kyrgyz Naan, Plov and more.

Also, check out the food area of Osh Bazaar, including local fruit & vegetables, flour, rice, dried fruit & nuts and spices, which together result in an amazing aroma and a great introduction to Kyrgyzstan!

Bishkek Osh Bazaar | Things to do in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan

The Bishkek Osh Bazaar is the second largest Bazaar in Kyrgyzstan and one of the best things to do in Bishkek. It's a must see and close to the Apple Hostel where I stayed.

Osh Bazaar is the perfect place to go and get lost but also to grab some Kyrgyz local food.

Kyrgyzstan is a gorgeous country. Especially when the world's second highest lake, Lake Issyk Kul is located to the north of the country.

In this video, First World Traveller has a beach holiday in Bosteri, on the north shore of Lake Issyk Kul, east of Cholpon-Ata, about 6 hours drive from Bishkek on a Marshrutka. Check out my Airbnb nightmare from hell!

Bosteri is very much a tourist area, primarily frequented by Russian tourists. You can swim in the lake! Although it can be cold even in Summer! A great thing about this area is that you have Lake Issyk Kul on one side and the mountains on the other! Fantastic!

Osh Bazaar is one of the largest markets in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan. It is still in the same spot as it was on along the famous Silk Road trading route. In this video, I am joined by my flatmate Max as we go explore this market and try new foods.

Exploring BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN'S Ancient Silk Road Markets ????????

Welcome to my first Travel Vlog in Kyrgyzstan! In this Kyrgyzstan Travel Vlog I explore the 2 ancient silk road markets in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is the capital city of Kyrgyzstan and is home to some of Central Asia’s best markets. Many locals in Kyrgyzstan have told me that visiting the Dordoy (Dordoi) Market and the Osh Bazaar are like taking a step back in time to the old silk road. The Silk Road was an ancient trading route connecting the East and the West, where goods like spices, teas, silk, and so much more were exchanged across the world.

The first Central Asian Market I visited was the Dordoi Bazaar Bishkek (Dordoi Market), which is located about 15 minutes outside the center of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The Dordoy Bazaar Bishkek is one of Central Asia’s biggest markets and is focused more on wholesale and retail items with everything from clothes to household goods, and so much more. The Dordoy Market is home to thousands of blue containers where the local vendors sell their products. The Dordoi Market is a huge bustling bazaar and it was an amazing experience to wonder around the bazaar.

After visiting the Dordoy Market, I took a taxi to the Osh Bazaar Bishkek Kyrgyzstan, which is the most famous bazaar in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The Bishkek Osh Bazaar is really like taking a step back in time to the ancient silk road. The Osh Bazaar is full of spices, dried fruits, nuts, breads, teas, and so much more. The smells and sounds of the Osh Bazaar are like nothing I have ever experienced. At the Bishkek Osh Bazaar I decided to buy some dried fruits, nuts, and local Kyrgyz bread. The vendors in the Osh Bazaar Bishkek Kyrgyzstan are extremely friendly too! If you visit Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan I would highly recommend a visit to the Bishkek Osh Bazaar to get a glimpse of the local culture. The Osh Bazaar is a famous market in Central Asia and is definitely one of my favorite markets I have ever been to in the entire world. I hope you enjoyed my first Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan travel vlog and wondering 2 of the best Central Asia Markets!

This is just the beginning of my adventures in Kyrgyzstan so make sure to SUBSCRIBE if you are not already as I take you along with me to discover this incredible country!

Meeting a Kyrgyz family ???????? and the crazy Osh Bazaar in Bishkek | Central Asia Vlog

While I was walking alone in a park in downtown Bishkek, a guy invited me to come sit with his family. I instantaneously accepted his invitation and sat with them on a bench. They were very nice and friendly. I tried speaking Russian the whole time. My russki is still not fluent, but I know I'll have to pick it up again in the near future.

Before coming to Kyrgyzstan, I never really spoke any Russian. So this is the first hands-on, or better yet, tongue-on experience. ????

Osh Bazaar is one of the largest bazaars in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. It is located on the west side of town, and is not far from the Western Bus Station. At Osh Bazaar, one can buy food products, almost any common household good, clothes, souvenirs, and even musical instruments. Kyrgyz national clothes are sold in the national goods section, called Kyyal (Kyrgyz: Кыял - fantasy/dream), and may be special ordered (for size, colour, etc.) through the bazaar vendors. The national goods section also includes vendors who sell carved wooden trunks (Kyrgyz: сандык), national bedding (Kyrgyz: төшөк), national cradles (Kyrgyz: бешик), small souvenirs, and many other locally produced items relevant to the traditional and modern culture of Kyrgyzstan.

Bishkek:
Bishkek, is the capital and largest city of Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyz Republic). Bishkek is also the administrative centre of the Chuy Region. The province surrounds the city, although the city itself is not part of the province, but rather a province-level unit of Kyrgyzstan.
In 1991 the Kyrgyz parliament changed the capital's name to Bishkek.Bishkek is situated at an altitude of about 800 meters (2,600 ft), just off the northern fringe of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, an extension of the Tian Shan mountain range. These mountains rise to a height of 4,855 meters (15,928 ft) and provide a backdrop to the city. North of the city, a fertile and gently undulating steppe extends far north into neighboring Kazakhstan. The Chui River drains most of the area. Bishkek is connected to the Turkestan-Siberia Railway by a spur line.
Bishkek is a city of wide boulevards and marble-faced public buildings combined with numerous Soviet-style apartment blocks surrounding interior courtyards. There are also thousands of smaller privately built houses, mostly outside the city centre. Streets follow a grid pattern, with most flanked on both sides by narrow irrigation channels, watering innumerable trees to provide shade in the hot summers.
State Historical Museum, located in Ala-Too Square, the main city square.
State Museum of Applied Arts, containing examples of traditional Kyrgyz handicrafts
Frunze House Museum
Statue of Ivan Panfilov in the park near the White House.
An equestrian statue of Mikhail Frunze stands in a large park (Boulevard Erkindik) across from the train station.
The train station was built in 1946 by German prisoners of war and has survived since then without further renovation or repairs; most of those who built it perished and were buried in unmarked pits near the station.
The main government building, the White House, is a huge, seven story marble block and the former headquarters of the Communist Party of the Kirghiz SSR
At Ala-Too Square there is an independence monument where the changing of the guards may be watched.Osh bazaar, west of the city centre, is a large, picturesque produce market.

BEACHES, OFF ROAD and HOT SPRINGs in KYRGYZSTAN! - The Way Overland - Episode 63

Lake Issyk-Kul.. Animals, mountains, crystal clear water and the place all to ourselves, what more could we ask for?!

Well, we started off with some bad weather and a classic case of the flu wiping us for a few days. Thankfully as we emerged from the confines of the Troopy the sun returned ready for us to go exploring.

We continued driving around the lake to the town Karakol. A great spot to stock up before venturing up the valley to Altyn Arashan, a drive which we’d been told would be very difficult in our 4wd. We were up for the challenge and decided that it was worth a try to check out the hot springs and mountain views that the valley is known for. Plus it’d been awhile since we’d been on a more challenging 4wd track, which we breezed up… What was everyone going on about?!

The drive up was slow and steady over the rocky sections, a wee bit icy in the middle and muddy at the end of the valley. All of this plus the incredible views made for a really great day.

Getting to the end we finished off on foot to go and find the hot springs. The spring is a small manmade pool big enough for 2, maybe 3 people which is fed by a natural spring coming out of the side of the mountain. When we arrived there were already 2 people in the pool, so as to not make it awkward crashing their party we waited till they were done to jump in. With no one else around we had the whole place to ourselves.

There are guest houses in the village though we ventured back up the track a little bit and found a flat(ish) and protected spot to camp for the night and lit a fire, something we hadn’t done for a very long time though perfect for these night time temps.

That’s it for our little 4x4 adventure up Altyn Arashan. In the next episode we continue exploring the surrounding areas of Lake Issyk-Kul.

Thanks for watching!

Are you planning a trip to Kyrgyzstan in 2017? Looking for Things to Do in Kyrgyzstan in and around the Bishkek area? In this video First World Traveller briefly checks out Ala Archa National Park, a large 200 sq km park roughly 50 minutes south of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

Ala Archa National Park was established in 1976 and offers numerous activities from hiking and mountain climbing around the various hills, mountains, glaciers and rivers. I went in Summer therefore the views are probably more spectacular in Winter!

The Archa (where the park gets it's name) is a Juniper tree common to the area and Kyrgyzstan's altitude. It was once believed that these trees chase off evil spirits, however if they were planted too close to a house they would suck the energy from those living inside!

Osh is Kyrgyzstan’s southern capital, and one of the oldest cities in the country. With a history estimated to stretch back 3000 years, Osh has long been a central city in the Fergana Valley. Osh has also been historically significant in many different eras, from being home to a large bazaar to being the birthplace of Kurmanjan Datka.

It’s hard to confirm exactly how old Osh is, and though artifacts have been found dating to the 5th century BCE, many say that the city is 3000 years old. Legends say that the city was founded by Solomon, or maybe Alexander the Great. No matter what the legends say, Osh has been a crucial point for merchants and traders for millennia. The bazaar, located along the Ak-Bura River, has been in its same location for many centuries.

In medieval times, Osh was an important trading city. Nomads would come from the mountains to sell livestock, and merchants would come from Asia and Europe with caravans of goods. In 1762, Osh became part of the Khanate of Kokand, and was one of the six main trading centers in the khanate.

In 1868, the Khanate of Kokand was annexed to the Russian Empire. Kurmanjan Datka, ruler of the Alai region, near Osh, stayed independent for a while longer, but in 1876, she led a peaceful transition to Russian power. The story of her life was adapted for a 2014 film, and she has been honored with statues around Kyrgyzstan (including one in Osh). Osh expanded under Russian rule, with European-style houses being built.

When borders were drawn to create the modern republics, Osh ended up in southern Kyrgyzstan, near the border with Uzbekistan. The city’s population of around 260,000 people is roughly evenly split between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek. Tensions have flared up occasionally, most notably in 1990 and 2010. Osh has since been calm for a number of years, and is well-loved for its distinct character and delicious plov.
