We recently got back from our 3rd trip to the Cook Islands, spending most of our time in Rarotonga (along with a few days in Aitutaki as well) and met a bunch of people who'd found our last Raro videos and had used them as a bit of a guide for their holiday. Welcome back to the Cook Islands, it's our 6th vlog in this series and only one more to go from Rarotonga - man, what a holiday it's been! There's plenty of things to do in Rarotonga, but understandably a lot of the activities, tours and things to do end up being the same just recycled. Like we mention in the video, that's to be expected and we love laxxing in amazing accommodation, exploring the island, snorkelling, visiting the night markets, tasting the food and touring the lagoon — BUT there is so much more!
So for this trip back to Rarotonga we really wanted to pick a few unique things to do, finding some activities that may not be on everyones to do list or at the top of the tours to book. What we found were 3 epic adventures we wanted to share.

Top 5 Things to do in RAROTONGA Cook Islands
If you're planning a trip to Rarotonga Cook Islands, then you might be wondering what are the top things to do in Raro. This video is here to help you out :)
On this episode we take you along to all the great activities we did during our week long stay in Rarotonga Cook Islands.
Number one on this Top 5 Things to do in Rarotonga video is doing some fun water activities. Luckily we were able to rent some kayaks for free from Pacific Resort which was the place where we were staying. We had a blast paddling our kayaks from our main island all around the lagoon in Muri.
But if your hotel doesn't have kayaks for hire you might want to check out The Dive Centre - The Big Fish for some snorkeling in Raro instead.
Address: Are Tapu Aroa Beach Rarotonga, Cook Islands
For $15 each, we hired some snorkels and had an amazing time looking at all the tropical fishes.
Yen's favourite activity during our stay was visiting:
Te Vara Nui Village
Address: Te Vara Nui, Ara Tapu, Cook Islands
We had a delicious buffet of local Cook Island food as well as an amazing live cultural show. The dancing and energy at Te Vara Nui is fantastic and something we really enjoyed. Definitely a highly recommended experience from both of us if you're holidaying in Rarotonga.
You can also check out Rarotonga town centre. Along the way you can pick up some local clothes and eat at some popular food spots.
To check out the food stops in full you'll need to wait for our Best Eats Rarotonga episode which comes out next week :)
You can also visit the Punanga Nui market while you're in Rarotonga's town centre. Or, if you are staying near the lagoon at Muri, conveniently there is another night market there. The Muri night market dishes cost around about $15 each and you can also expect to pay around $5 for a drink but you have to go early as food tends to sell out fast at Muri night market.
Finally if you're in Rarotonga you have got to do one of the famous treks, whether it is The Needle or Raemaru. They are both spectacular.
We opted for Raemaru Trek as it was a lot shorter. The incline was pretty challenging especially after a few days of rain and so it is best to be careful while scaling the mountain. Also bring plenty of insect repellent as there are a lot of mosquitoes.

Cook Islands BEST KEPT SECRET PARADISE: Aitutaki
The Cook Islands are somewhat unknown in the South Pacific, but they have a secret tropical paradise known as Aitutaki. It has the most beautiful lagoon, crystal clear tropical water, and perfect sandy beaches.
If you can't afford to stay on the island, you can take a day excursion or day trip to Aitutaki and see things much more affordably. You'll have to fly in and out on the same day, but we thought it added to the adventure!

Cook Islands lie in the center of the Polynesia triangle. Rarotonga is the most populous island of the Cook Islands. You will be rewarded with natural beauty and colorful experiences! The surrounding barrier reef protects the lagoons and beaches for safe and beautiful swimming and snorkeling.
1. Aitutaki Lagoon - The world's most beautiful lagoon with its clearly blue waters and unforgettable snorkeling!

2. One foot Island - This is the highlight of the pristine natural beauty of the lagoon. Here you can get your passport stamped at the most isolated post office in the world!

5. Black Rock Beach - The spectacular black volcanic rocks are surrounded by amazingly white sand, making this a perfect spot for a day at the beach. 6. Arorangi Cook Island Christian Church (CICC) - The cultural experience of the Cook Islands won't be complete without attending a church service with gorgeous songs. Stay close at: goo.gl/qlWLRT
7. Ancient and modern canoe circles - This archeological site commemorates the 7 ancient canoes (vaka) that completed the journey to New Zealand. The modern circle commemorates the 6 Polynesian canoes that arrived during the 6th Festival of Arts.
8. Arai te Tonga (marae) - The Island's most important marae, or sacred place. It was used for gatherings and prayers.
9. Highland Paradise (guilty rocks) - Cook Island cultural center, where you can learn about the Cook Island Maori culture and history. The guilty rocks are particularly interesting, as those who committed adultery where forced to carry the very large and heavy stones a certain distance.
10. sunset at Titikaveka Beach - During the day a great spot for snorkeling, and in the evening one of the best places to watch the often spectacular sunset!

Welcome back to the Cook Islands for episode 3 of 7 in this travel series. In this vlog we finally get to see what all the Aitutaki chat has been about, checking out the real highlight and top thing to do in Aitutaki, a lagoon tour into the turquoise waters.
Despite visiting the Cook Islands a few times we’ve always been told ‘unless you go to Aitutaki you really haven’t seen the Cook Islands’ — and after our time there, we can kinda see why people say it! Aitutaki is only small, but really shows how beautifully integrated the tourism and travel scene is with a local, traditional, Polynesian culture (which we’ll show more in the next vlog). But more than anything, its all about this lagoon and taking a lagoon tour to reach the outer motu’s and really see the beauty!
It’s easy to understand why Aitutaki is known as the ultimate honeymoon destination! Stay tuned, we've got 4 more Cook Islands vlogs to come as we make our way back to Rarotonga as well.
