British tourists meet Tunisian locals for first time

The BEST thing about travel is meeting new people around the world, connecting with strangers and opening our eyes to what normal life looks like around the world.

We don’t just mean the visible differences in culture that immediately hit you in the face when you visit a new country...but on a deeper level..where do people live and what’s the town like, what does their average day look like, what do they do for work and how do they make ends meet. Ultimately, what does ‘normal life' look like to them.

Today we visit a rural Tunisian town and get to experience just that before ending the day with a traditional family meal with new friends.

Hopefully you enjoy this Tunisia travel series, exploring less-explored landscapes and locations with us, seeing a new side to the country and an insight into how other people live.

If you're new around here, we're a British vanlife couple living full time in our self converted campervan. We've called our van our home for over 3 years now and spend 6-9 months each year taking roadtrips around Europe and beyond.

Don't forget to LIKE this video, SUBSCRIBE, and hit the BELL for notifications, if you want to come along on more vanlife adventures in unexplored places with us.

See you next Monday! C & M

What happens when an Israeli visits Egypt?

PatreEgypt and Israel are not exactly on the best terms. So if an Israeli visits Egypt, what is the reaction?

For some background on how Egyptians view israel, watch this video where people are asked which country they hate the most:

First time in TUNISIA - Meeting locals in TUNIS, the capital تونس

Hello everyone!

This is the start of a new series in which I explore Tunisia, the northernmost country in Africa. The series starts off with me exploring the capital city, Tunis, on my first day in Tunisia.

The goal on my first day was very much to orientate myself in the city, explore some markets, meet some locals and buy a Tunisian football jersey. I was particularly focused on meeting locals as there is no better way to really get to know a city than through the locals.

Before the start of the vlog, I asked a local man for directions to the Tunis medina, the vast market area where vendors try to sell some local and not-so-local merchandise.

As I walk towards the medina, I bump into this man again, who introduces himself to me as Abdul and self-appoints himself as my guide to the medina. He is quite the character as you will find out, taking me to various spots where vendors try to sell their merchandise. Trust me, you do not want to miss him taking me around the city!

After parting ways with Abdul, I stop for a Tunisian coffee at a local coffee shop, where I befriend a local man. He subsequently takes me to a vendor where I bargain in my attempt to buy a football jersey.

In the remainder of the vlog I provide insights and first impressions of the city.

Let's explore Tunisia! Please hit the like button on this video and, if you haven't already, please subscribe to my channel.

Trying TUNISIAN food! Tunis local food and STREET FOOD tour! الغذاء التونسي

We spent two days in Tunisia's capital of Tunis eating amazing Tunisian food and meeting super friendly locals - some let us sample their food, some gave us free makroudhs (Tunisian pastries) and some shared a giant feast with us while teaching us about Tunisian culture! As you can probably tell, the hospitality is truly amazing in Tunisia, and I am so thankful to everyone who made us feel so welcome in Tunisia!

Now, onto the food - we started our day off at a small, hole-in-the wall restaurant where a very cheerful man served us two classics: lablabi and ojja. Lablabi is a hearty chickpea stew made with harrisa (a spicy chili paste), pieces of bread, tuna and olives. A hearty and delicious start to the tour! The ojja (chicken and vegetables fried together with a lot of harissa and olive oil) may very well have been our favorite dish of this whole tour! Mopping up that caramelized chicken sitting in a pool of spicy harrisa and olive oil was just too good to be true.

After trying some awesome Tunisian tea following our first meal, we made our way to what seemed to be a pretty popular restaurant - El Baraka! Here, we tried an eggplant mix with lots of olive oil and tomatoes which we scooped up with more bread, as well as their signature grilled fish which was super smoky, with crispy skin and extremely tender and juicy meat!

On our way back to our accommodation we tried some Tunisian sweets called makroudh. They were amazing! We were also given these for free by the owners of the stand making them, we are so thankful! The Tunisian hospitality shines through here, once again!

Finally, the next day we meet up with two locals - Yassine and Yassine. Together we enjoy a giant Tunisian feast at the legendary Dar El Jeld, a restaurant a bit fancier than what we're usually used to! The interior was made in traditional Tunisian style and was stunningly beautiful. We tried a lot of food, ranging from fluffy cous cous (Tunisia's national dish), unbelievably tender lamb and stuffed phylo pastries (brik)! Everything was amazing, and on top of that, we were able to learn a lot about Tunisian culture thanks to our new friends, with whom we had a great time!

I am back in TUNISIA for the second time, but this time just for 24 hours as I regroup before heading tomorrow to LIBYA!

The last time I came here (4 years ago) I was a broke, lonely, budget backpacker and I had a mediocre time at best.

But this time around is a different story! I had this idea to find a random Tunisian stranger from Instagram and spontaneously meet up with him/her to have the BEST DAY we could possibly have.

Let's just say that I think I succeeded, but I'll let you be the judge :)
