Carles is going. home to visit Spain for 2 weeks as his first nephew will be born! Since it's the first time he'll be going home since we moved to Bangkok, we needed to buy presents for all his friends and family! We figured this would be the perfect excuse to go shopping at Asiatique the Riverfront in Bangkok! It's an adorable open air market along the banks of the Chao Phraya River! Asiatique is probably best recognized by it's huge Chang ferris wheel! What's even better about this market is that there is a free boat every half hour to take you from Saphan Taksin to Asiatique and back!

Asiatique, Bangkok, Thailand

A video review of Asiatique in Bangkok. Asiatique is a nightlife and shopping hot spot and the modern day answer to the traditional night market. Set on the banks of the River Chao Phraya, you can arrive there via the free shuttle boat from Saphan Taksin pier. The atmosphere is nice and friendly but retaining a vibrant buzz. Asiatique is open every night between 17:00 and 23:00 and is good option for families looking for a nice evening of souvenir shopping. World Market Man is the definitive guide to the worlds markets.

Asia Trip - Bangkok, Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha & Kamikaze TukTuk

We had a really great day in Bangkok in which we visited the Grand Palace and had a wander around the magnificent architecture there. After that we jumped in a Tuk Tuk and made our way to visit Wat Pho The Temple of the Reclining Buddha, we then had lunch at a restaurant beside the Chao Phraya River before getting a boat across to Wat Arun. We then made our way back to Khao San Road for a drink before heading to the Pat Pong Night Market. On the way back we diced with death in a crazy Kamikaze Tuk Tuk ride :-) It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we managed to pack all the sights that we wanted to visit in to just the one day.

Grand Palace Bangkok | Emerald Buddha Temple & Wat Pho Tour

From the Grand Palace in Bangkok, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, to Wat Pho, here are some of the places I visited in Bangkok during my trip to Thailand (and you should too).

???? Bangkok Grand Palace Tour

Located at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, the Grand Palace was a former residence of King Rama I to King Rama V of the Rattanakosin Kingdom.

Today, the place is used for hosting royal ceremonies and welcoming the king's guests, State guests, and other foreign dignitaries.

It is also a place where the remains of kings and high-ranked members of the royal family were situated before cremation.

???? Price: 1400 Baht

➡️ Wat Phra Kaew: One of the temples located within the Grand Palace complex is Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha).

It is aptly named for housing one of the country’s most sacred and revered statues. We’ll see the famed statue that was made from a single piece of jade and explore the temple grounds.

➡️ Buddhist temple in the Phra Nakhon District of Bangkok in Thailand. It is known in the English language as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This temple can be considered to be the most pious Buddhist shrine in the whole of Thailand.

The word ‘Wat’ means temple in this context. The site which has been chosen for this shrine is in the middle of two ancient wats, by the name of Mahathat Wat and Pho Wat.

➡️ The Emerald Buddha is a dark green colored figure statue that is carved in an upright form. The dimensions of the idol are 26 inches and 19 inches in length and breadth, respectively.

This idol is carved right out of a single piece of jade stone. The sculpture resembles that of the Lanna School of North Thailand.

The Buddha has a meditating look. The posture of the Emerald Buddha is that of a Yogi. He is shown sitting on his pedestal, with his legs crossed in ‘Sukhasana,’ as if he is engrossed in deep meditation.

???? Timings: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

???? Entry Fees

500 Baht Inclusive of access to Wat Phra Kaew, The Royal Thai Decorations & Coins Pavilion
and Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile, which are located within The Grand Palace compound

????️ How to Buy the Ticket

- From the ticket counter
- Official website of Royal Grand Palace
- Third-party websites such as Klook

???? How to Reach

Sky Train (BTS)

- BTS Saphan Taksin Station Exit 2
- Walk to the Chao Phraya River. Under the bridge, there is a Sathorn Pier. Chao Phraya Express Boat, orange flag. Take the boat at Tha Chang (N9). The royal palace is on the right.

By MRT

- MRT Sanam Chai Station Exit 1
- Take the bus no. 3, 9, 44, 47, 53 and 82

By Boat

This is one of the most popular ways to The Grand Palace. Take an express boat to Tha Tien (N8) along the Chao Phraya. Once you leave the pier, walk past the food stalls until you reach a large road junction. In front (slightly to the right) is The Grand Palace.

Take a right here and walk about 10 minutes until you come to Wat Pho, which will be on the other side of the road. Otherwise, get on a tuk-tuk, but they'll probably overcharge a lot for this short distance.

By Bus: Buses go straight to The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. The bus that passes through the palace and the nearest temple is Wat Phra Kaew. 1, 3, 9, 15, 25, 30, 32, 33, 43, 44, 47, 53, 59, 64, 80, 82, 91, 203, 503, 508, 512

By Private car:

- Parking: Wat Mahathat, Tha Maharaj soi Thapphen, beside City Pillar Shrine, Rajadamnern Road Car Park, Soi Wat Pho, Wat Rakang Parking Building.

By Tuk Tuk

- Unless you are used to tuk-tuk bargaining, it might cost you more than a taxi to get there. If possible, arrange a price beforehand with a little bargaining.

Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Khao San Road Bangkok Vlog - Day 11 (Video #33)

Join us as we vlog our visit to the Grand Palace (around 10am), Wat Pho (where we respectfully did not film the Reclining Buddha), wandered around the old town a bit and met some cats trying to find a late lunch, took a taxi to Khao San Road and were attempted to be sold a new suit, took our time looking around then eventually took a taxi to Nana to go to Dosa King (although unfortunately it was closed), so we visited a nearby Indian restaurant instead. What a day!

Huge apologies for the corrupted footage of the Grand Palace, I did not realise they were corrupting as I was taking them unfortunately. This was as much of the footage I could salvage, there was definitely more :(

If you are travelling please use our Airbnb and Uber codes, we don't make any money from these videos and a tiny credit would really help our future travel plans...not to mention you get a discount too!

Bangkok Old City day trip: Emerald Buddha Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun

When visiting Bangkok, one should not miss a chance to visit the old city despite its distance from the BTS and metro line.

Since we were on a tight schedule and live far away, we only have one day to visit so we decided to hit the big three: Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun!

We started off with the Grand Palace, as it closes relatively early. It is most famous for the Temple of Emerald Buddha among other temples and palaces.

Next is Wat Pho, also known as temple of reclining buddha with a 47m long reclining buddha statue and the first massage school in Thailand.

Last but not least is Wat Arun, frequently seen on Instagram. It's distinctive with the three towers and is also known as the temple of dawn.
