We loaded up the truck at zero dark thirty and hit the back roads for an adventure into La Gringa for some phenomenal shore fishing.

On our Baja trip the Heathen Eagle returned to the U.S. at San Fransiscito, while the two fisherman continued south to fish along the gulf's shores. This is their story!

SAN FELIPE, MEXICO FISHING TRIP
Here is a slide-show of my a three-day weekend to San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico to go fishing.

Crossed the border tat Tijuana on a Friday evening, drove down the Pacific Coast to Ensenada and stayed for the night. Spent the morning at the beach and then did the drive to San Felipe n the other side of the peninsula to the Sea of Cortez. Did a 4x4 Baja run for a while and stayed two nights in San Felipe.

Got up early on the last day and went on a half-day fishing trip with just the captain and I. Caught a cooler full of fish; stopped at a local restaurant and they cooked part of it up for my lunch and afterwards drove back to the border.

Crossed in the early morning without too much of a wait.

Wyoming Fly Fishing Association members head to the Baja in search of roosters on the fly. February is a tough time of year for shore fishing on the Baja peninsula but with enough time and luck it can happen.
13 Surfboards And A Sponge: The Baja Adventure
A surf trip to the Baja surf spot known as Shipwrecks. Shipwrecks (Chainsaw Point) is about a four hour drive South of the San Diego border crossing. Shipwrecks sometimes has a very long right point break off the side of the “Maria De Carmen” wreck that sits just off the shore. The waves were not very good during our visit so we did a lot of water time a few miles North of our campsite.
The campsite is quite primitive and there is no electricity or running water. The closest town is about a 30 minute drive and you can pick up ice and supplies. The cost at the site was $5/person per night and we gave the gentleman a nice tip as well.
One of my biggest concerns was bringing a lot of expensive camera gear down to Mexico. I had no worries at the campsite as there is literally no one there. The locals are very friendly and you will have no problems unless of course you are a “dick”.
A “sponge” is what surfers refer to as a boogie board.
Other affectionate names of the boogie boarder include:
shark biscuit, turtle router, dick dragger, speed bump and sponger.
