Sri Lanka, The land of Ravana, The beauty of Sri Lanka lies on its blue seas and golden beaches, its jungles and its mountain peaks. Sri Lanka is an island country located off the southern coast of India. Sri Lanka is surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Gulf of Mannar and Maldives. The geography of Sri Lanka includes coastal plains in the north and hills and mountains in the middle.

Capital of Sri Lanka:

• Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte (The administrative capital)
• Colombo (The economic capital and largest city)

History of Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka was ruled by 181 monarchs from the Anuradhapura to Kandy periods. From the 16th century, some coastal areas of the country were also controlled by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. Independence was finally granted in 1948 but the country remained a Dominion of the British Empire until 1972.

Currency of Sri Lanka:

The Sri Lankan currency is the rupee (Rs), which is divided into 100 cents; pricing in cents is rare. Rupee coins available one, two, five and 10 rupees. Notes are available 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 rupees.

People of Sri Lanka:

The people of Sri Lanka are divided into ethnic groups. The four major ethnic groups are the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burghers. Most of the people in Sri Lanka speak Sinhala and also understand Tamil, Hindi & English. Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages of Sri Lanka. Sinhala is widely spoken in the southern, western and central parts of the island, while Tamil is almost exclusively spoken in northern and eastern parts of the island.

Type of Transport in Sri Lanka:

The most efficient and convenient way to get around Sri Lanka is by hiring a private car and driver, or for shorter distances to take a taxi or tuk-tuk.You can also try local city bus to travel around city. For long distance journey like from one state to other state you can use train.

Best time to visit Sri Lanka:

Best time to visit the west and south coasts and hill country is from December to March, while the best weather on the east coast is from April to September.

October to March is best time to visit west and southern coastline. Which Includes Chilaw in the west, Galle in the south, and the capital Colombo in the south-west.

March is best time to visit the Central Hills. Which Includes: Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.
