CO Test for Mr. Heater Portable Buddy/Is It Safe To Use In The RV?

This is a follow video to the Mr. Heater Portable Buddy video that I did. In this video, we monitor the CO level over the course of an hour to see if it really is safe for indoor use as the manufacture states on the box.

Don't Buy This Heater! Mr. Heater Little Buddy, Winter Temps in a Van! S5.E17

Don't buy this heater! At least in my opinion, there are better options than the Mr. Heater Little Buddy for van life or RV life - especially when the temperatures are dropping close to zero at night like right now in Wyoming.

That's not to say that the Mr. Heater Little Buddy is a bad heater, but there are several things that I do not like about it for use in a van. Instead I recommend a couple of other options. However, the Mr. Heater Little Buddy may still be a good option for you if your needs or situation are different than mine.

Mr Heater Portable Buddy Heater

When you can’t light a campfire outside, the Portable Buddy Heater from Mr Heater will keep toasty warm on your outdoor expeditions.

In terms of safety, this unit has a tip over shut-off mechanism, and a low oxygen shutoff system for your peace of mind. To get it started, just attach a propane gas cylinder and you’ll be ready to go. Lightweight, yet sturdily built, the Mr Buddy Heater is the perfect companion for chilly days at the campsite.

In this video, our product guru Ben gives us all the details on the Mr Buddy Heater. He covers the weight and dimensions, construction and materials, and all the safety features it has.

After that he tells you where you can use the heater, then attaches it to a gas cylinder, fires it up to show you how it works, tells you how much gas it burns per hour, the radiant heat it produces, how to turn it off, and how to run this heater from a 9kg POL or smaller BSP gas bottle fitting and what hoses you'll need for that – so hit play for all the details.

High Carbon Monoxide Levels with Mr. Buddy Heater

During a cold night this winter I used Mr Heater Big Buddy with the no venting in my tent. It approached high levels of Carbon Monoxide within 20 minutes of use. I didn't wait to see if it would automatically shutoff as the carbon monoxide levels were climbing. I think it's still a decent product, but for redundancy it might be wise to throw in a carbon monoxide detector with your camping gear.

Another Mr. Heater Buddy Fail... Useless in a tent

My 2nd time using the Mr. Heater Buddy in a tent on a cold night ends in failure again. A couple weekends after the video was shot my brother in law's Big Buddy heater created too much carbon monoxide and its safety sensor stopped it from operating. The heater creates too much carbon monoxide in a tent... venting or not. I would not recommend wasting space on your next camping or overlanding trip with this heater. Its uses are limited. If you're interested in other solutions please comment below.
