Arabia Felix Vacation Travel Video Guide

The Republic Of Yemen: there is almost no other country on Earth that possesses as many secrets and ancient legends as the Arabia Felix and the Bab Al Yemen, the gateway to the Yemen, is the entrance to the historic district of Sanaa, the Yemen’s capital city that it is believed to date back to the third century A.D. Women are rarely to be seen in Yemen’s marketplaces and, when they are, they are hidden from male glances by a protective veil. Islam still plays an important role in the daily cultural life of the people, including the traditional market places that are almost exclusively a male domain. The Republic Of Yemen covers a large part of the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula and contains several fascinating historical sites. East of Sanaa on the ancient Frankincense route, is the town of Marib that was once the residence of the legendary Queen Of Saba and in the extreme north is the town of Sadah, a region known for its powerful tribes. In the centre of the Djebel Harraz is the picturesque mountain village of Manakhah. Due to its location it was once a strategic point on the ancient trading route between the sea and the highlands. The breathtaking architecture of its buildings still testifies to the former prosperity of a village that today is well known for its popular market. Al Hudaydah was once the most important Turkish harbour on the Red Sea. The city was a commercial rival of the British occupied city of Aden to the south which, during colonial times, was of great importance in securing a sea route to India. In addition to the recent modernisation of the harbour the fishing industry still plays an important role and the fertile coastal waters of the Red Sea still ensure a good catch. To the south of Al Hudaydah is the legendary old harbour of Al Mokha, the former centre of the country’s coffee trade from which the world renowned Mocha coffee derived its name. Despite their present poverty the people here are a proud race and the ancient name of the Yemen, Arabia Felix, or “Arabia The Content”, is still a thing of the present.

United Arab Emirates Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination United Arab Emirates.
Situated on the Arabian Peninsula between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, the United Arab Emirates is a fairy-tale of the One Thousand And One Nights. In just a relatively few years the region has been catapulted from the Middle Ages into the 21st century and it is now an international financial centre within an ancient desert region. It contains seven sheikdoms that are united both politically and economically. Dubai is a wonderful holiday paradise with a romantic desert and a long history in which the past unites with the present. Dubai is the second largest state in the United Arab Emirates and is situated on the north coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Fifteen kilometres from Dubai is the tiny Emirate of Sharjah where life continues according to age-old Arabian tradition. Tourism was once popular on this former pirate coast but the Saudi king subsequently prohibited the consumption of alcohol and thus the tourists stayed away. On the western side of theHajar Mountains an oasis village developed that contains more than two hundred springs and wells. The oasis was once frequently occupied by Saudi Arabia but in 1974 the International Court Of Justice in the Hague ruled against the Saudi occupation. Today, Oman and the United Arab Emirates share the nine oasis villages of the Buraimi Oasis and live together in peace. Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven Emirates and means, Father Of The Gazelle, a name derived from an ancient legend. The seventy three thousand square kilometres of the Abu Dhabi region cover eighty-six per cent of the United Arab Emirates and in the 1960’s the city had a population of five thousand that has now grown to almost a million. As the oil supplies gradually trickle away the sheiks are becoming increasingly cautious with their spending and the oil boom has now been followed by tourism in this fairy-tale holiday paradise that is full of desert romance.

Russia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Russia.
Russia is a country full of adventure, culture and vast distances. A continent, a multi-ethnic country and a vast land unites both Europe and Asia. Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe in which both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. The Kremlin is located on a forty metre high hill above the Moskva River and beyond its protective walls are numerous buildings, palaces, towers, squares and churches. The city’s history began with the construction of the Kremlin which lay at the very heart of the city and was for centuries Russia’s spiritual and political centre. A fascinating cruise travels across numerous rivers, canals and lakes within the heart of the former Tsar’s realm, past monasteries and timber built churches. In Uglič the Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed and the incidents that once occurred at this place of death gave rise to a time of confusion. St. Petersburg, known also as the Venice Of The North, contains splendid buildings such as the Winter Palace and the Eremitage. Twenty four thousand tree stumps were used for the foundation of Isaaks Cathedral that can accommodate a congregation of fourteen thousand. In Port Baikal is the modern Circum-Baikal train that takes a full day to travel around Lake Baikal and is one of the most difficult sections of the Trans-Siberian Railroad that travels from Moscow to as far as Vladivostok. Russia is huge and its nature, culture, immense contrast and dramatic history have formed the fascinating and colourful Russian soul.

Sultanate Of Oman Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Sultanate of Oman.
The Sultanate Of Oman is a fabulous land full of surprises, a splendid example of original Arabia from the Straits Of Hormuz to the southern Dhofar. Up until the 1970’s the third largest country in the Arabian Peninsula was only accessible by various caravan routes. It has an abundance of mysterious desert towns and splendid palaces. Our journey begins on the northern coast of the Gulf Of Oman. The white city of Sohar is the historic harbour of the Islamic world and the ‘Gateway To China’. Sinbad the Sailor is said to have lived there in the 8th century and after he spent his father’s inheritance it is believed that he travelled to Baghdad to seek his fortune there. The city is still guarded by the white Sohar Fort, a mighty four storey building that dates back to the 14th century. The Nakhl Fortress is located on a rock at the foot of the mountain of the same name, Jebel Nakhl. Both walls and rock form a complete architectural whole. Nakhl is the home of the Ya´Aruba Tribe that came into power in 1624 and ruled over Oman for a hundred and twenty years. Until the 12th century Nizwa was the capital of the Desert State of Oman. Even today this oasis city and trading metropolis has lost none of its former importance and the former residential complex of the massive fortress is open to the public. The fortress once fulfilled an important role in protecting the country’s interior and now its lavish and well-restored rooms radiate tranquillity. The mighty Jabrin Fort is one of the most beautiful castles of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, formerly the famous ‘Land Of Incense’. Its massive, towering and eye-catching pewter walls date back to the 17th century. Until the middle of the twentieth century Abri had the reputation of being a centre for highwaymen and robbers, favoured for its good strategic location. The booty that came from plundered caravans and the settlements of various tribes was sold at auction in the souk: adventure straight from the pages of an Arabian fairy-tale! The Sultanate Of Oman is a treasure trove of rarities. Its twelve thousand year old history is visible throughout the entire country and the beauty of the mysterious Arabian Peninsula is a truly captivating experience.

The Ultimate Traveller in Yemen

To see more pictures about Yemen, please visit

Since ancient times Yemen has enchanted travelers, merchants, philosophers and kings with its secrets and its wealth. At the crossroads of spice and incense routes, Yemen is one of the oldest continuously inhabited regions in the world that has not yet been touched by the winds of modernity. This fascinating country stretching from the shores of the Red Sea to beyond the shores of the Arabian Sea is extraordinarily rich in historical sites.

The ancient sites are refreshingly free of commercial ventures with an atmosphere of uncluttered authenticity no longer present at better-trodden historical locations. One of the most striking features of Yemen is its astonishing architecture. The country is covered in ancient skyscrapers made from stone and mud - where people live on top of their animals.

Every visitor is fascinated with the variety and contrasts in landscape, architecture and people: From gigantic mountains with fortress-like villages on the top of the peaks to picturesque urban settlements with houses of clay, bricks and stone; from deserts to fertile valleys; from dreamlike beaches to colorful markets filled with the sounds, fragrances and faces from 1001 Nights, you will meet the old wisdom and the art of the Land of the Queen of Sheba everywhere.

A trip to Yemen is considered an experience of a way of life long since lost to the modern world, a dream destination of unusual record, a destination of a different age.

Mukuba Express Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Mukuba Express in Zambia.
Selous is Africa’s oldest and largest game reserve and is the habitat of many rare animals. It also contains more than four hundred bird species and some fascinating flora. There is no precise timetable for the train that will arrive from Zambia, it could arrive at virtually any moment and the train stops at the Selous Game Reserve twice a week. Most of the railroad is made up of a single track and only a few stations have sidings that permit the railroads’ freight trains to make way for the Mukuba Express. Despite the railroad and its safari travellers, Selous has retained its original and unspoiled splendour right up to the present day. Over the years many of the old train stations have been abandoned and now look like sad relics of a bygone age. The historic origins of this extraordinary railroad date back to German colonial times at the beginning of the twentieth century. What was once known as The Middle Land Railroad was one of the most technically challenging and expensive projects of East Africa’s German colonists. Today the one thousand two hundred and fifty four kilometre railroad is an important reminder of those bygone days. In the late afternoon the train reaches its final destination of Dar-Es-Salaam and this unforgettable and captivating train journey comes to an end.

4 Unesco Weltkulturerbe Cultural Heritage
Fotografie and Multivision by Edgar Ueberschlag 2011

Fresh Eyes on Arabia Felix

Yemen in 1996

This was a trip through Yemen I would not recommend at this moment.
At the time it was quite safe to travel in a group through the country.
Enjoy the magnificent architecture of Sanaa. In Saada is a mud wall for their defence. Shihara was a pirates post, from which robbers operated.
