I have been living internationally for the last 2,500 days. Working, living and studying abroad has its positives and negatives, it is not always easy.
Even though life as an expat can be difficult at times, it can also help you become a better person and find out who you really are.
Spending life in Nepal, over the last six years has given me the opportunity to experience things, and learn things about myself that I would have never been able to while living in the United States.

Tribhuvan International Airport is an international airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, located in the Kathmandu Valley about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the city center of Kathmandu. The airport has served as an airfield since 1949, and was inaugurated in 1955 by King Mahendra of Nepal. It received its current name in 1964. Originally a grass runway, it was re-laid in concrete in 1957 and has been extended several times. The first jet aircraft landed at Tribhuvan in 1967 and regular jet operations commenced in 1972.

Nepal's Himalayan Express ????????
■ NEPAL, SYAPRU BESI: The Himalayas, home of Mount Everest, also have many lesser known peaks and mountain plateaus that are far more accessible to the layman trekker. One of these is the Kyankin Ri mountain top, which is accessible by foot if you're willing to walk for the 3 days it takes to hike up there.
Having never done anything other than single day mountain hikes, I felt up for the challenge. But first I needed to get up to the Langtang National Park where the gorge you'll walk through to get to the Langtang mountain range begins.
That meant a grueling 8 hour bus journey on what is surely the worst road I've ever driven on. But when I rocked up at Kathmandu's central bus station at 5AM to board the Himalayan Express Bus I had no idea about the adventure that lay ahead...

I flew on Nepal Airlines A330 from Dubai to Kathmandu as the beginning of my flying adventure in the Himalayas.
I met Captain Vijay Lama onboard, he is a local celebrity and YouTuber in Nepal. The flight time to Kathmandu was 4 hours across the Indian subcontinent. Shortly after takeoff, a beautiful sunrise appeared as we fly to the East. Nepal Airlines crew showed me their uniform and food offering on the flight.
The weather was good enroute. Before landing, many tall mountains appeared on the horizon. 8 of the world’s top 10 highest peaks are in Nepal. We can see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Fishtail, Manaslu, and many tall mountain peaks. The landing into Kathmandu is very exciting with mountains and high terrain around. Watch the final approach from the cockpit.
Next week, I will share my experience flying to Mount Everest by helicopter. This is a once-a-lifetime experience.

■ NEPAL, KATHMANDU: After five flights through 3 continents and two nights spent living on airplanes and trains without access to a hotel room I had finally arrived in the landlocked country of Nepal. I know I said I was going to do a major Latin America tour, and I will, but I need to do some reading and studying first. So I decided to pay a visit to a country that has picked my curiosity for some time now due to the mountainous terrain: Nepal.
I arrived without a visa as this can be picked up before you pass through immigration. After leaving the airplane and keeping a brisk pace through arrival hall I was one of the first to reach the electronic application machine. But not the first. There were a couple of guys in front of me. One of them turned around and suggested I could use any machine and said that the queue adjacent may move faster as it was manned.
So switched line. The new queue did indeed move faster so within a minute I was parallel with the guy who'd suggested the switch. And that's when I heard: Harald?
Turns out this was subscriber who'd seen quite a few of my videos who had come to Nepal due to some tragic recent circumstances but with some very important work to do. In fact, his mission makes him a true American hero.

This experience in Nepal forever changed us! We were lucky to have our friend Nyima help us arrange an overnight stay at Namo Buddha Monastery where we got to spend time with the monks there. We observed their peaceful way of life, engaged in meaningful conversations, and even joined them for meals and prayer sessions. It was an incredible experience to be surrounded by beautiful nature while immersing ourselves in the spirituality and culture of Buddhism.
