Amer Fort (also called Amber Fort or Amber Palace) is a fort situated in Amer, Rajasthan, India. Amer is a town which is situated at about 11 km from Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. Amer town and the Amber Fort were actually built by Raja Man Singh and later additions were done by Sawai Jai Singh. Located in the high ranges of Aravalli, it is the most popular tourist attraction in Jaipur. Amer Fort is well known for its artistic style elements which includes large ramparts and series of gates as well as cobbled paths, the fort faces Maota Lake, which is known to be the main source of water for the Amer Palace.
Amer Palace is known to be great example of Rajput architecture. Some of the buildings of this fort and work have influence of Mughal architecture. Constructed of red sandstone as well marble, the attractiv as well as the opulent palace is made of four floors, each with a courtyard. It consists of the Diwan-e-Aam, or Hall of Public Audience, the Diwan-e-Khas, or Hall of Private Audience, the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), or Jai Mandir, and the Sukh Niwas where a cool climate is artificially created with the help of winds which blow over a water cascade within this beautiful palace. Hence, the Amer Fort is also famously known as the Amer Palace. The palace was known to be the residence of the Rajput Maharajas as well as their families. At the entrance of the palace near the fort's Ganesh Pol, a temple is made which is dedicated to Shila Devi, a Goddess of the Chaitanya cult, which was given to Raja Man Singh after he defeated the Raja of Jessore, Bengal in the year 1604. (Jessore is now in Bangladesh). Raja Man Singh had 12 queens and for this reason he made 12 apartments, one for each of his Queen. Each apartment had a staircase connected to the King’s room but the Queens were not allowed to go upstairs. Raja Jai Singh had only one queen and for that reason he built only one room which was equal to three old queen’s rooms.
Amber palace, along with Jaigarh Fort, is situated immediately above on the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the same Aravalli range of hills. Amer palace and Jaigarh Fort are considered one complex as both of these are connected by a 1.5 km long tunnel. This passage was made as an escape route in times of war for enabling the royal family members and others in the Amer Fort to escape to the more safer Jaigarh Fort. Amer Palace attracts 5000 visitors a day as reported by the Superintendent of the Department of Archaeology and Museums with 1.4 million visitors during the year 2007. In 2013, during the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Amer Fort, along with 5 other forts of Rajasthan, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the group which was called Hill Forts of Rajasthan.
In the medieval period Amer was known as Dhundar (meaning of which attributed to a sacrificial mount in the western frontiers) and ruled by the Kachwaha Rajputs from the 11th century onwards – between 1037 and 1727 AD, till the capital was moved from Amer to Jaipur in 1727. The history of Amer is linked to these rulers as they actually founded their empire at the town of Amer.

Amer Fort, Jaipur Overview
In the Pink City of Jaipur, cradled on the top of the Aravali Hill lies the Amer Fort, one of the most magnificent palaces in India. Also commonly known as the Amber Fort, this majestic building with its maze-like passages and serpentine staircases is an architectural masterpiece and with significant importance in Indian history. Only 11 kilometers away from the capital city of Jaipur, Amer Fort is clad in pink and yellow sandstone and is a part of an extensive complex. Built by one of the most trusted generals of Akbar, Maharaja Man Singh I in the year 1592, Amer Fort served as the main residence of the Rajput Rulers.
The Amer Fort through its large ramparts, several gateways, and paved paths overlooks the Maotha Lake in the town of Amer, which used to serve as the capital of the erstwhile Jaipur princely state. The fort is big enough that it will take you at least two to three hours to explore it in detail, and you can also choose to avail of the audio guides to lead you through this fascinating building while explaining the history of the place. Getting an elephant ride up the stairs to the Amber Fort is also a popular tourist activity. The fort sees over five thousand visitors daily and rightfully, the Amer Fort was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage Site list as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan along with five other forts.

Amber Fort is about 20 minutes northeast of Jaipur's city center.
Getting There:
If you're on a strict budget, take one of the frequent buses that depart from near the Hawa Mahal in the Old City. They're crowded but will only cost you 15 rupees (or 25 rupees if you want to air-condition). Alternatively, it's possible to take an auto-rickshaw for about 500 rupees for the return trip. Expect to pay 850 rupees or more for a taxi.
How to Visit:
Amber Fort is open daily from 8 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. To reach the entrance at the top, you can either walk uphill, ride on elephant back, go by jeep, golf-cart or take your vehicle. However, do note that it gets very busy during the tourist season and traffic jams are common.
Many people choose to remain at the fort for the evening sound and light show, night viewing, and dinner. The fort reopens, evocatively illuminated, from 6:30 until 9:15 p.m. Toward the bottom of the fort, near Maota Lake, a popular sound and light show showcases the history of Amber Fort using many special effects. There are two shows per night, in English and Hindi. The starting times vary according to the time of year as follows:
October to February (tourist season): English 6:30 p.m. and Hindi 7:30 p.m. March to April (summer): English 7 p.m. and Hindi 8 p.m. May to September (monsoon): English 7:30 p.m. and Hindi 8:30 p.m.

Amer Fort Jaipur is located on top of the Aravalli Hill. Amber Fort is one of the most spectacular forts in India and a popular tourist attraction in Jaipur. Amer is a city located at a distance of 11 km from the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Watch full video to know about Amer Fort History.
Built by Maharaja Man Singh in 1592, Amer Fort was the main residence of the Rajput rulers. Amer Fort is also called Amber Fort. The fort is so big that it will take you at least two to three hours to see it in detail. The fort can be climbed through its long staircase. Or you can take an elephant ride till Amer Fort.
The Amer Fort has four sections, each with a beautifully decorated entrance and courtyard. The main entrance to the fort is called 'Suraj Pol' or 'Sun Gate' which leads to the first courtyard. This gateway got its name because it faces the rising sun. The name of the first courtyard is 'Jaleb Chowk'. It was the place where armies held victory parades on their return from war.
The staircase from Jaleb Chowk leads to the main palace grounds. Amer Fort is influenced by Hindu and Rajputana style of architecture. In the second courtyard is the Diwan-i-Aam. It is a huge hall open from three sides. The king used to hold meetings here to hear the petitions of the public.
The third courtyard is entered through the Ganesh Pol or the Ganesh Gate. There are two buildings in the courtyard opposite to each other. The building to the left of the entrance is called Jai Mandir. Its interior is decorated with stained-glass that glowed in candlelight. Due to the glass works, this building is also known as Sheesh Mahal. Sheesh Mahal was built by Raja Man Singh around the 16th century. Opposite Sheesh Mahal is Sukh Niwas or Sukh Mahal. Its walls are decorated with marble works. The garden situated between Jai Mandir and Sukh Niwas has been designed on the lines of Mughal Garden.
In the fourth courtyard lived the royal ladies. There are many rooms in this courtyard where the queens lived and with whom the kings used to meet.
There is a street full of shops in the fort which is known as Meena Bazaar. These shops sell art, textiles, jewelery and many other items. This is where the famous Jodha Akbar movie was shot. Amer Fort is also popular for its light and sound show which is held at night.
Many people are unaware that there is a stepwell right next to the huge fort, which was built in the 16th century. The Panna Meena ka Kund was built for the people of Amer, which was later used by the surrounding temples. Panna Meena ka Kund is a square stepwell with steps on all four sides and a room on the northern wall. Panna Meena ka Kund is a small stepwell in Rajasthan but it’s worth visiting.

This is my first vlog post Corona lockdown in which you are going to see a beautiful fort of my pink city, my home town Jaipur. This fort is known as Amer Fort or Amer Palace or Amber Palace.
It was made by kings of Kachchhawa dynasty and considered among best forts of Rajasthan.
My two friends, Happy and Amit accompanied me in this visit. It was a lovely day as weather was very pleasant, full of clouds but no rain. That what we wished for.

Amer is located at a distance of 11 km from Jaipur city. The place was the settlement of the Meenas, a tribal community of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh since 967 CE. Later Raja Man Singh I became the ruler of Amer and started rebuilding the fort. Raja Man Singh was one of the Navratnas in the Mughal emperor Akbar’s court. The work was carried on by his descendants and completed by Sawai Jai Singh, who later built the Jaipur city. The Amer Fort has been an opulent residence for the Rajput Maharajas and their families for long. The fort is known for its exquisite Hindu style elements but also has an amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim styles. In 2013 this fort came under UNESCO world heritage site.
Amer Fort is divided into four parts, each with its own separate entrance and decorated courtyard. The main gate of this fort is called 'Suraj Pol' or Sun Gate which leads to the main courtyard. If one comes by walk or trough elephant ride will enter from this gate. Elephant ride cost is 1100 rs per person. With the help of stairs in this fort, you reach to an impressive courtyard called 'Jaleb Chowk' in the palace complex. These stairs lead to Shila Devi Temple. There is another gate which is known as Chandpole gate, if one comes by bike or four wheeler will enter through this gate.

Amer Fort (Hindi: अमेर किला) is a fort located in Amer, Rajasthan, India. Amer is a town with an area of 4 square kilometres (1.5 sq mi) located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Located high on a hill, it is the principal tourist attraction in Jaipur. The town of Amer was originally built by Meenas, and later it was ruled by Raja Man Singh I (December 21, 1550 – July 6, 1614). Amer Fort is known for its artistic Hindu style elements. With its large ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks Maota Lake, which is the main source of water for the Amer Palace

One of the top tourist attractions of Jaipur is located at a distance about 11 km from the main city. As you arrive at the Amer Fort, you will enter through the Suraj Pol , unless you arrive by car, then you enter via the Chand Pol. Both these gates open into the Jaleb Chowk, which is the main courtyard . There are a lot of attractions for one to see at the Amer Fort, including the diwan-e-aam, such mandir, and the Sheesh Mahal. The Amer Fort is a perfect example of Rajasthani architecture which is a must-visit.

The settlement at Amer was founded by Raja Alan Singh who was a ruler from the Chanda clan of Meenas in 967 CE unreliable source The Amer Fort as it stands now was erected over the remnants of this earlier structure during the reign of Raja Man Singh the Kachwaha King of Amer The structure was fully expanded by his descendant Jai Singh I Even later Amer Fort underwent improvements and additions by successive rulers over the next 150 years until the Kachwahas shifted their capital to Jaipur during the time of Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727

The first Rajput structure was started by Raja Kakil Dev when Amber became his capital in 1036 on the site of present day Jaigarh Fort of Rajasthan Much of Amber current buildings were started or expanded during the reign of Raja Man Singh I in the 1600s Among the chief building is the Diwan-i-Khas in Amber Palace of Rajasthan and the elaborately painted Ganesh Poll built by the Mirza Raja Jai Singh I
The current Amer Palace was created in the late 16th century as a larger palace to the already existing home of the rulers The older palace known as Kadimi Mahal Persian for ancient is known to be the oldest surviving palace in India This ancient palace sits in the valley behind the Amer Palace
Amer was known in the medieval period as Dhundar meaning attributed to a sacrificial mount in the western frontiers and ruled by the Kachwahas from the 11th century onwards between 1037 and 1727 AD till the capital was moved from Amer to Jaipur The history of Amer is indelibly linked to these rulers as they founded their empire at Amer
Many of the ancient structures of the medieval period of the Mairs have been either destroyed or replaced However the 16thcentury impressive edifice of the Amer Fort and the palace complex within it built by the Rajput Maharajas are very well preserved

Amber Fort is located Amer is placed at a distance of 11 km from Jaipur city. Amber was the capital of the Kachhawaha till Jaipur was made the official capital in 1727. Amber is generally pronounced as Amer. It is situated about 10 km away from Jaipur on Jaipur-New Delhi road. It was governed by Kachawaha rulers and also was the capital of old Dhundar state of Jaipur.
Amer fort opens for tourist at 8:30 AM in the morning and closes at 6:00 PM in the evening.
Now cycling tours to Amer Fort are facilitated by many companies in Jaipur.
