Day in the Life of an Amazon Jungle Tribe!

???? Tijuana Migrant Camps ►
✈️ How I Started Traveling ►
???? My New Food Channel ► @GarethEats

This is a day in the life of the indigenous Sápara tribe who live within the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Today, their population totals less than 700 people, across 22 communities, and they are constantly battling to keep their culture, traditions and territory in-tact in an ever pressing capitalist world.

The Sápara, also known as Zápara or Záparo, once occupied some 12,000 mi² between the Napo River and the Pastaza in the Amazon rainforest along the border of Ecuador and Peru.

Early in the 20th century, there were some 200,000 Zapara. From the year 2009 on the Ecuadorian Zápara call themselves Sápara. The official name is Nación Sápara del Ecuador (NASE).

The Sápara people have a distinct language, known as Sápara, which is considered critically endangered with only a few fluent speakers remaining. They have a unique cosmology that revolves around their close relationship with the natural world, viewing themselves as an integral part of the forest ecosystem.

They possess extensive knowledge of the medicinal properties of plants and have a profound understanding of the intricate balance of the rainforest.

However, the Sápara people face numerous challenges, including encroachment on their lands by extractive industries, deforestation, and the loss of their cultural heritage. Despite these pressures, the Sápara people continue to fight for their rights, seeking recognition and protection of their territory, language, and way of life. Efforts are being made to preserve their culture and support their sustainable practices, ensuring the survival and well-being of the Sápara people and their unique contributions to the world.

Amazon Rainforest | The World in 4K | Travel + Leisure

A massive wildfire is currently ravaging the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. According to experts, the fire is not only one of the worst on record for the region, but it could also cause a ripple effect with climate change for years to come.

The Amazon produces about 20 percent of the oxygen in Earth's atmosphere. The rainforest is also home to some three million species of plants and animals, along with one million indigenous people.

Amazon Rainforest in Brazil - Jungle Cruise on the Amazon River

Some impressions from our journey on the Amazon River in Brazil. Besides hundreds of photos, I also made this video, which I would like to share with you. Monkeys, sloths, parrots, tucans and pink dolphins. I got to meet all these wonderful animals in the Amazon rainforest. It felt a bit like Disney's Jungle book. But my personal highlight was the visit to an indigenous tribe in the middle of the rainforest. I am very happy about the unique footage I was able to capture on this trip. Many thanks to my client Lernidee Erlebnisreisen for making this trip possible. Here you can find more informations about the journey we did:

Have you ever visited the rainforest? What impressed you the most?

We spent TWO DAYS touring the AMAZON RAINFOREST for £60! Heres How We Did It!

We spent TWO DAYS touring the AMAZON RAINFOREST for £60! Heres How We Did It!

In this second part of our Amazon series (if you missed the first you can see it here: ) we wake up early to be greeted by Amazon river Dolphins which is probably one of the best ways we’ve ever started a day! After going on a peaceful bird watching tour we explored a nearby Amazon village in Colombia before heading over by boat to cross into Peru and explore the Amazon jungle on foot on the Peruvian side.

As beautiful as it is being out on the Amazon river fishing for piranha and swimming in the same waters as the river dolphins we were glad that on our second day we explored deeper into the jungle on foot, we saw completely different wildlife and most importantly the animal we really wanted to find, sloths! There were lots hiding up in the trees and our guide was able to find them for us so we didn’t just walk by without realizing.

We finished our last day in the Amazon back in Puerto Nariño where we climbed a tower in time to catch our final sunset in the Amazon, which was a beautiful way to end our time before an incredible late night storm that was absolutely biblical to see from the safety of our accommodation balcony.

We still can’t believe we managed to do all this on such a low budget, it wasn’t all smooth sailing but totally worth the effort to see the incredible wildlife and get to experience life out in the Amazon rainforest for a couple of nights.

Amazon Rainforest - World's Largest Tropical Rain forest and Wildlife jungle

Travel Destination Amazon rainforest.

broadleaf tropical rainforest in the Amazon biome that covers most of the Amazon basin of South America.
The Amazon region includes territory belonging to nine nations and 3,344 formally acknowledged indigenous territories.
More than 30 million people of 350 different ethnic groups live in the Amazon.

The Amazon rainforest, covering much of northwestern Brazil and extending into Colombia, Peru and other South American countries, is the world’s largest tropical rainforest, famed for its biodiversity. It’s crisscrossed by thousands of rivers, including the powerful Amazon. River towns, with 19th-century architecture from rubber-boom days, include Brazil’s Manaus and Belém and Peru’s Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado.

The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests, and comprises the largest and most biodiverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world, with an estimated 390 billion individual trees divided into 16,000 species.

The rainforest contains several species that can pose a hazard. Among the largest predatory creatures are the black caiman, jaguar, cougar, and anaconda. In the river, electric eels can produce an electric shock that can stun or kill, while piranha are known to bite and injure humans.Various species of poison dart frogs secrete lipophilic alkaloid toxins through their flesh. There are also numerous parasites and disease vectors. Vampire bats dwell in the rainforest and can spread the rabies virus.Malaria, yellow fever and dengue fever can also be contracted in the Amazon region.
