This is one of the most STUNNING places in Bulgaria! If you are looking for off the beaten path sites in Bulgaria, where the locals go to vacation, look no further than the incredibly Rhodope Mountains in the south central part of Bulgaria. I went on an amazing 5 day road trip where I saw small villages like Gela and Devin, the ominous Devil's Throat Cave, went off-roading in a Jeep to Eagle's Eye Look Out and tried some amazing traditional Rhodopean food. Two Days Visit of Rhodope Mountain Bulgaria | HD

Having visited the Alps multiple times in different countries, I felt it was time for me to show Rob the beauty of the Bulgarian mountains.
Our story today if about a short mountain getaway in the Rhodope mountains of Bulgaria.

Bulgaria is a country of lots of travel opportunities. There are so many places to visit:
• The seaside
• Various historical sights
• Different cultural festivals
• Modern day festivals
• Medieval villages

It is very difficult to pinpoint the best places to visit in Bulgaria, simple because they are so many.

Once of the reasons we chose Rhodope mountains is that there is so much to see and there is a lot to do even for a two day short visit.
The best way to experience Bulgaria, is to travel by car (in our opinion, based on experience). The rounds are picturesque, and there are plenty of interesting places to stop and rest on they way. Some of our favourite rest stops were:
• Kostenets Waterfall (on the way from Sofia to Velingrad)
• Shiroka Polyana dam – just pick a random locally owned café on the coast of the dam (from Velingrad to Yagodinska cave)
• Dospat Reservoir / Dospat dam – beautiful views over the water of the dam

During this short getaway, we explored three famous tourist attractions in Bulgaria:
• The Yagodinska cave - in Rhodope mountains
• The Devil’s throat cave - in Rhodope mountains
• Orlovo Oko / Eagle’s Eye - in Rhodope mountains

What made our time as tourist in Bulgaria memorable were also the activities organized by locals to amuse tourists and the locally owned cafes and restaurants.

There are a lot of places to visit in Bulgaria and the once we show in our story a definitely worth making into your tourist list for travel in Bulgaria.

If we can give one tip, that would be to carry cash, as a lot of the attractions cannot be paid by card, and trust us, you do not want to miss on amazing experiences because there are no ATM’s in the Bulgarian mountains ????

Is it wise to take a detour in a Bulgarian Village? Something you should really think about!

This video was shot earlier this year when we travelled to the south west of Bulgaria. We passed through the Gorge that separates the Pirin Mountains from the western part of the Rhodope mountains. Here there are many wonderful and interesting Bulgarian Villages. Filled with many Interesting things, the Bulgarians here are very nice and have a lot of stories to tell.

I definitely recommend if you have the time to pass through some of these Bulgarian villages, you never know what you might find. This goes for anywhere in Bulgaria.

I have another video of a couple of very Beautiful Bulgarian villages in this area.

As this was only my second visit to this part of Bulgaria I don't have a lot of experience here, though I sure as this channel develops I will be making more trips to this part of Bulgaria.

Lilkovo In Bulgaria is a mountain village in southern Bulgaria. It is one of the highest settlements in Bulgaria. It is also one of the largest villages by land area in the Rhodope Mountains. Lilkovo is a very old settlement, entirely Christian. During Turkish slavery, it had a mixed population - Christians and Muslims and was called Demirjiköy /iron village/. It was freed from Ottoman rule on January 31, 1878. In the years after the Liberation, the Bulgarian-Mohammedans gradually emigrated. Its rounded ridges, peaks, and slopes are covered with extensive coniferous forests, in the lower part with beech, dotted with sunny meadows, fragrant with flowers and aromatic herbs and countless cold clear springs
In the center of Lilkovo is the large and beautiful stone church St. Archangel Michael. It was built by Hadji Georgi from Kosovo, the chief carpenter of Rupchos, and was opened in 1859.

I never thought that I would be taking a solo roadtrip in BULGARIA! If you're considering driving here, this video will give you some helpful tips of what to expect. I decided to rent a car for a whole week and after doing 3 days of the central northern part of Bulgaria, I went south to the Rhodope Mountains. After following an incredible winding road through the mountains we arrived at one of the most unique natural formations in Bulgaria. A true spectacle and the perfect picnic and walking spot.

Would you visit the highest village in Bulgaria ???????? ?

I never expected to visit the highest village in Bulgaria and actually even the highest in the whole Balkan peninsula but when I told my friend I wanted to explore some villages she recommended this to me. Without any idea what to expect I started driving towards an altitude of 1555 meters in the Rhodopes mountains. Did I regret visiting Ortsevo? Watch the video and you'll find out ;)
