Alofi Waterfront - Niue Island - South Pacific - Drone Video
Alofi is the capital of Niue.
The island nation of Niue sits by itself in the South Pacific Ocean about 1,500 miles from New Zealand. It consists of a large coral atoll inhabited by about 1,500 souls, who hold dual citizenship with New Zealand, and speak both English and Nuiean. Nearly half of them live in the capital, Alofi. Activities for visitors are focused around the natural environment, swimming and snorkeling in the clear seas, exploring the many caves that honeycomb the limestone island, whale watching and fishing, and golf on the resort courses.

Noted for its historical importance as a reserved bathing place for Niue's traditional kings, Matapa Chasm is reached by a track which branches off from the main road at the foot of Hikutavake Hill and beside the start of the trek to Talava Arches. Matapa Chasm provides a sheltered snorkelling, swimming place for all.

Enter the sea track on the North East corner of the Liku village green which is behind the church. About 500 metres brings you to a parking area from which you walk down through a cave on ancient stairs that lead down to the reef. The driveway looks a bit scary but it's ok. Just drive slow.

Talava Arches - Niue Island - South Pacific - Drone Video
Three large sea arches known as Talava Arches are located very close together on this South Pacific island nation of Niue, which is located about 1500 miles NE of New Zealand.
The Talava Arches are among the most spectacular landmarks, and the maze of caves, rock pools and coral formations are worth the half-hour rugged and sometimes slippery hike (take sturdy footwear) to the arches.

Our Family Going On Our Village, Alofi North, Annual Takai! 7 Jan 2022

The Takai is an annual celebration event here on Niue Island. It always takes place on the week of the 2nd Saturday of January each year.
This would have to be the only celebration event that has so much hype and involves almost everyone on the entire Island.
This is where Village Pride and sometimes rivalry comes into play!
Each village will get to get themselves ready with their rides, cars, bikes etc, and then travel together around the whole Island. You get to decorate or pimp your ride in any way possible!
You would want to be the brightest or the loudest or the coolest! The sky is the limit.
4 villages went out today on Friday. Ours, Alofi North, Lakepa, Makefu and Avatele.
The rest will go tomorrow on Saturday!

Marooned by a hurricane on Niue Island 1963.

In 1963 my family visited Niue Island from our then home in Samoa(Western). We were due to return to Samoa on the Union Steam Ship Company ship Matua. The hurricane forced her to bypass us on Niue and continue on her way. We were subsequently picked up by the Union Steam Ship Company ship Tofua around a week or so later. The swells were still evident as we boarded Tofua and kids had to be thrown to the crew in the lifeboats and once again thrown to other crew at the bottom of lowered gangway. Imagine that happening today!

Shore Landing On Niue

On the World ARC 2019 trip we hit a lot of different ports but on Niue taking your dingy in for a shore excursion was unique in that it involved hoisting it out of the water. That's because Niue is circled by 60 foot high coral limestone cliffs and the only place to really come a shore is at the freighter dock.

Getting Fish To Feed My Family & Teaching My Girls How!

If only we got the footage that Hena was taking underwater when we were spearfishing. Something was wrong with our GoPro Hero8. It died and somehow erased the videos on the SD card. So gutted!
