Agriculture : Rice Cultivation in India

Did you know that rice is actually a grass and we eat its seed?

Rice is the main food crop in most parts of the world. It forms the staple food for many people in India too.

The most common method of growing rice is by transplantation. This method is practised in areas where the soil is very fertile and there is plenty of rainfall.

This is the reason why rice is mainly grown in regions which receive heavy rainfall and have fertile soil.

To make sure sufficient water is available to rice plant, most farmers maintain flooded conditions in their fields. This is achieved through various irrigation methods used to supply water to the rice cultivation fields. Flooded fields are maintained in regions which do not receive plenty of rainfall.

Transplanting of rice is a very difficult process as the work is done by hands. The seeds are sown and seedlings are prepared. These seedlings are then uprooted after about 4-5 weeks and planted in a flooded field.

Rice can be grown on flat lands and the slopes of mountains or hills. In hilly areas, rice is cultivated through terrace farming. In this type of farming, the slopes of a hill are cut into steps and then rice is grown on them. These steps hold the water which is required for the growth of crops.

After the rice plants are fully grown, they are harvested with the help of machines. The crops are cut and the seeds are separated with the help of machines.

In India, some farmers still use simple hand tools like sickles and knives to cut the crop. This requires a lot of time and labour.

Now you know transplanting is an important process in rice cultivation.

Can you find out about the different methods involved in the cultivation of other food crops?

Growing rice in Indonesia

Rice is central to the Indonesian diet. In many areas, rice terraces climb steep hillsides to create a beautiful landscape.

FISH & CHIPS Mountain!! ???? ???? Best Australian SEAFOOD on the Great Ocean Road!!

???????? Ultimate Australian Food Tour:
???? Ghost Chili:

GREAT OCEAN ROAD, AUSTRALIA - Today we’re going on a tour of the iconic Great Ocean Road, and we’ll be eating some of the best Australian seafood along the way.

The Great Ocean Road is a historical highway that connects remote coastal towns along the southern coast of Australia. It was initially started as a project to create jobs for soldiers returning from WW1. The construction began in 1919 and was mostly completed when it was handed over to the government in 1936. When I visited Australia, I was excited to drive this iconic road for the majestic natural beauty - the rugged sea cliffs, the windswept coast - and probably most of all - to discover some of the best local seafood restaurants along the way.

Friends in the video:

Here are all the places we visited on this ultimate Australian food tour:

1. Fishos Torquay - Total Price - 111 AUD (74.45 USD) - We started off in the surf town of Torquay to eat our first meal at Fishos Torquay!

2. Fish by Moonlight - Total price - 104.54 AUD (70.11 USD) - This small strip-mall restaurant proved to be one of the best meals I had in Australia - one of the best ever fish and chips!

3. Cafe Koala - Total price - 26.54 AUD (17.80 USD)

4. Apollo Bay Fishermen's Co-Op - Total price - 317.83 AUD (213.20 USD) - One of the famous seafood restaurants along the Great Ocean Road and must stop when you’re in Apollo Bay for seafood and especially rock lobsters.

5. Twelve Apostles -
One of our main sightseeing destinations was the magnificent Twelve Apostles.

6. Craypot Bistro - Total price - 152.76 AUD (102.46 USD) - We arrived in Port Campbell and had a quick Australian pub dinner.

7. Loch Ard Gorge
Finally the next morning we quickly stopped off at Loch Ard Gorge to complete our food tour on Australia’s Great Ocean Road.

First time in AUSTRALIA!! ???????? Kangaroo + Huge BOGAN BURGER!! | What is Australian Food??

???????? Ultimate Australian Food Tour in Melbourne!
???? T-shirts:
???? Ghost Chili:

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - Welcome to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia! Today we’re going to answer the question - what is Australian Food? This is my first trip to Australia, so I’m excited to explore and to eat my way through Melbourne.

Thank you to all my friends in the video:
Huge thank you to Chef Nick and Tess from HER Melbourne ( for hosting me in Melbourne and for taking me around.
Chef Nick:
Tess:

Also a huge thank you to Sofia Levin ( for showing us some of the best food in Melbourne!

Here’s the full Australian food tour:

1: South Melbourne Market -
We’re starting out at South Melbourne Market to try some of the local foods available. Starting with jam donuts, meat pies, seafood, a quick oyster shot, and finally the legendary dim sim!

2. Industry Beans -
Next up on this Australian food tour we’re having coffee - and in Melbourne they take coffee culture seriously.

3. Terror Twilight -
Just like coffee culture, Australian brunch culture is very strong, and they have influenced the world with brunch, and of course - avocado toast.

4: Big Esso (Mabu Mabu) -
I wouldn’t want to make a video about what Australian food is without original indigenous Australian food. Big Esso is one of the few true Australian restaurants where Chef Nornie Bero from the Torres Straits serves modern Australian dishes using only local ingredients. Emu, saltbush, and green ants!

5: The Napier Hotel:
Another part of Australian food culture is the Australian pub. Along with a classic Aussie meat pie, chicken parma (or kangaroo parma), don’t miss the giant Bogan Burger.

6: Gerald's Bar -
Next up on this food tour we’re going to a local neighborhood wine bar, a favorite in Melbourne.

7: Supper Inn -
Lastly, one of the biggest parts of Australia is the diversity and people from around the world who have migrated to Australia, including many Chinese. Melbourne is home to a substantial Chinatown and we’re eating at one of the absolutely classics.

Although there’s so much more to learn, this was an introduction to learning what Australian food is!

First Time in Bangladesh!! ???????? VOLCANO MUSTARD FISH FRY + Street Food in Dhaka!!

???????? Day 1 Bangladeshi Food! With @PetukCouple
???? Best Indian Food in Bangkok:
???? SUBSCRIBE: Don’t miss new food videos!

DHAKA, BANGLADESH - Welcome to Dhaka, one of the most exciting and busy cities in the world! Today is Day 1 in Bangladesh, hanging out with Rasif and Ipsha ( @PetukCouple ). We’re first eating a huge Bangla home cooked meal at home before trying some local neighborhood street food. And ending today with a massive hilsa (ilish) fish fry in mustard oil - one of the national foods of Bangladesh!

Literally right off the airplane we headed over to Rasif and Ipsha’s home where they cooked a huge meal of over 18 different Bengali foods. Everything from beef curry to eggplant with egg, moringha drumsticks, fish curry and duck curry. The abundance and variety was outstanding and it was my first ever Bengali meal in Bangladesh!

Next up on this Bangladeshi food tour we walked out on the streets in their Dhaka neighborhood to eat some local street food snacks. We started with an amazing liver jhalmuri (30 BDT ($.035). Jhal means spicy and muri means puffed rice, and this is one of the most popular and common Bengali street food snacks. Especially with the liver, green chilies, and mustard oil, it was fantastic.

Continuing on the street food tour we ate some deep fried fast food like chicken rolls and Bangladeshi chicken nuggets. Then on to a stall that served amazing bhel puri and chotpoti - an incredible mix of chickpeas and spices, green chilies, onions, coriander, and tamarind sauce. The street was so tasty and without a doubt the bhel puri (20 BDT ($0.23 each) was my favorite snack of the night.

Finally to complete this Day 1 Bangladesh food tour we drove outside of Dhaka about an hour to Mawa Ghat, a famous location along the Padma River to take a ferry, and to eat the national fish of Bangladesh - hilsa (ilish). You choose your fish, we chose three, plus some extra fresh water prawns. The fish is cleaned and sliced in front of you, then marinated in turmeric and chili before being shallow fried in fragrant mustard oil. Additionally with the fried fish tails they smash them with onions and chilies and mustard oil to make Bhorta / Vorta - which is a common Bangla food preparation of ingredients that are smashed together to bring out their flavors. We had two types of fish vortas, an onion vorta, and a tomato vorta. It was an outstanding meal with incredible friends in Bangladesh!

Mid-West Towns & Fried Rice

Well we had some footage from our last trip that we didn't quite know what to do with. This video is the result... It isn't exactly the best video I have ever put together but there was so much footage I didn't want to just dump it all.

The best bit is probably the fried rice cooking in the 4x4 annexe so if you hate the first bit, just skip to 08:28

It isn't quite our normal style of video but hopefully it will be interesting enough :)

Rice Harvest in Thailand: Growing and Harvesting Rice in Rural Isaan

The full rice harvest in rural Thailand (Isaan) by staring with ploughing the fields and sowing the rice seeds during rainy season in July, to the final harvest, and drying and bagging of rice in November at the beginning of winter, and Thailand's dry season. The harvest takes place in the Buriram Province of Isaan and features myself, a part-time expat, as I bumble through the rice cultivation processes. While most are harvested by harvester, occasional smaller plots are still done by hand. There's also lots of beautiful drone shots from above the rice fields and timelapse videos through the seasons of the paddies in between. The bags of rice now sit in our back storage and will be used to eat and to trade for currency throughout the year.

For more on our life in Thailand and travels in Asia check our website All material is produced by travel bloggers Fanfan and Allan Wilson.

In late October and November the rice fields in Nepal turn from green to golden and farmers across the country begin the harvest. From cutting the rice stalks and laying them out to dry in the fields, to threshing, winnowing, and replanting, the backbreaking work is primarily done by hand, without the use of modern farm implements or tractors.

Pals Rice Fields (Costa Brava, Spain).

Please buy me a coffee if you like the content

The medieval village of Pals stands on a hill just a few kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. The surrounding plains were once marshland and make the perfect environment for growing rice. Rice cultivation in the plains around Pals dates back to 1452 when permission was granted to construct a rice mill and irrigation canals. And some of the festivities tied to the traditional planting and harvesting methods still exist today.
