Late night rain walk in old Japanese town // 4K HDR
Wandering the streets of Takayama, Japan, where there are many old japanese houses that have been preserved over the years.
Nestled in the heart of the Japanese Alps amidst a lush natural landscape, Takayama's historic district (高山) stands as a testament to Japan's prosperous Edo period (1603-1868). This ancient merchant city in Gifu prefecture has long been celebrated for the exceptional woodcraft produced by its local artisans. During the 8th century, when the city couldn't pay its taxes in rice, as was customary, it provided the remarkable talents of its woodworkers as an alternative. Presently, Takayama is often referred to as the little Kyoto of the Japanese Alps, thanks to its pedestrian-friendly streets adorned with traditional houses.
Experience a Timeless Journey in Takayama's Old Town
Situated just east of the Miyagawa River that flows through the city center, Takayama's historic district (古い町並, Furui Machinami) is a well-preserved former merchant area. It consists of two official preservation districts for traditional buildings, featuring numerous Edo-period merchant houses characterized by latticed bay windows and wooden trellises. The slender facades were initially designed to minimize property taxes.

Takayama's old town's Sannomachi street showcases preserved Edo-period buildings.
During the day, the streets are marked by noren shop curtains and sugidama (cedar sprig balls hung in sake breweries). As night descends, and the tourists retreat, a serene quiet envelops the neighborhood. The gentle glow of lights emerging from behind the wooden lattices transports you back to a time of ancient elegance and enchantment.

Akihabara , also called Akiba after a former local shrine, is a district in central Tokyo that is famous for its many electronics shops. In more recent years, Akihabara has gained recognition as the center of Japan's Otaku culture and many shops and establishment devoted to anime and manga are now dispersed among the electronic stores in the district. Hundreds of electronics shops ranging from tiny one-man stalls specializing in a particular electronic component to large electronics retailers, line the main Chou Dori street and the crowded side streets around Akihabara. They offer everything from the newest computers, cameras, televisions, mobile phones, electronics parts and home appliances to second hand goods and electronic junk.

Virtual walk from Ueno Station to Akihabara / Japan 4K
Take a virtual walk from Ueno Station to Akihabara. The ueno station area is famous for its shopping districts where crowds of people gather on weekends for a bite to eat in local restaurants in the open air, or to grab a cheap goods. Akihabara isn't called Electric Town for no reason. As soon as you step off the train, you're bombarded with adverts for all the latest gaming technology, anime merchandise and themed cafes. The gigantic Yodabashi-camera, alongside Chuo Dori (or main street's) equally large selection of shops, create a gaming mecca where the most up-to-date 3D gaming gear, robotics and vintage consoles are all found within walking distance of each other..
