As an urban escape enclave, the green spaces brought experience of tropical hospitality design to create a rich landscape that provides an escape from the adjacent urban areas.
Reef Island is situated right in the heart of Manama, the capital of Bahrain. The development has coverages 150 acres divided into eight phases completely reclaimed from the sea. Following the initial design work of master planning, the landscape design provides services for the entire island including the public infrastructure.
The concept of ‘sense of place’ is maintained throughout the design by the creation of vistas and tree avenue at major nodes that either look towards the super yacht marina, or to key urban forms in Manama. The vistas provided key urban landscape spaces and form a series of parks. The introductory of active outdoor lifestyle is supported by landscape arrangement of landscaped streets, parks, waterfront promenades, beaches, the marina and precincts of alfresco dining and plazas that punctuate the island.
Reef Island Bahrain Restaurant (Moon Lagoon), Clubhouse & Lagoon
We decided to check out Reef Island Bahrain’s newest attractions, the clubhouse and lagoon! The lagoon features a beach area where you can lounge, take out a kayak or paddleboat or even swim out to the floating restaurant (Reef Island’s Moon Lagoon) in the center. We opted to take a boat to get there!

Multiple jellyfish invaded the shores of Reef Island, Bahrain as people were out on the water. I first mistook them for floating plastic bags, but was delighted to discover that they were jellies! We think they might be the rhizostoma jellyfish, but are unsure.
