But let us tell you this, first year overlanders with basically no skills driving through colorful villages, sharp mountain egdes and loose sand dunes is guaranteed an adventure. Jeep Vs. West Africa Mud Pit - Guinea
I drive my Overland Modified Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa.
This is the highway in the North of Guinea from Koundára to Labé. National Route something something.
The Chinese are building a section of it, this was a bit they hadn't got to yet.
These trucks had been stuck in the mud for days, which guys working in an attempt to unload them to reduce weight. My Jeep walked right through the mud with no problem. Tires are BFG KO2 All-Terrain.

Mauritania Nouadhibou to Nouakchott - Africa Overland in a Land Rover Defender
Mauritania brings with it a very memorable journey for all the wrong reasons. Having made it to Mauritania we face our biggest challenge yet on our overland Africa adventure as we leave Nouadhibou to dig & drive through a Mauritanian minefield, follow the railroad to the beach road nearly losing the land rover to the Atlantic Ocean as we drive south along the empty beach and over sand dunes on our journey to the capital city of Mauritania - Nouakchott.
There is no doubting the desolate beauty as we stare out into the Atlantic Ocean with the sand dunes to our back, but the forces of nature also provide unexpected challenges.
Land Rover Africa Overland

Twenty years ago my wife and I packed up our life in the UK and set off to drive overland in our Land Rover Defender with the aim of driving all the way to the Cape Town in South Africa, a journey which will take us from coast to coast along the length and breadth of Africa.
Because this journey was twenty years ago, there were no smartphones, no google maps, and no digital cameras. The photos taken on the journey were on transparencies, designed to be projected. I have taken photographs of some of those slides for the purpose of showing in this video.

MAURITANIA: Breakdown in the middle of the desert! Terjit Oasis and Chinguetti // EPS. 3
The rough ride through Mauritania: Breakdown in the middle of the desert, a trip to an ancient town that gets burried by the dunes, and new friends who helped us solve our problems.
We started off in the mauritanian city Nouadhibou, where we learned how to adapt to local customs. After a short stay in Mauritanias capital Nouakchott we started our journey inlands – hundreds of kilometers in the burning heat with 40 degrees celsius plus. When doing a little excursion to the oasis Terjit we got stuck in deep sand – and my travel partner burnt the clutch of his Africa Twin motorcycle. With the help of the whole village we were able to get to a local guesthouse – but the Africa Twin would not start anymore. While looking for a solution I did excursions to the city Atar and the ancient town Chinguetti, which once was one of the most important cities of Islam. How we solved the problem with the motorcycle? Watch the whole episode to find out if we were ever able to leave the oasis of Terjit!
