The Most Beautiful Flight - Air Tahiti to Bora Bora
I traveled on Air Tahiti to explore the beauty of French Polynesian islands. My flight is from Papeete to Bora Bora with a stop at Huahine. I was invited to fly in the cockpit jumpseat on Air Tahiti ATR 72-600. Our first leg from Papeete to Huahine took about 30 minutes flying at 12,000 ft. We had a clear view of Moorea on the way.
Huahine is an island located among the Society Islands. Our flight brings in locals, tourists and daily supplies. Flying time to Bora Bora was just 15 minutes, at 4,000 ft. The weather becomes clear and I can see the turquoise-blue ocean and crystal-clear lagoon. The scenery was out of this world and it was one of the most beautiful flights I’ve taken.
There are no roads and no cars at Bora Bora airport. The only transportation is by boat to the main center or hotel. My flight back to Papeete was equally scenic, we flew low over some Tahitian overwater bungalow. Aviation plays an important role in transporting travelers and cargo supplies to these islands.
Tahitian Dreamliner: Air Tahiti Nui - The Most Exotic 787
I hopped on an Air Tahiti Nui Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Auckland to Papeete, French Polynesia. Air Tahiti Nui 787 is the most colorful and the most exotic 787 I’ve flown. Flight attendants gave out tiara flowers to passengers. The flight was an immersive experience of Tahitian culture.
I literally traveled back in time and gained a day by flying from the earliest time zone (New Zealand) to the last timezone (Tahiti) by crossing the dateline on this flight. Tahiti is located in the middle of the South Pacific with isolation. The nearest diversion point is Cook Island. As a nice welcome, Polynesian music was performed after landing at Papeete Faa’a International Airport.
I spent a day exploring the island of Papeete by visiting a waterfall and spending some time planespotting. Next week, I will fly on Air Tahiti domestically to explore the Tahitian Islands of Huahine and Bora Bora.

Ok - little clarification here, Tahiti is just ONE (1) island of more than one-hundred islands that make up French Polynesia... and at least one of those islands is sure to show up on your luxury travel bucket list. But, you definitely don't need to look elsewhere if you aren't on a honeymoon budget. So let's try out Polynesia two ways: ballin' out on Bora Bora (Four Seasons, baby) and budget travel on the Island of Tahiti.

C'est le jour du GRAND VOYAGE ! Partir en Polynésie Française depuis la France est un sacré voyage, d'une durée totale de 23h environ, coupé d'une escale soit à San Francisco, soit à Vancouvert, soit comme ça a été le cas pour nous via Toronto au canada.
Sans compter les différentes autorisations obligatoires à se procurer avant le départ (formulaire ETIS pour l'entrée en Polynésie, formulaire AVE pour passage au canada, pass sanitaire vaccinal, test PCR anti covid de -72h, attestation sur l'honneur d'état non symptomatique au covid 19...etc) bref un véritable parcours du combattant pour accéder à l'embarquement :)
Nous avons choisi de vous faire partager notre périple jusqu'au bout du monde, du départ en train de Montpellier jusqu'à Paris Orly 4 , en passant par Toronto, jusqu'à l'arrivée à l''aéroport de Tahiti-Faaa. Et tout ça, chargés de 6 bagages bien lourds ! (2x23kg en soute, 2x 12kg en cabine passager, et des bagages à main) et de 12h de décalage horaire !!! Epuisant.

What to do in Papeete, Tahiti on a long layover
Papeete is often a quick stopover for travelers heading to Bora Bora or other islands in French Polynesia, but did you know there's a LOT to do in Tahiti? One pro tip we did learn on this latest trip, though, is not to arrive on a Sunday.
We flew into Papeete on Sunday around 6am and went straight to our downtown hotel to drop off our luggage. The famous Tahiti Pearl Market (Marché) closes at 10am on Sundays so we wanted to get there before it closed. The Market is one of the most fun places to shop in Tahiti thanks to the wide variety of jewelry, pearl qualities and fun local items.
One thing we did not take into account, though, was that no restaurants or other shops are open at all on any Sunday. So after 3 hours of browsing and racing against the clock to buy things before closing, we were starving.
Thankfully, we ended up stumbling upon our new favorite place, 3 Brasseurs, that started serving food at 11am. So with 45 minutes to go, we had a drink and relaxed.
We love Tahiti - even on a Sunday - but if you have the choice, try arriving on any other day haha!

- Gauguin garden tahiti - The Paul Gauguin Museum (French: Musée Paul Gauguin) is a Japanese-styled art museum dedicated to the life and works of Paul Gauguin in Tahiti, French Polynesia. Unfortunately The Museum was closed for renovations so we just have lunch @ Restaurant Bar du Musee Gauguin.
- Harrison Smith Botanical Garden At the beginning of the 20th century, a physics professor in Massachusetts inherited a ton of money. He promptly headed for the South Pacific, settling there and founding what’s now the Harrison Smith Botanical Garden. Maybe Smith had a slight Noah complex: He brought in plants from around the world, which means an African flower might sit next to a South American fern. The problem is that he inadvertently killed off the native plants with his imports. Still, the garden is a lovely spot to wander around, a sampler box of world botany. Here lives one of the oldest giant Turtles in the world 250 years wich was pet bei Gauguin.

- Teahupoo in a Rainy day... Teahupoʻo is a village on the southwestern coast of the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is known for the surf break and heavy, glassy waves offshore, often reaching 2 to 3 m, and sometimes up to 7 meters.
