Overall Impression:

For those who know me through my past reviews, you'll know that I'm a huge fan of American's business class seats on their 777-300ER (seat 4J being my favorite), and I'm happy to be back in my favorite seat on this flight. As expected, the seat was comfortable for sitting upright, lounging, and sleeping, and I love that my knees do not bump into anything laying down. Everything from the storage to the controls are all thoughtfully placed for easy access while seated.

In terms of catering out of London, it was actually pretty good. The food tasted fresh and was very good.

The crew was charming and very attentive. Our flight attendant Susan was amazing, along with all the flight attendants we interacted with. The crew was attentive and eager to please. Susan also constantly checked on us during the flight to see if we needed anything.

What I liked:

The seats - It's back to my favorite seat on AA. Seat 4J in the mini business class cabin is very private as there are only 8 seats in the cabin. The seat, as you know if you've seen my previous reviews is very comfortable and is among my favorite seats in the sky. You get plenty of storage and personal space and I love how everything is intuitively laid out for easy reach and access.

The onboard service – The crew on this flight was excellent. Our flight attendant, Susan was amazing! She took good care of us along with the rest of the crew. She even offered us a pre-departure drink, which is unheard of on a US carrier since the pandemic began. Our drinks were constantly refilled and the crew proactively checked on us to see if we needed anything. The crew also setup a walk-up snackbar near the galley mid-flight.

The IFE - AA's Panasonic IFE is among my favorite in the sky. The interface is intuitive and responsive. There was also plenty of media content and my favorite Voyager moving map app to keep me occupied during this 11-hour transatlantic flight.

The Amenities - AA offers a business class amenity kit, Bang and Olufsen noise canceling headphones (collected 45 minutes before landing), bottled water, and a full-size pillow and duvet set.

BA Galleries First Lounge at LHR T5 - Since the pandemic, AA temporarily relocated their flight operations to Heathrow's Terminal 5 (they're now back to T3, just a few weeks ago). Our Oneworld Emerald status gave us access to the Galleries First Lounge, which is great. They offer an a la carte table service, where you can order from your seat via a QR code, and the staff will bring it to your seat. The food and beverage selection was very good and the pot pie that we ordered tasted delicious too!

What I didn't like:

Plastic Cups in Business Class - Please bring back the glassware soon!

It was OK...I guess:

The Food – The catering on this flight from London was actually very good. The food tasted fresh and the steak I ordered was perfectly cooked. The mini pies for the pre-arrival meal were small but pretty tasty.

Inside ANA 'The Room' Business Class | LA to Tokyo

Free Award Travel Discord:
Top Credit Card Picks: See Ad Disclosure Below
This is one of the world's best business classes. ANA's The Room has the largest seat out of any business class in the sky. Join me for my full review of this amazing product!

I flew 12 hours from Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda in this spectacular seat. ANA's The Room is famous for its absolutely massive seat and an unparalleled amount of privacy for business class. While The Room isn't quite as good as Qatar Qsuites, I would say that it may come in at a very close second.

The seat (if you can really even call it that) is hilariously large. Seriously it is almost the width of 2 typical business class seats. This allows you to spread out in a way that feels unreal on an airplane. Most international first class seats don't come close to the amount of space that ANA has here.

Furthermore, each seat features a set of closing doors which leave you feeling like you are in a world of your own. When the doors are closed, you don't even notice anyone else around you. It truly is as if you had your own private room.

While I didn't get to try out as much food as I wanted, what I had was great. Every dish I had was extremely high quality and fresh. If you have any dietary restrictions (such as being vegetarian) then I would recommend selecting your meal in advance. Unfortunately, unlike airlines like Qatar Airways, ANA doesn't always have vegetarian main courses available for selection onboard. I was lucky that they had extras for me but it is something to consider. The flight crew were all excellent. Everyone was super friendly and attentive.

I highly recommend this product. I would absolutely love to fly it again, especially since it is so easy to book using credit card points and miles.

Here is my cost for this flight:
-35,000 American Express Points (I transferred to Virgin Atlantic during a 30% transfer bonus)
-$360 for taxes and fees

It goes without saying this was a phenomenally good deal. This seat normally sells for over $4,000 one-way. The toughest part of booking this is by far finding the award availability. However, if you are flexible and are willing to take a close-in spontaneous trip then it is definitely possible.

Irasshaimase! Come join me and let's fly Japan Airlines Business Class to Tokyo!

Japan Airlines (JAL) is one of my favorite airlines, as I love anything Japan. JAL's Boeing 777-300ER flight from LAX-NRT offers 4 classes of service ranging from First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. There are 49 seats in business class configured in a 2-3-2 staggered layout. All seats have direct aisle access, and turn into a full flat bed. Onboard service was excellent. Although I felt that there was a slight language barrier, as the flight attendants working our aisle were a bit reserved to us, but not to other Japanese passengers. The food was amazing! I was a bit iffy about the catering from LAX, but our meals were delicious and beautifully presented. Overall I think JAL offers a solid business class product. The seats are comfortable, service very good, and food pure awesomeness! Now, if only they can fit their planes with air nozzles!

What I liked:
Qantas First Class Lounge at LAX - We got access to the Qantas First Class Lounge via our Oneworld Emerald Status. This is my favorite lounge at LAX. There's plenty of food and beverage options including a sit down restaurant with made to order food and a full bar inside the lounge. There's also plenty of seating to lounge and relax before the flight.

The Seats - I like the JAL Sky Suite product on the Boeing 777-300ER. The seat offer plenty of space, privacy, comfort for the 11.5 hour flight to Japan. The configuration is 2-3-2, but the staggered layout helps give passengers more room and privacy. All business class seats including the middle seat offer direct aisle access. My only complaint, is the seat width is a little on the narrow side, so bigger folks beware.

The Food - JAL calls its First and Business Class menu offerings BEDD, Sky Auberge, Your exclusive restaurant in the sky, and it really is. Onboard catering was excellent, especially if you like Japanese food. I ordered the Japanese meal for the first meal, and it was very colorful and nicely presented. Most of all it tasted amazing! My companion opted for the western set, and it was also nicely plated and he said it was delicious! After the first meal, JAL offers a dine-on-demand concept, where you can order any item from the anytime menu. Mid-flight, I had the JAL healthy ramen (vegetarian), while my companion ordered the mapo tofu bowl (vegetarian) along with a cup of ice cream for a snack. Both snack items were very filling and tasty! If the snacks don't fill you up, there's also an onboard snackbar with light snacks, wine, bottled waters, and magazines if you get bored. 2 hours before landing, I ordered the bacon, ham, and egg burrito set, while my companion ordered the Japanese set, which was steamed fish, miso soup, rice, and pickles. Needless to say, companion and I were both very pleased (and full!) with all our onboard meals on this flight.

The Onboard Service - The flight attendants delivered excellent and polished service during the flight. Though I believe they were a bit reserved because of the language barrier, I still think the crew was well-intentioned and very eager to please. Pre-departure beverage service with hot towels were offered. I was also proactively offered drink refills and the crew always responded to my please and thank yous. The flight attendants also regularly checked on passengers if they needed anything during the flight.

What I didn't like:
The IFE - This plane uses JAL's Magic V Entertainment system. There was a good number of  movies, TV programs, and Audio content, and even some games, but I am not a fan of having to navigate through all the content with just the touchscreen on the small remote. There is also a pretty basic moving map, which can be viewed on the IFE monitor.

The Cabin Temperature - JAL is notorious for having a very warm cabin which is not everyone's cup of tea. I personally like a cooler cabin, which more conducive to sleep. Sadly, this flight was a bit to warm for me. Also, the lack of personal air vents did not help get the cabin cool.

It was OK...I guess:
The Airplane - The Boeing 777-300ER is the workhorse for a lot of airlines because of its range, capacity, and most importantly its fuel consumption. However, with the release of the 787 Dreamliner, and Airbus A350, I feel that the airplane is past its prime. This aircraft is 14 years old, as it was delivered in 2005, but it was well maintained and kept very clean by the crew.

American Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 Dreamliner Tokyo - Los Angeles アメリカン航空ビジネスクラス東京羽田-ロサンゼルス

Please read the full trip report here:

Overall Impressions:

Unfortunately, this has been the dreaded “flight from hell”. Not only was the flight delayed almost 4 hours, there were also massive delays at LAX for just about everything else. It really was delays upon delays that day. I understand certain things are beyond the airlines’ control and ultimately what’s important is we get to our destination safely, in which we did. However for most people, traveling is already taxing enough as it is, and when you add delays and long wait times, it adds more stress which can be a recipe for disaster. The flight itself was fine, the service was done typical AA fashion with seemingly apathetic flight attendants just going through the motions. The food was very good as expected, as it was catered out of Tokyo. As I mentioned, the seats were comfortable for lounging and sleeping, but some of the seats move and shake as your neighbor moves, so be careful which seat you choose. Overall, I would give this flight a 6 out of 10.

Overall Impression:

Despite its reputation, I found the AA Zodiac Concept D seats surprisingly comfortable during my flight, and although I experienced some slight shaking, it didn't bother me as much as I had anticipated. The crew on the LAX-based flight was excellent, and the service was top-notch. It was great to see that AA had recently reinstated this route since the start of the pandemic, and I believe it's one of their best offerings. While the catering wasn't quite on par with Japan Airlines, it was still quite good for a US carrier. In addition, the availability of pajamas, slippers, and mattress pads was a pleasant surprise.

What I Liked:

Business Class Amenities - AA provides an impressive range of amenities for its business class passengers. The Shinola-branded pouch amenity kit, Bang and Olufsen noise-canceling headphones, and bottled water are standard offerings. The Casper mattress pad in addition to the full-size pillow and duvet set add an extra level of comfort to the flight. Additionally, business class passengers receive slippers and pajamas, which are thoughtful additions that enhance the business class experience on this route.

The service - The onboard service was a highlight of the flight, thanks to the exceptional LAX-based crew. The two business class flight attendants we interacted with were proactive, charming, and provided professional and efficient service throughout the flight. They struck the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism, and we felt well taken care of. The pre-departure beverage and hot towel service were noteworthy touches that added to the overall experience. We were thoroughly impressed with the level of service provided by the crew on this flight.

The IFE - AA's Panasonic IFE system is one of my favorites in the sky. The interface is intuitive and responsive, making it easy to navigate through the extensive selection of media content. I particularly enjoyed using the Voyager moving map app, which helped me stay entertained during the long transpacific flight. Overall, the IFE system was a great addition to the flight and contributed to an enjoyable experience.

The Flagship Lounge at LAX - We enjoyed a pleasant visit to the AA Flagship Lounge at LAX, which is spacious and offered ample seating through out. The lounge offers an extensive buffet spread and plenty of food and beverage options. The lounge's clean and well-maintained showers were also an added bonus.

What I didn't like:

Expensive WiFi - It's worth noting that the price of in-flight WiFi on AA flights has increased significantly. While it used to cost $20 for the entire flight, the current price is almost double at $35. This may be a concern for passengers who rely on WiFi during their journey, and it's something to keep in mind when budgeting for the overall cost of the flight.

It was OK...I guess:

The seats - Surprisingly, I found the Zodiac Concept D Seats to be quite comfortable despite the slight shaking caused by the adjacent seat. Although I did experience some slight shaking, it was not as bad as on previous flights. It's possible that AA has found a solution to the issues with these seats. I was pleased to discover that the plane had personal air nozzles, which kept me cool and comfortable throughout the flight.

The catering - As previously mentioned, the catering on our AA flight out of LAX was generally good. The Japanese meal I ordered after takeoff was excellent, while my companion's macadamia crusted sea bass was satisfactory. For the pre-arrival meal, the shrimp fried rice was delectable, though the cheese omelet was a bit dry and bland. However, the ice cream sundae for dessert certainly did not disappoint . The crew also thoughtfully provided a mid-flight snack basket for a quick bite, which was a nice touch.

Bottom Line:

In summary, our AA business class flight from LAX to Tokyo experience was impressive. We enjoyed the the expanded amenities offered on this route. The in-flight catering wasn't bad for a US carrier, and the Japanese meal I ordered was particularly enjoyable. The crew provided professional service throughout the flight. The Zodiac Concept D seats weren't as bothersome as our previous experience, but the expensive in-flight WiFi was a bit of a letdown. Despite these minor drawbacks, we arrived at our destination feeling refreshed and well-rested. Overall, while there were some areas that could be improved, we found this flight to be a solid choice for a comfortable and reliable journey to Tokyo.

Welcome to another trip report! Come join me and let's fly American Airlines Business Class to Tokyo!

What I liked:
Qantas First Class Lounge at LAX - We got access to the Qantas First Class Lounge via our Oneworld Emerald Status. This is my favorite lounge at LAX. There's plenty of food and beverage options including a sit-down restaurant with made to order food and a full bar inside the lounge. There's also plenty of seating to lounge and relax before the flight.

The Seats - I love AA's business class seats on the Boeing 777-300ER (similar to Cathay Pacific's Business Class seats). These Zodiac full flat seats offer plenty of space, privacy, comfort for the 11.5-hour flight to Japan. There's generous leg and foot space while lying down, and the 1-2-1 configuration gives all business class passengers direct aisle access. The seat itself is also wider, so I didn't feel cramped. The storage spaces, control panel, tray table, and IFE monitor are all intuitively placed, and within an arm's length from the seat. I was seated in 4J in the forward business class (mini) cabin. I love how this section felt cozy and quiet since there are only 8 seats.

The IFE - I love AA's IFE system. The interface is easy to navigate via the wired remote of touchscreen. There are dozens of new and classic movies, TV programs, Live TV, audio content, a handful of games to choose from -- and not to mention it has my favorite Voyager 3D moving map.

The Cabin Temperature - AIR NOZZLES! Yes, AA has air nozzles on this plane! The cool air really helps me cool down and relax when it's time for bed. The crew also kept the cabin relatively cool during the flight, so it was easy to fall asleep.

What I didn't like:

AA Flagship Lounge at LAX - The flagship lounge at LAX was recently renovated, but I feel like the lounge is always so crowded when I'm there. It took us a while to find a seat, but it wasn't all bad. There's an extensive buffet spread with cold and hot food items, and a very good beverage selection. There's also a taco bar during certain times of the day.

Onboard amenities - I've flown AA's LAX/DFW-Hong Kong route a lot, and I love the Casper mattress pad, and pajamas that are available for business class passengers. Sadly, neither of those were available on this flight let alone a food and wine menu. The lavatories, though clean lacked the usual toiletries/amenities found on other carriers' business class lavatories.

It was OK...I guess:

The Food - AA's onboard catering is kind of a hit or miss from LAX. Thankfully the food on this flight was decent. I ordered the Japanese meal for the first meal service and thanks to AA's menu collaboration with JAL, the meal was delicious and beautifully presented. My companion had the western meal and beef short ribs for the main, and he said it was pretty good though somewhat forgettable. For dessert, I had AA's signature ice cream sundae while my companion had the passion fruit torte. Both were a nice end to the meal and did not disappoint. AA also offers some made to order light meals mid-flight and I ordered the cold Zaru soba noodles served with some fruits. It was light, yet still satisfying. The crew also sets up a walk-up snackbar near the galley for those opting for something quick. 90 minutes before landing, the second meal service commenced, and I ordered the chicken and rice bowl (oyako-don), served with some salad greens, and cheesecake for dessert. The meal didn't look very inspiring, but it was actually pretty good.

The Onboard Service - The flight attendants delivered decent service for a US carrier. They weren't actively  rude, just a bit indifferent. Pre-departure beverages were offered upon boarding, and hot towels were passed out after takeoff and right before landing. The crew were efficient during the meal service, but I the service felt rushed, and they wanted to get the meals out quickly and be done with the service. Some flight attendants would occasionally pass through the aisles during the flight to see if anyone needed anything, but for the most part they just hung out in the galley.

Overall Impression:
As most of you by now know, American (AA) is my US carrier of choice. I’ve been loyal to them for over 5 years now after my frustration with United and Delta’s frequent flyer programs. If you’ve read my last review on American, you’ll know that AA recently changed their operating aircraft on the LAX-HND route from a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to a 777-300ER (B77W). American’s B77W offers 4 classes of service from First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. Business Class is fitted with 52 Zodiac Aerospace flat bed seats, all of which have direct aisle access thanks to the reverse herringbone configuration. These are among my favorite business class seats in the sky. They are both very private and comfortable for both lounging and sleeping. It also helps that AA keeps their cabin very cool during the flight, so it was very conducive to sleep. And did I mention they have air nozzles? 
Much like other US carriers, American certainly needs improvement in their premium cabin service, but we surprisingly had a very good crew on this flight. The flight attendant working our aisle delivered very good service. She wasn’t the most polished, but nonetheless she very professional and attended to all our needs. The catering on this flight was pretty good and fresh, well except for the pre-landing meal. :/

What I liked:

The JAL First Class Lounge at Haneda - Because of our Oneworld Emerald Status, we had access to the JAL First Class Lounge in Haneda. There's plenty of food and beverage options including made to order food. The lounge is expansive and offers plenty of seating to lounge and relax before the flight. They offer shower rooms and there's even a relaxation room with massage chairs.

The Seat - The reverse herringbone configuration is one of my favorite business class configuration, and this seat is my favorite among all in terms of privacy and comfort. The seat is well laid out and everything you need from the tray table, seat controls, and storage are all within easy reach. AA offers a Casper branded pillow and duvet, but sadly no mattress pad on this flight. Regardless, I slept for 6+ hours right after the meal service.

The Onboard Service - The flight attendants delivered excellent very good service for a US carrier. The flight attendant working our aisle wasn’t all smiles, but still very friendly. Most importantly, she attended to all our needs during the flight. Our glasses were proactively refilled, and our plates promptly cleared when we were finished.

The IFE – This is one of the things AA does right. The IFE system offers a plethora of media content. There are hundreds of movies, TV programs, and games to keep you busy during the flight. Their moving map app is also excellent.

The Cabin Temperature – AA keeps their cabins cool during the flight and I love it because I’m able to fall asleep easily. The air nozzles also helps keep you cool.

What I didn't like:
The pre-landing meal - Sadly, AA’s All American Breakfast plate was a bit of a letdown. The canadian bacon and potatoes were hard as rocks. I just ate a few bites and gave it back. The highlight of the meal was the fruit smoothie that they give out to all business class passengers before the meal service.

It was OK...I guess:
The Food - In my experience, I usually find the onboard catering from Japan very good. The cold salad greens and prawn appetizer dish tasted fresh, and the beef filet was very tender. My companion had the salmon, and he mentioned it was a bit overcooked, but still good. For dessert, I had the ice cream sundae and it did not disappoint. My companion had the red bean and green tea tart, and he said it was very good -- light and not too sweet. I slept through most of the flight, so I didn’t have the mid-flight snack, but I did have breakfast prior to landing.

American Airlines Business Class Tokyo Haneda to Los Angeles Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner Review

Here's another great flight on one of American Airlines' new routes from Tokyo Haneda to Los Angeles. This flight was operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Seat 2A was very comfortable, the service, and food were also very good. Overall I would give this flight a good 8 out of 10.

American Airlines NEW Business Class Boeing 777-200ER Tokyo to Dallas アメリカン航空ビジネスクラス 東京成田―ダラスフォートワース

Overall Impression: I really like these new business class seats! They are very comfortable for both sitting and sleeping, private, and has plenty of storage space. These seats are definitely way better than the Zodiac Concept-D seats that American has on their 787-8 Dreamliners and some 777-200ERs. Both meal services were done in typical AA fashion, which may or may not appeal to some, but I though the crew were friendly, efficient, and attended to my needs. In terms of food, the Japanese meal I ordered was excellent (not as amazing as the food I ate on my recent JAL flight, but still very good). I think it also helped that the food was catered from Japan. The pre-landing meal was decent, but forgettable. My only complaint is the broken seat, but that was rectified by the crew and I was able to sleep for a good 5 hours thanks to the cool cabin temperature. I would give this flight a very good 8 out of 10.

American Airlines Business Class| 777-300ER| Los Angeles - Hong Kong

A great flight with AA. The Flagship lounge at LAX has great service and amenities. Once on the plane, the hours are very good. Takeoff is at 1:30am meaning that it is easy to fall asleep and land in HK refreshed. Food was terrific. Service was average. One of the flight attendants, noticed my cameras and told me that while I’m not supposed to have them, she would be ok with it and not tell anyone. IFE is great. Large selection of movies, TV, and music. Before I knew it, we were landing in HKG!

Airplane cleanliness: 8/10
Crew attitude: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Seats: 10/10
IFE: 10/10
Food: 10/10
Lounge: 10/10

Overall rating: Great 9/10

Would I recommend flying AA business class on 777-300: absolutely!

American Airlines Business Class Los Angeles to London Boeing 777-300ER Review

I've flown the LAX-LHR route before on American and the service was on par with our previous flights on this route. The crew was cordial and friendly, but not too engaging. The meals, as is the norm with US carriers were OK, but could greatly be improved. The seat...well as you already know this is my favorite type of business class seat, as it is spacious as it is private. A very comfortable flight indeed. I would give this flight a solid 8.5 out of 10.
