The most scenic drive in Albania. 〢 Hitchhiking Albania Episode 2 〢

☞ SUBTITLES AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH – ESPANOL

▼▼ Expand the description! ▼▼

Last week we crossed the border between Greece and Albania and started our hitchhiking adventure through the second country of this trip. We had a very warm welcome in Sarandë and visited Syri i Kalter, also called 'The Blue Eye'.
But the time arrived to say goodbye to our new friends and continue our way to Dhermi, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Albanian Riviera. We spent the evening and night next to the beach in a camping and continued the day afterwards to Berat. On our way we were (again) very lucky with our driver, drove through the Llogara National Park and stopped for a traditional Albanian lunch. After three more rides we arrived in Berat were we visited the castle up the hill and the city. And also this, like you can probably already predict, by HITCHHIKING!

Off the Beaten Path-Best Beaches in Albania-The Amazing Albanian Riviera

Did you have any idea the Albanian Riviera was so beautiful? While there are tons of great beaches in Albania, the best beaches for us were Ksamil and Borsh! What is better than a castle in the mountains just steps from the most crystal clear blue water beach? Nothing, the answer is nothing. Borsh and Ksamil were our favorite Albanian beach spots, but there are so many to choose from, each with it's own personality and perks! Which spot is your favorite?

WORTH THE HYPE? THE ALBANIAN RIVIERA'S MOST FAMOUS BEACHES! | Gjipe Beach, Dhermi & Qeparo ????????

Welcome to the Albanian Riviera! This part of Albania is absolutely STUNNING!

We had so much exploring its beaches and just living our best Summer life :) We had some issues with the bus situation one more time, but without that, it wouldn't be a travel day in Albania.

We hope you enjoy this Albanian Riviera vlog and hope you get to visit these awesome spots. Gjipe beach was by far the most beautiful beach we visited!! And from all the beach towns we went to (not all included in this video) Qeparo was our favorite. There's not much to see in Dhermi besides for the beach... but it all comes to what you prefer because everyone has different travel styles.

Anyways, you guys know you can ask us anything! We're always happy to help :)

Thanks so much for watching our videos. We don't take it for granted!

XO,
Aimara & Gordon

Albania is all about hospitality! 〢 Hitchhiking Albania Episode 3 〢

☞ SUBTITLES AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH – ITALIANO

▼▼ Expand the description! ▼▼

After following the coastline of the Albanian riviera through Sarandë and Dhermi, we arrived in Berat last week.
From there, we continued further inland to the capital of Albania, Tirana. Once here, we had the luck to stay in the best hostel ever! Adriano, the owner, treated us for three days as his own children so you can imagine the goodbye was very hard...
The next stop, and also the last in Albania, is Shköder. From there we made our way to the border with Montenegro where we had to say goodbye to Albania

Aljazeera - The Traveler - Albania - Episode 1 (activate subtitles)

We haven’t been posting much over the past year. Because we were busy with these ones.
This is the first episode from a season we directed and produced for The Traveler, a new travel series broadcasted on Al Jazeera Arabic.
What do you think should we publish all 15 episodes?
Make sure to activate the subtitles while watching.

All episodes:
originally launched and broadcasted in June 2018

This time: Albania!

“Hidden gem” is an overused word, but when talking about Albania both words have their true sense. Being closed off from the world for decades, ruled by despot forces, Albania opened it’s doors only a quarter of a century ago. After the fall of Communism, Albania was at once revealed to the world. Rugged mountain scapes, immensely rich of deep turquoise blue water flowing through it’s rivers, hot springs, a Mediterranean vibe, the friendliest people and last but not least the highly fascinating history and heritage; castles, ruins from the big empires to the bunkers left in the past century.

In this episode the remote and rugged Albanian Alps, the Krüje bazaar, The Skanderbeg museum, amazing Lake Koma, Lake Shkoder, Rozafa Castle, climbing and zip lining in Kosovo

The problem with hitchhiking in Albania... ????????

Today was another hitchhiking day from Kruja to Durres. The distance is only 44 km / 30 miles. I got 4 rides in total. the first ride was fine, but the second ride he was trying to be very friendly and stuff but when I tried to leave he begged me money and that's when I realize that you have to make sure when you get on to the car. One time a car stopped but when I told him NO MONEY he just left. So I found that a little bit frustrating but it also kind of makes sense... Though I somehow made it to Durres, I can't complain. Pretty excited to explore a new city !!

Albania Has It All — An Island, Beach & Mountains In One Day | Vlore & Himare Vlog

Albania road trip continues - today we travel to the Island of Zvernec in Vlore, through the mountains and on to Himare beach...⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —

Another epic adventure as we travel around Albania on our road trip, risking it all driving these Albanian roads!... we joke, kind of haha.

Here's our epic Himare accom: other great options: Note — if you book ANY accom worldwide through these links it helps us a lot! If you're booking some accom just click on one of these links first :)

Our first stop is Zvernec Island in Vlore, home to the Zvernec Monastery on a very random and tiny island. There's fortunately a really nice bridge/boardwalk that you can walk to get out to the island and visit the Monastery.

Next up we drove through the famous mountains of Albania, known as Llogara Pass - the views up here are insane! Albania is known for it's crazy roads, mountain passes and incredible views and the Llogara Pass basically summarised that in one trip! The roads in Albania honestly aren't as bad as people make out, but Googling the road or highway first to get feedback is smart to avoid the shockers.

Our travel home for the next few nights is in Himare - a really great beach town. Himare beach isn't necessarily the best beach in Albania, but it's got a lot of charm, great food options, water sports and casual cafe and bars... all of those are good with us!

NUCLEAR BUNKERS OF ALBANIA ???????? | Tirana Travel Vlog Part 1 of 2

Today we travel Tirana and hunt out the nuclear bunkers that Albania is known for. Albanian history is a little on the...⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —

Travel in Tirana is crazy interesting, Albania has such a crazy history with Enver Hoxha and his communist routine that it's revival has led to these unique bunkers all around the country. Aiming to build 750,000 nuclear bunkers around Albania he didn't quite succeed in that mission, but around Tirana we must have spotted at least 30 or so on our travels. On our road trip south of Albania we spotted hundreds more bunkers - fortunately, as history points out now, there was no nuclear attack and Albania prepared these bunkers without much reason.

You'll quickly pick up from this travel vlog how much we enjoy Tirana, it's a really cool place that hopefully translates well into this video and the others from Tirana we're still to share (including part 2 of this vlog).

Albania has been a real surprise for us, the kind of place we love visiting to film a few different kind of travel vlogs to show off something unique, some crazy history, travel around and do some exploring.

Finding nuclear bunkers wasn't on our to do list but you really can't visit Albania without finding them and being curious!

Interesting in more about Tirana? Have a read over our Tirana travel guide with all the info we picked up from exploring here:

Albania... Really!? First day hitchhiking in Albania!!!

One of the most fun video to edit! I genuinely enjoyed the day. This is the kind of day that I truly feel like I'm traveling. Really felt the kindness of Albanian people that day, even the guy who wanted me to pay 15 euros came back to offer a ride for free after seeing me go on the crazy sketchy roads... and Theth!? what are you, you're so amazing ne. Who would expect somewhere like this would exist in Albania!!! Absolutely stunning. I will spend a few days here in Theth so don't miss the coming videos of this beautiful place!!

Hitchhiking in Albania

By Kim Berghout
@vrouwopreis
vrouwopreis.nl

Albania is a country in Europe, but some aspects remind me much more of south east Asia. Until 20 years ago the country was as closed as North Korea is nowadays. They even had a law that said every foreigner that managed to get in had to be killed immediately!

Lucky, the complete opposite is happening now and people are glad to welcome everyone. The majority of the people are Muslim, although you will have a hard time finding a women with a headscarf on the street. The young women of Albania are beautiful, stylishly dressed and care a lot about fashion. You will see most of them wearing high heels and lipstick when outside. The men drink lots of coffee, you will see the bars filled with them every hour of the day. They occasionally shout at women passing by, trying to get their attention. The parks are mostly occupied by the older men playing chess and the women knitting socks and making byrecs (a delicious pastry, mostly with dough and goat cheese).

The country is beautiful, with mountains, beaches and lots of castles. There are not a lot of big clothing stores and very few supermarkets. Many big companies have not reached this country yet and people are selling everything on the streets: tabacco, shoes, food, clothes. Live is cheap, but the wages are low as well. A coffee will not cost you more then 50 Lek (35 euro cents) and the same applies to byrec and bread.
Hitchhiking is incredible easy. With an average waiting time of two minutes it's by far the best county for hitchhiking in Europe. Also, every other driver will invite you for a coffee or tea on the way, since there is no change they are driving for more then an hour without having a coffee. ;)

The most confusing thing is the body language concerning yes and no. If an Albanian means yes, he or she will say 'Poh' and shake the head. No means nodding and saying 'Jah'. Imagine ordering food..

Not many Albanians speak English, but when you ask them something they will probably find someone for you who does or call a friend that will try to answer your question. One man who gave us a ride, but didn't speak English and decided to call his daughter to talk to us. She told us not to worry, because 'her father will take care of us as bring us anywhere we wanted to go in the next city'.

To conclude: The food is amazing, the country beautiful, live happens mostly outside and the people are friendly and welcoming. Go see it for yourself!

ALBANIA TO MONTENEGRO EN AUTOSTOP (HITCHHIKING) | Feeling Uncomfortable In Our Ride + Being Conned?

???? IN THIS VLOG

Welcome to Ep28 of our hitchhiking journey from Thailand to Spain. This is a journey we completed in 2017 when crossing borders was pretty easy and hugs and handshakes was still a thing. Join us on this journey down memory lane for some amazing adventures through South East Asia, China, Central Asia, The Caucasus, Turkey, the Balkan and Southern Europe.

In this episode we leave the beautiful Albanian riviera and start making our way towards the country of Montenegro. Malin feels uncomfortable with our ride, something that doesn't normally happen and she doesn't know why. We camp by lake Shkodër, at a spot we'd understood was for free, but was it really?
