This video was filmed in Fhsat village, Kukës region, a landlocked county in northeastern Albania. Many villages in Albania are dying as people left for a better opportunity in Tirana or mostly, abroad illegally/legally. Many homes are left abandoned (photos shown below) and only the older generations still exist in these villages. The lack of infrastructure, declining economy, inexistence of health care, and harsh winter are some of the key factors that made people decide to leave. There's very little trust in their government, much like many other countries, so the locals themselves aren't very hopeful. I was grateful for the opportunity to learn such nuances from my stay in the village, as it taught me a sense of empathy.
The following day, I decided to leave the guest house early. As I was about to leave, I received a couple of messages from friends telling me it would be raining for the entire week. I told myself not to panic as such weather meant my remaining travel plan would be disrupted. I had to focus on riding the same off-road and made sure that I wouldn't have any accidents. I was glad that I had only a minor incident that seemed to be unavoidable. As the gravel was very slippery, my scooter and I fell but thankfully it wasn't far from the end of that rocky road. I encouraged myself to keep going as the town I was heading to was only 30km away.
ABOUT ME:
I started solo travelling in 2013 and left Indonesia in 2016 to pursue full-time travelling while at the same time documenting my journey as I explore different cultures as a solo female traveller.
Having initially travelled for 5 months throughout Asia, I moved to China in January 2017 for an English teaching job, which was my first experience living abroad.
Since leaving China in 2018, I have taken the move to become a full-time YouTube creator and traveller. I strive to create unique, culture-driven content and capture authentic interactions as I travel.

Tirana is the capital and largest city by area and population of the Republic of Albania. It is located in the center of Albania enclosed by mountains and hills with Mount Dajt elevating on the east and a slight valley on the northwest overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance. Due to its location at the Plain of Tirana and the close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, the city is particularly influenced by a Mediterranean seasonal climate. It is among the wettest and sunniest cities in Europe, with 2,544 hours of sun per year.
Tirana flourished as a city in 1614 but the region that today corresponds to the city's territory has been continuously inhabited since the Iron Age. The area was inhabited by Illyrians, and was most likely the core of the Illyrian Kingdom of the Taulantii, which in Classical Antiquity was centred in the hinterland of Epidamnus. Following the Illyrian Wars it was annexed by Rome and became an integral part of the Roman Empire. The heritage of that period is still evident and represented by the Mosaics of Tirana. Later, in the 5th and 6th centuries, a Early Christian basilica was built around this site.
After the Roman Empire split into East and West in the 4th century, its successor the Byzantine Empire took control over most of Albania, and built the Petrelë Castle in the reign of Justinian I. The city was fairly unimportant until the 20th century, when the Congress of Lushnjë proclaimed it as Albania's capital, after the Albanian Declaration of Independence in 1912.
Classified as a gamma-world-city, Tirana is the most important economic, financial, political and trade center in Albania due to its significant location in the center of the country and its modern air, maritime, rail and road transportation. It is the seat of power of the Government of Albania, with the official residences of the President and Prime Minister of Albania, and the Parliament of Albania. The city was announced as the European Youth Capital for 2022.
