Hike to Mataniko Falls, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands

First, sorry about the shaky camera work. I shot all of this on my iPhone; often while hiking. Fine cinematography it ain't, but it hopefully provides a good sense of the trip.

This hike starts in the village of Tavaruhu (I think that's the name) and ascends the hills where some of the fiercest fighting in the WWII Battle for Guadalcanal took place: Galloping Horse Hill, Sea Horse Hill, the Thin Red Line ridge (I believe so-called Bloody Ridge), Hills 54-58. Fox holes dug by American troops line both sides of the trail. I unfortunately started hiking at around 11:30 a.m., so the tropical heat was pretty brutal as I climbed through the barren terrain. Eventually, though, the trail steeply descends into more sheltered jungle. The foxholes continue, including one shown in the video where a Japanese artillery shell has rested for the past 60 years. The trail ends at Mataniko Falls: a series of falls flowing over limestone and through spectacular caves. I ascended the larger waterfall shown in the video and swam about 30 feet into the cave that was the source of the water (I didn't shoot video of this to keep from ruining my iPhone). From the falls, we climbed down to the river and leisurely floated on inner tubes through a limestone gorge (more caves) and thick jungle back to the starting point (also no video... same reason). John, my guide, had a wealth of knowledge about the WWII history of the area... and you'll note he was barefoot.

Solomon Islands: Bopo Falls Hike

On Christmas day, we organised a hike in the morning to the beautiful Bopo falls. It takes a short boat ride and then about an hour's walk (although this depends on your fitness) through the rainforest to reach the falls. The walk is pretty flat so you do not need to be extremely fit but you do cross the river a lot where it is very slippery. Once there you can swim in a plunge pool and relax before you then walk back. I would recommend taking things you are happy to get wet and a dry pair of clothes would help but is not essential.

I left the village out into the sea. Wihaeseoda to scuba diving. Solomon Islands is the world's three diving point, called a paradise for scuba divers. Scuba diving in the Solomon Islands was fresh. Last week also saw a crocodile in the cave. Scuba diving with crocodiles was the first thing. The Solomon Islands is one of the best scuba diving locations done so far. After a brief warm-up and description of tourists get ready for. The god I look. First, wearing a mask, check the respiratory tract. After confirming that there are no obstacles are under when you jump. Except me, all of which are experienced by many people. Fly suddenly scared. I guess there will not go backwards deuleoganeunde not, I actually do not even swim. In addition, there are many scare. Shooting was also coordinating a fairly stuffy look. Hell, I do not know. But soon regaining stability in the water and ready to explore. Ln addition was one of the world ocean. Various coral reefs and tropical fish passes directly in front of my eyes. Uh! That cartoon character, and Nemo! It seems even more deeply for the US military fighter crashed Gaza when the Second World War. Solomon Islands and that there is still a lot of war debris remain ln sea.
