9 Bizarre North Korea Facts →

It was day one in North Korea and I want to show you what it's like to travel as a tourist there. Currently, there are only 4000-5000 tourists per year and I wanted to share this unique experience of arriving to Pyongyang with you.

I was on a guided tour to North Korea with a company called Young Pioneer Tours. You can book here -
(use code JordDPRK for a free T-Shirt).

This video series is NOT a political commentary. It is only meant to document what it’s like to travel to North Korea (DPRK) in 2019.

I can only show you what I am shown myself.

My Daily Life In NORTH KOREA (MYSTERIOUS 7 DAY TRIP)

UPDATE - one year after visiting North Korea I traveled to South Korea and made a video comparing my experiences in both of these two countries. Watch it here: also, if you're thinking of traveling to North Korea yourself, watch this video to see why that might not be a good idea: and think twice before making that decision. Lastly, if you want to learn more about the history of North Korea (in just 4 mins), watch this:

I've always been very interested in North Korea because it seemed to be one of the most unique and mysterious countries in the whole world. This is my day to day life throughout the 7 days that I spent in North Korea. You can never be sure whether things were staged or not in North Korea because you are only shown what they want you to see. You can't choose where or when you will be going to specific places, they simply tell you to hop on a bus and ask you to get off at one point or another.

That is why I didn't want to offer my opinion about whether things were staged or not, whether they were good or not, or honest or not. My goal was to show you what my day to day life looked like when I was there and let you make up your own mind and judge for yourself.

Do not judge North Korea only from what you see in this video. This is what they showed us and there's a reason they show some things and not show the others. Also, knowing how much control they exercise over the population, everything could have been staged only for us.

My favorite books about North Korea:

Dear Leader by Jang Jin Sung -
Escape From Camp 14 by Blaine Harden -
Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick -
1984 by George Orwell (I couldn't believe how similar some things in North Korea looked to the ones in the book) -

Arriving to Pyongyang - First Impressions of North Korea

After arriving to Pyongyang and getting to have a look around the city, here are my first impressions of North Korea. I am basing this off of 3 days of exploring the city and while I got to see a small part of the country, I understand there is a lot more still to see.

A Friend Gets in Trouble with Our Military Tour Guide in North Korea

One of our friends gets in trouble for wandering off, as we tour the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum in Pyongyang, North Korea. This museum is dedicated to the North Korean government's rendition of Korean War.

We had to LIE to make this video! (myths and legends, DPRK vlog, mass games, North Korea)

THIS VIDEO SHOWS ONLY ONLY ONLY WHAT YOU CAN SEE ON A NORMAL TOURIST TOUR IN PYONGYANG!!!

BEFORE leaving aggressive comments, please WATCH the DISCLAIMER:

This video is NOT meant to be a propaganda for the actual regime of the DPRK.
We are NOT communists, nor journalists, we don't make politics and we just show what a normal tourist can see there!!
Due to the contracts we had to sign we could NOT tell anything about the bad things anyone of you might think happen in this country. Which, even if it might be true, we obviously could not see and therefore confirm.

PLEASE RESTRAIN YOURSELF FROM leaving incriminating comments or accusing us of anything!! DPRK is a heavily controlled country and one can not film or go anywhere he wants. This is all what we could and were allowed to film.

Thank you for watching and respecting our work!

ROMANIAN version here:

3 days in North Korea (myths and legends, DPRK vlog, mass games, pyongyang)

Our vlog is not sponored by any government or company.

This movie is just our trip in the DPRK in october 2018, without any intention of supporting or fighting against any regime.

Unfortunately, due to some technical problems, we lost aprox 65% of everything we filmed in the DPRK. From what we could save, from what we had additionally filmed with our phones and from what the other members of the group send us (a big thank to Gwen, Enrique, Chris...) we managed to make this movie.

This is the reason for the low video quality in some parts of the vlog. The other reason is because in North Korea you are not allowed to bring professional video gear like big cameras, stabilisers or drones.

The company we have been with (and can highly recommend): Young Pioneer Tours YPT

Filmed with:

Sony A6500 + OSS 10-15 si OSS 18-105
Iphone XS max
Samsung Galaxy S9+
GoPro Hero6

maps: (c) Google Earth
music: Epidemic Sound

Surreal and WEIRD! Travel in NORTH KOREA ???????? [vlog #2]

Part 2 of 3...We toured some more of Pyongyang, got to experience International Children's Day where we had the chance to interact a little more with the North Koreans – plus a slightly strange experience at a farm, an unusual tour edition (visiting a leisure centre) and finishing up at a ‘local’ brewery where it seemed that absolutely no locals drank!
.
This year I spent 5 days in NORTH KOREA, officially known as The DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) and it was a fascinating and surreal insight into the world’s most isolated country.

We booked onto a tour (the only way tourists can visit North Korea) and set off on a journey that would cover Pyongyang, parts of the countryside and the DMZ border with South Korea.

I'm well aware that we were only shown what they wanted us to see, we had guides with us at all times and weren't allowed to venture off on our own, so these videos are what you'll see as a tourist visiting North Korea. Hopefully I've managed to capture some things you might not have seen before!

My life in North Korea vs South Korea

UPDATE. A year after publishing this video, I decided to make another video that explains why it might not be a good idea to travel to North Korea yourself: I know it's ironic of me to say it as I've been there myself, but please think twice before making that decision. Also, if you want to learn more about the history of North Korea, watch this other video I made that's only 4 minutes long:

Learn how I started traveling full-time at 19:
Catch me and meet me during my travels:
Free $34 AirBnb credit for your next trip:

One year ago I went on a strictly guided 7 day-tour in North Korea where they took away my passport and did not allow me to explore anything on my own. North Korea was definitely the weirdest country I had ever visited and throughout that trip I kept wondering what life was like in the neighboring South Korea, because it used to be the same country just over 60 years ago.

To answer my questions, this year I traveled to South Korea and made this video, where I compare my time in the North and my time in the South. I still have a lot of questions about the whole situation, but one thing was clear - the daily lives of the Korean people couldn't be any more different than they are right now.

My favorite books about North Korea:

Dear Leader by Jang Jin Sung -
Escape From Camp 14 by Blaine Harden -
Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick -
1984 by George Orwell (I couldn't believe how similar some things in North Korea felt to the ones in the book) -

Translation of Kim Il Sung birthplace sign:
Kim Il-sung as the first leader of North Korea over thousands of years of history has been born in this house and had a childhood. When he was a teenager, The leader left home at an early age and rose the highest at the course of revolution. He improved it with new spring of National liberation and reunited with his parents in this legend house. Our Juche’s Sun is rising and Mangyeongdae Kim ll-sung’s birthplace which is historical in spirit of patriotism and revolution for independence through the ages will shine in our history and continue tremendous prosperity.

North Korea Travel Vlog! I spent 4 days in North Korea in 2019, this is what I experienced. Highlights include the Pyongyang metro, the monuments, seeing the country side, driving through the cities and watching the mass games. North Korea is a very closed country and not many western tourists go. This is my very first travel video and everything was shot and edited on an old Samsung galaxy 7, so please have realistic expectations. It’s more about capturing the journey as opposed to cinematic quality. Thanks all for watching my travel channel
