A funny lockdown in the Azores - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.175)

You would almost start to like being in lockdown. After our very blue lockdown in the North Sound of the BVI we sailed for 2 weeks just to end up in another lockdown on the Azores.

As in the BVI we are not allowed to leave the boat at all, but still there's enough to see and Duarte and Filipe from Peter Cafe Sport are really taking very good care of all the sailors halfway their crossing back to Europe.

Still it's a pity that we're not allowed to explore the islands, they are looking very promising. Maybe next time …..

Caught again by Force 10 - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.88)

Crossing from Mljet to Lastovo we get ambushed by a sudden (not-forecasted) thunderstorm with gusts up to 62 knots. Thanks to our previous experience with Flo in episode 16 from Gibraltar to Ibiza we feel comfortable that there's no reason for panic.

Vecht & IJsselmeer on our Rival 34 - part 2 - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.189)

We have a quiet night in Enkhuizen, safely moored to the former Greatcircle. Lovely weather but not too much wind, as we continue to Hoorn and Volendam before heading back to Muiden.

Manoeuvres in Port - Outremer Week - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.191)

Taking hull number 1's spot - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.196)

Being locked down again we watch the launch of Nr.1 live online from our yearly Ameland retreat and see how they move our Nr.4 to the assembly hall.

This version of this episode includes world premiere footage I just received of the AST COAST 340 full carbon dinghy with jockey seat. I haven't even got the specs yet, more to follow in next episode.

Stormy weather to the Azores - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.174)

As soon as we decide to head straight to Horta the forecast changes and we get a bit more waves and wind in our direction than we bargained for.

Especially during night time when you end up in conditions you weren't in before (pretty high waves coming from directly abeam) this feels kind of spooky, when it gets light it all looks a lot better already.
I expect that the boat was a lot less worried than I was.

And yes I know, it's impossible to see how high the waves are on video. According to the US weather organization they were almost twice as high as we experienced in our F10 to Ibiza episode even though the wind was a lot less. We didn't see anything over 42 knots where we sailed, the really strong winds were at least 100 miles north of us at all times.

We're sailing back from the BVI to Holland, via the Acores. Crossing the Atlantic west to east seems to be quite a bit different compared to the one and only ocean crossing we did so far with the ARC last November.

Luckily Tina joins us on this trip on her way back to Sweden and she turns out to be a fantastic help in many areas.

In the background Julia Andrys is guiding us through the different weather systems with daily updates and advice
