I woke up at 5:40 to ride a VTA express bus!
Was it worth it? Dunno...
VTA 0137
(1-7-20) Yes, I actually managed to get a film retrieved from my ride on VTA 0137 on the new 523 rapid along santa Clara. Although in the end, there was a huge buffer:
So, the driver is upset because a reckless biker almost hit us, right. i was not worrisome as this driver would let me take a picture of the front of this bus, right?
Complete opposite. he ran outside and yelled at me for filming. Ever since, this has lead me to one thing. Always be careful when taking photos of buses and any other types of transit, and I encourage you to do the same.
I had to contact the advisor at VTA about that issue, and thankfully, they cleared it out.

Took a ride on the 55 line and decided to get a better Gillig Hybrid video for all my Youtube Fans. A/C was on at first but the lastfew minutes are without the AC
Trying out the new interior bike racks on the VTA 522 bus
After Viva Calle San Jose ( we took the Rapid 522 bus back home. I'd heard about the new buses they were using on this route that include room on the inside for bikes.
I like to be prepared so I tried looking up how the new bikes-on-board worked but I couldn't find any information. It turns out to be pretty straightforward (after we asked the bus driver how it worked).
As you can see in the video we boarded from the back doors and used the Clipper card reader back there to pay our fare. The racks were pretty intuitive--you just roll your bike right onto them until the handle grabs onto your front wheel.
At one point after we got on someone else tried to board with his bike. He went to the back door but the bus driver didn't open them, presumably since the racks in the back were full so the bike rider had to use the bike racks on the front of the bus instead.
When it came time for us to exit the bus we told the bus driver shortly before our stop that was coming up. He probably would have noticed us grabbing our bikes since the bus wasn't too full, but we figured it was better to be safe.
I liked these bike racks. Whenever I've put my bike on the racks on the front of the bus I've felt the need to keep a close eye on them since it would be pretty easy for anyone to grab it. Having the bikes on the bus felt more secure. More importantly it's great having more bike capacity--without these racks the guy who got on with his bike after us would have had to wait for the next bus or hope the bus driver would let him bring his bike on board.
VTA 522 Rapid bus tour - February 16, 2015
A round-trip bus tour group founder Eugene Bradley took on February 16, 2015 (Presidents' Day) aboard the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's 522 Rapid bus line. The round trip was taken between Santa Clara and Palo Alto, The video's purpose is to identify current challenges the 522 Rapid encounters in navigating automobile traffic, The video also propose solutions like having a dedicated bus lane for the 522 Rapid to speed up and make safer for bus passengers along El Camino Real.
As a bicyclist, the dedicated bus lanes can also include buffered lanes allowing bicyclists to safely travel along El Camino Real. As you watch this video, consider this concept as part of a dedicated bus lanes proposal.
Two references Mr. Bradley makes in the video - one defines what a mixed flow traffic lane is. As this stretch of El Camino Real is known as California State Highway 82, it falls under jurisdiction of the State of California via Caltrans - the California Dept. of Transportation.
Also, Mr. Bradley mentions how some shopping centers along El
Camino Real have free parking which diminished transit ridership.
This concept is mentioned in The High Cost of Free Parking by Donald Shoup, available at your local library or bookstore.
