Travel to Saint Martin / Sint Maarten ✈️ Our time in Saint Martin / Sint Maarten continues and today we're exploring more of the island.

We're checking out new areas we haven't been to yet including the capital of the Dutch side, Philipsburg, we also visit the beautiful Orient Beach.
We're back in our rental car to explore more of the island. We first visit Philipsburg. We didn't realize how amazing the beach is here. We also have Dutch Pancakes at Dutch Blonde Beach Bar.
After we head back into the car and go back to the French side where we stop at Rotary Lookout Point for some amazing views. We then head to Orient Beach to spend an afternoon lounging on the beach and swimming in the water.

The tour stopped at multiple places around St. Maarten, including Philipsburg, Oyster Bay, Orient Beach, Grand Case, Marigot, and the world-famous Maho Beach. Maho Beach is known for its location at the end of an airport runway, with the airplanes coming in just overhead. St. Maarten is the smallest landmass shared by two different countries, with one-half of the country (St. Maarten) being Dutch and the other half (St. Martin) being French.

Saint Martin (French: Saint-Martin; Dutch: Sint Maarten) is an island in the northeast Caribbean Sea, approximately 300 km (190 mi) east of Puerto Rico. The 87 square kilometres (34 sq mi) island is divided roughly 60:40 between the French Republic (53 square kilometres (20 sq mi)) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (34 square kilometres (13 sq mi)), but the Dutch part is more populated than the French part. The division dates to 1648. The northern French part comprises the Collectivity of Saint Martin and is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic. As part of France, the French part of the island is also part of the European Union. The southern Dutch part comprises Sint Maarten and is one of four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Netherlands Antilles was a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The country consisted of several island territories located in the Caribbean Sea. The islands were also informally known as the Dutch Antilles.

We sleep in Soufrière, visit the Diamond Waterfalls, hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail and visit the beaches Anse Chastanet, Sugar Beach and Jalousie Plantation Beach. From the west, we drive our small jeep through the rainforest to the south and east, before relaxing at an all-inclusive resort in the north.
This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde and Martinique, Saint Lucia is our fifth destination. I'm Liisu, a 26 year-old doctor from Estonia and in December 2021 I quit my job to travel the world.
St Martin is a paradise island in the Caribbean but surprisingly has been divided into the Dutch and French side which territory-wise is considered European countries' territory. I facilitated an Erasmus+ training course there and could roam the small island in 2 fascinating weeks. The most unique part of the island is Maho beach which is the small beach just before the landing strip.

Fantastic sights, amazing underwater activities, and seriously the best boat crew we've ever met. Captain Brett and first mate Dillon were the perfect mix of fun, safe, helpful, and knowledgeable. Honestly can't think of a better way to spend a day, so be sure to look them up next time you're in St. Maarten ...
