8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]

The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.

After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

6 Best Places To Live Or Retire In Panama

???? If you would like to know more about Panama and the possible places you can move to, sign up for our In Focus: Panama Free E-letter:

Panama has been deemed one of the best retirement destinations for more than 20 years but, where in Panama should you live or retire?

Kathleen and Lief discuss three of the most sought out places to live or retire in Panama and three places you may not have thought of.

00:00 Introduction
???? Most Sought Out Places:
1:00 Panama City: It has many amenities such as restaurants and shopping malls. The city is home to a large community of expats. Note that you'll have a different lifestyle depending on which neighborhood of Panama City you choose.
3:44 City Beaches: They are typically 45 mins to 1 hour away from Panama City. Coronado is a top choice for expats, having many restaurants and shopping places. Buenaventura is another option. Keep in mind, the City Beaches are not the prettiest in Panama.
6:27 Boquete: Has the most established expat community. You could get by without any Spanish. Plus, this mountain town is much cooler compared to Panama.

???? Places You Might Not Have Thought Of:
8:11 Chitré: An inland small town with modern amenities. Chitré is very affordable so it might be a great option if you're on a budget. Plus, the beaches are only 20–30 minutes away.
9:36 Mariato: This is a small town with an expat community of 300–400 people. This is a great option for adventurous expats that like the outdoor lifestyle and want easy access to great surfing beaches.
11:07 Pedasí: This is also a great option if you like to surf. However, it is not as affordable compared to other options. You will find a great community of expats if you move to Pedasí.

ABOUT US:

As the #retirementtravelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become #travelvloggers and start a YouTube channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.

In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.

In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a suitcase and a small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next ten years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

We hope you enjoy the journey with us. Drop us a note in the comments and be sure to hit subscribe! ???? ???? ????

We will be featuring individual stories of people that have immigrated to Panama including their struggles prior to arrival and their thoughts and views on Panama.

We will be covering a multitude of aspects such as the immigration process into Panama, Businesses in Panama, Business Profiles, Rentals, Resorts and Places to stay in Panama, Animals & Plants in Panama, Different Areas in Panama, Building in Panama, Shops in Panama and many more.
Of course this is really the backdrop to our story as we have bought land in Panama and will let you follow us on the entirety of the build and setting up our homestead. Please subscribe and be a part of our journey. We welcome you to send us your story, business info, any videos or media that you may have that we may use in our Channel.
