French Saint Martin: Do the French do it better than the Dutch?

Welcome everybody to French Saint Martin.

French Saint Martin is not only the culinary capital of the Caribbean, but it's also known for its laid-back vibes, diverse culture, pristine beaches, and excellent wine.

We are going to show you why we chose and loved the French side of the island so much and will be coming back.

French Saint Martin differs heavily from Dutch Sint Maarten in its culture. Dutch Sint Maarten seems to focus heavily on the tourist and cruise portion of a person's vacation. Philipsburg is mostly storefronts, with more or less generic tourist-driven food (not bad but not much authentic between very Americanized food). There are ATV rentals that will get you from point A - b. Once you exit Philipsburg, and head more towards SXM, you, of course, have your Yacht Club (great food), a brewery, some cute restaurants, and a downtown def geared for tourists. Many tourists don't head far towards the Dutch/French border so we are not going to focus on those differences.

There is an immediate culture shift once you exit the Dutch side (Sint Maarten). The French side (Saint Martin) almost immediately feels more authentic. The atmosphere changes, the people change, the culture changes. On your way to Grand Case, Saint Martin you will notice a few changes, the scenery and the laid-back vibe. You will also notice more local establishments meant for island people. There's a local nightlife culture that thrives in French Saint Martin.

French Saint Martin is known for their pristine beaches, which do not disappoint. And peppered amounts their pristine beaches, are local lulus for excellent local food as well plenty of delightful french cuisine as well.

Tour Of St. Martin (St. Maarten) / Exploring The Island On Your Own

We recently took a trip to St. Martin it was one of the stops on our Princess Cruise. This country is known for its beautiful unique beaches and has some great shopping areas. St. Martin or St. Maarten, is divided in half with one side being the Dutch side and the other side being the French side. If your cruise port is in Philipsburg, it is located on the Dutch side. We rented a Jeep for the day and toured both sides of the island. We want to give you a look at both St. Martin and St. Maarten to show you what there is to do here, some of our recommendations, and the overall vibe of the island and residents. If you are planning a trip to Saint Martin, or Sint Maarten, then you need to watch this video. There are things you definitely don't want to miss out on and we have a few to show you.

Food Truck Yuminess on St. Martin

Two food trucks you MUST TRY when visiting St. Martin.

Both of these food trucks are exceptional. While La Chingona is more traditional Mexican, Come y Calla is a mashup of Mexican and Caribbean. Like the owner Athena says, it looks Mexican but it tastes Caribbean.

Definitely stop by La Chingona on Tuesdays for their Taco Tuesday special when all their tacos are sold for just $2.

Warning: Once you eat at these food trucks, you will be going back for more time and time again.
