Eating Like Locals in Luang Prabang, LAOS ????????

On our first day in Luang Prabang, Laos we set off to see what the city has to offer! We only recently arrived in Laos by one of the most relaxing modes of travel; the slow boat. You know it’s going to be a great day exploring a new country when you stumble across a place that makes a PERFECT Lao coffee. We see some gorgeous sights (in the immense sunny heat) and cool off with delicious local Lao food dishes & local beer - which took us by surprise! We can’t wait to see what else Luang Prabang, and Laos as a whole, have to offer!

Street Food in Luang Prabang - WILD GRILLED BEE HONEY COMB! | Morning Market Lao Food Tour!

►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:
►T-shirts and caps available now:

Luang Prabang is an amazing historical city in Laos, and it also happens to be an amazing city for food. You’ll find an array of incredible Lao food to experience.

Morning Market - One of the best places to get started eating Lao street food in Luang Prabang is the morning market. It’s low-key, relaxing, the vendors are incredibly friendly, and there’s so much delicious food to try. From wild grilled beehive to khao piak sen noodles, the food is so good, it’s hard to ever go anywhere else when you’re in Luang Prabang. The food highlight for me was the grilled honey comb, since it was so rare and unique. Additionally, you’ll have a blast checking out all the ingredient at the market. Here’s what I ate:

Grilled beehive - 5,000 LAK ($0.60)
Mung bean cake - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 2
Naem
Khao gee - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 3
Noodle rolls - 10,000 LAK ($1.20
Khao piak sen - 15,000 LAK ($1.80) per bowl

Phosi Market - One of the biggest markets in Luang Prabang is Phosi Market. Unfortunately there wasn’t much pre-cooked food when we went there in the middle of the day, but luckily we found some amazing food.

Sai oua - Sai oua is the northern Laos version of sausage, and it’s a life-changer. This stall served some of the best sausage, not only that I’ve had in Laos, but in the world. You’ll find sai oua all over Luang Prabang. Price - 10,000 LAK ($1.20) each

Sticky rice feast - I desperately wanted a Luang Prabang sticky rice meal for lunch, so eventually after walking around a little we found the perfect spot. She had a variety of different Lao food stews to choose from and they all look great. All the dishes were delicious, but the best Lao food of the meal for me was the bowl of aw bon (or bon) - made from taro leaves.
Total price - 40,000 LAK ($4.79)

Finally, for dinner to finish off this Luang Prabang street food tour, we headed to the evening market, located perpendicular to the night market walking street. We ordered a Mekong fish and then some very interesting Lao dishes from the curry stall. The algae salad was particularly interesting and delicious.
Fish - 80,000 LAK ($9.58), farmed fish were considerably cheaper
Dinner total - 60,000 LAK ($7.18)

It was an amazing day exploring Lao street food in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a food paradise.

LAOS STREET FOOD ???????? Epic Morning Market Breakfast Tour in Luang Prabang with @2Feet1Camera

A massive thank you to Nishi for his incredible video work and Kissa for showing me the street food!

Today I’m back in Luang Prabang, Laos and I’ve got a full morning eating Lao Street food with at the famous morning market

First we grabbed some sai ua at a famous stall at the market. I for some reason said kwang (deer) instead of Buffalo (Kwai) in the video when he’d just told me it was Buffalo!

Next up we headed for Khao Piak (jok/rice congee) opposite the market entrance.
Our last food stop was at the most famous Lao Khao Soi shop in Luang Prabang. The soup was excellent but not quite as good as my favourite which I get in my next video!

We finished up at Saffron, which is one of the most popular coffee shops in Luang Prabang.

I’m so happy to finally be back in Luang Prabang, it’s such a special place to us. If you want to know what Laos looks like in 2022, make sure to subscribe and look out for my upcoming videos.

GOURMET French Food in Laos - BUFFALO STEAK TARTARE at L'Elephant in Luang Prabang!

►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:
►T-shirts and caps available now:

Laos has a long history with France, and for that reason, you’ll find a lot of French food restaurants throughout the main cities like Vientiane and Luang Prabang. In Luang Prabang, L'Elephant Restaurant is one of the most renowned high end French restaurants in the city.

What I liked and the reason I wanted to try L'Elephant Restaurant when I was in Luang Prabang is mainly because they use mostly local Laos ingredients, but French cooking techniques. So I made a reservation.

L'Elephant Restaurant - Located in a classic yellow building just a few steps from the Mekong River, L'Elephant Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant. They do have both French food and Lao food on their menu, but I decided to keep the dishes pretty French and the ingredients Laos.

Buffalo steak tartare - This was the first dish I for sure was going to order, and I think it’s one of their best dishes. The buffalo was chopped, mixed with egg, pickles, and capers. It was every bit as good as I thought it was going to be.

Wild boar terrine - This was something I sort of ordered and didn’t know what it was. A terrine is a kind of meat loaf, sort of like pate but different. This one was seasoned with some cognac as well. It was ok, but not my favorite dish of the meal.

Chef salad - The chef salad at L'Elephant Restaurant is amazing, full of their garden grown vegetables.

Flemish buffalo carbonade with Beerlao - Seeing that Beerlao was used in this dish, I had to try it out. The stew was excellent, with just a scent of beerlao - I think.

Mekong fish stew - Finally the last French food we tried was the Mekong fish stew - nuggets of Mekong fish, in a mustard butter white sauce. The fish melted in your mouth, it was so good.

L'Elephant Restaurant is an elegant French food restaurant in Luang Prabang, Laos. I thought the dishes could have been a little bigger, but the taste and quality were both excellent.

Total price - 690,000 LAK ($82.61)

THIS is the Night Market to visit for Laos Street Food! ????????

If you're in Vientiane, Laos and looking for an exciting culinary adventure on a budget, be sure to visit the night street food market. For only 100,000 LAK, you can sample a wide variety of local and new foods, including traditional dishes like sticky rice and homemade pork jerky. This is the perfect opportunity for foodies to immerse themselves in the flavors and culture of Laos.

In this Laos Travel Vlog we try Laos Street Food for the first time, including plenty of Laos Traditional Food.
Street Food from Laos will really surprise you! It was so cheap and tasty, honestly I don’t think I’ve had as much value from a night market as I did in this one - and I’ve been to a LOT of them!

In this one, I went to a VERY local market and tried some Laos classics, before checking out the tourist market after.

When you're visiting Luang Prabang, it is really easy to stick to the city center. There is so much to do and see there but if you have the time come outside and explore the outskirts of the city. Right now we're going across a bamboo bridge and we're going to see what is on the other side. Lead the way.

THINGS TO DO IN LUANG PRABANG | Southeast Asia Travel Guide

Because this is a very small city it is really easy to find yourself in the countryside. That's exactly what we've been doing just wandering down rural areas and we even found a dog to join us for the walk.

Now we are up bright and early for a biking tour around the city. We picked up these bikes for 20,000 Kip, which is $2.50 USD and we have them for the day, so we're going to be cycling around. Let's see what we find.

Luang Prabang is very pedestrian friendly. In fact, there are so many different little back-alleys and lanes to explore that it is just a great idea to wander about without any sense of direction.

There are some fantastic views in this city so one of our recommendations is to enjoy a meal by the river, which is what we're doing tonight.

Another thing you'll want to do when you're in Luang Prabang is to visit all of the temples around the city. This morning we're visiting Wat Xieng Thong and it is one of the main temples in Luang Prabang. It is also known as the Golden City Temple and it really has some impressive glass mosaics. You'll want to wander around and take some photos.

It is 20,000 Kip to enter which is $2.50 USD and like most places it is good to come early because it starts to get busy during the middle of the day.

Now it is time for us to get a little bit of exercise. We're going to climb up 328 steps up Mount Phou si which is more like a hill for the best views of Luang Prabang.

Admission to reach the top of this mountain is 20,000 Kip which is again is $2.50 USD. It is kind of cool going up because you go up one way and then you come down the other side of the mountain so you get to see different views along the way.

This is the dipping platter. This over here is a coriander pickle. Next we have an eggplant dip. A tomato dip. We have paste made from buffalo skin.

I'm going to unveil our steamed fish, which comes wrapped in banana leaf. It is called Mok Pa.

And when the sun goes down it is time to go shopping. We're at the tourist night market and we're picking up souvenirs.

If there is one thing that Luang Prabang is known for is for its Almsgiving which happens every morning at six AM.

This is where monks collect alms of rice from kneeling locals and tourists.

If you love to eat like we do then you can't leave Luang Prabang without taking a cooking class. Today we're at the Phou si market and we're picking up ingredients before we start preparing our food.

Not much sugar in Lao cooking like in Thai food. When you taste Thai food you taste milky and creamy and sweet things because they add lots of coconut milk and lots of sugar. That is why their food tastes like that. Laos food is different. Lao food tastes lots of herbs and lots of texture. This is Lao food.

Here we have our buffalo salad. We stir friend some buffalo meat and we also added beansprouts and there is banana flowers. We have string beans, hot chilies and mint leaves. We're going to be rolling this up in lettuce leaves. It is kind of like a little fresh roll:

LUANG PRABANG IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED CITY (and so budget friendly!)

I can't believe more people aren't talking about how incredible Luang Prabang is! This is absolutely one of my favorite small cities in all of South East Asia and is by far one of the most inexpensive places that I've been to. From it's beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, to its dozens of gorgeous Buddhist Temples, to the stunning nature surrounding it, Luang Prabang should definitely be on your travel bucket list. Laos on a whole is not at all as touristy as neighboring Vietnam and Thailand and definitely has a lot to offer. Let me know in the comments if you have here before and what your experience was!
