Street Food in Malaysia - ULTIMATE MALAYSIAN FOOD in Kuala Lumpur!

Thanks to Oh My Media:

T-shirts and caps:

Huge thank you to Fadhlur for reaching out and taking us on a Malaysian street food tour of Kuala Lumpur. It was an amazing day, and I have so much love to Malaysia as it was one of the first countries where I started making street food videos - as you’ll see in the video!

Ok, here are all the street food stalls and restaurants we ate at on this tour:

Mansion Tea Stall
The thing to order here is the roti canai special, roti that chopped up, then doused in a variety of curry sauces, sambal, and a few soft boiled eggs. It’s a perfect way to begin your day in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 2.80 RM ($0.68) per plate

Nasi Lemak Tanglin
Nasi lemak is often considered the national food of Malaysia, and there are plenty of places to eat it throughout Kuala Lumpur. Having been around since 1948, Nasi Lemak Tanglin is a place I had wanted to go for a while. It was overall very good, with a nice laid back atmosphere and surrounded by nature. Nasi lemak - about 8 RM ($1.94) per plate

Ikan Bakar Seri Melaka (Jalan Bellamy)
One of my favorite places to eat ikan bakar, grilled fish, is on Jalan Bellamy. Back in 2012, I had to hike over a highway and climb a few fences to get there as I was only on foot. In this video, I’m a bit older, and we had a car! The ikan bakar was just as good as I remember it. Total price - 68 RM ($16.51) for everything

Sri Ganapathi Mess
One of the best things about Malaysian food is its incredible diversity, including Malay, Chinese, and Indian food. Banana leaf south Indian food is very popular and I was recommended to try Sri Ganapathi Mess, a restaurant tucked away into a home. An amazing south Indian food experience in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 59 RM ($14.32) for 4 people

Kedai Kopi Lai Foong
Finally, another dish that many had recommended me was the unique clam noodles in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown at the legendary Kedai Kopi Lai Foong. It was delicious, and a perfect way to end an amazing Malaysian street food tour in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 10 RM ($2.43) per bowl

Again, thank you to Oh My Media Malaysia for taking us around:

Big Fish Head Curry Tour - MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Watch more Malaysian food videos:
Subscribe for 2 new videos every week
T-shirts and caps:

I’ve always loved curry and I’ve always loved fish heads, so fish head curry would naturally be one of my favorite foods to eat - there’s nothing not to like about digging out little bits of fish from all the crevices, while sucking up all the curry sauces.

We checking out three different fish head restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, each serving a totally different style of fish head.

Annuar's Fish Head Curry:
One of the most legendary Malaysian street food stalls in Kuala Lumpur is Annuar's Fish Head Curry, also known as the Bangsar fish head corner. Mr. Annuar is an amazing hard working man who has been selling his south Indian Muslim style fish head curry for a long time and has a loyal following. He’s also known for his affordable prices and his fried chicken. The staff were all incredible nice, and their fish head was amazing. I also especially loved the fried chicken with the fish head curry sauce on top. Mr. Annuar would not charge us for our meal, thank you!

Tugu View Cafe:
Next we went to Tugu View Cafe, an amazing local Malay food restaurant on top of a hill in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, although it felt like you were in the middle of a mountain park. They serve all sorts of Malaysian food, but their most famous dish is their Malay style fish head curry. We met the chef of the curry, and I just asked him to choose us the largest size which happened to be a 120 RM fish head! Most of the others were 45 - 65 RM! This was probably the best fish head curry for me of this entire Malaysian food fish head curry tour. The complexity of flavor and the ingredients blew me away.
Total price - 144 RM ($35)

Restoran Mun Kee Steam Fish Head:
Finally to end this fish head curry tour, we went to a Chinese restaurant. So this wasn’t actually a fish head curry, but a steamed Chinese style fish head. They gave us not only the head, but really the entire body minus the tail. It was delicious, perfectly steamed with wonderfully fragrant ginger, and it was a perfect fish to end the meal with.
Total price - 98 RM ($23.80)

This was an amazing fish head curry Malaysian food tour in Kuala Lumpur!

Street Food in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at Jalan Petaling Street Night Market in Chinatown Travel Food Video Transcript:

Welcome to Chinatown! Yeah, so we're in Kuala Lumpur in Chinatown. This is where we're staying. Yes. We're hungry. We're craving some street food and this is just the place to check it out. Yeah, so today we're going to be eating along Jalan Petaling (茨厂街). Yeah, Petaling Night Market Street (茨廠街). Yeah, lots of food here and it is already busy. The sun has gone down so let's go get started.

Food time.

Okay, so we walked out of the hotel and we found. We found something right away. Oh yeah. It is claypot chicken rice and it looks so good from across the street. It is cooking right behind us. Literally right behind us. It looks so good. We can't wait for it to arrive. In the meantime you've got yourself a local iced tea. Ice tea. It is so hot out.

I tried a little bit of it already. It is quite sweet.

Alright, the claypot chicken rice (砂煲鸡饭) is here. Check it out. It is served in like this claypot itself so I'm being very careful not to touch it because I have a feeling this would burn.

So there you go. It is a huge portion. I'm glad we ordered just one. There is no way I could eat all of that. I have to say the aroma. The smell coming out of there is it just smells amazing. I don't know how it is going to taste but it just smells so good.

So we just popped in to a food centre here in the heart of Chinatown and we are ordering more food. We are having fried char kway teow (炒粿條 - 炒粿条) and this is a noodle dish that is cooked at really high heat. Apparently, Sam ordered two different types of noodles so it is going to be a mix of thin noodles and really thick noodles. Um, and yeah it is cooked with soy sauce, chili, chives, beansprouts and we'll see what else is in there once the food actually arrives.

So here we are enjoying some juice. Freshly pressed sugarcane juice.

Wow. Is that good?

Yeah. Naturally sweet?

I love the name of these. We have wife cake (老婆餅 - 老婆饼) and husband we have husband cake (老公饼).

So Sam here is going to sample a wife cake (老婆餅 - 老婆饼). A wife cake. And I believe there is melon inside of it.

I'm just going to take an enormous bite. So it looks like a golden puff pastry. Mmm. Oh it looks flaky too.

Mmmm.

Yeah. You can taste that melon.

Really flaky on the outside. It is kind of sweet but not that sweet.

Okay. This is our last snack of the night. Absolute last. And yeah, I was pretty much already full and I'm like okay I'll try one more thing.

So we're getting a small little ice cream.

Red bean coconut milk ice cream. It was only 2 Ringgit. So like something like 40 cents. So cheap.

You taste the coconut milk and you do taste the red bean as well. As you would expect.

Food adventures over!

Woah. Alright, so we've been at the market for about an hour and a half. Yeah. I don't know if you can see but we are glistening right now. Like there is some serious glow happening. Yeah. I don't know if that is like the meat sweats or just the temperature or the two things combined. I'm pretty sure it is both.

Anyways, calling that a night here from Kuala Lumpur. Yeah. Definitely, definitely if you're visiting this city get in to the street food. It is fantastic and it is cheap and it is fun. It is a great way to spend a night out. Yeah, and we'll see you with more food videos soon.

This is part of our Travel in Malaysia video series showcasing Malaysian food, Malaysian culture and Malaysian cuisine.

The Best Street Food in Kuala Lumpur! - The Best Satay in the World!

Malaysian cuisine combines the best of all Asian cuisines to create some of the world’s most delicious dishes. If you love street food and don't mind the hustle and bustle of hawker stalls, you should definitely explore the famous Jalan Alor Food Street. Located in Kuala Lumpur's busy shopping district Bukit Bintang, these permanent hawker stalls serve amazing Malaysian, Thai and Chinese street food.

If you're feeling peckish, try some Bakkwa - Chinese style jerky or some grilled skewers with all kinds of meat including frog. If you're feeling really hungry, order some of the best satay in the world or have a seafood feast. For dessert try the Putu Bambu, a sweet green cake made of palm sugar and coconut that is steamed inside little bamboo shoots. If you're feeling adventurous try the durian, a fruit notorious for its strong smell but sweet flesh. It's all here in our latest episode of Hawker Style, our original travel videos series exploring street food from across the globe.

The MOST INSANE Street Food in Thailand!

Most unbelievable Thai street food in Bangkok!
►Watch GIANT Tom Yum:
►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:
►T-shirts and caps available now:

Talad Rot Fai (ตลาดนัดรถไฟ), also known as the Train night market in Bangkok, or Talad Rot Fai in Thai, is one of the most popular night markets in Bangkok - this branch located at Ratchada. Here’s a map link:

By the way, this is Part 2 of this Night Market Thai street food tour. You can watch the gigantic tom yum challenge here:

The market is known for its unique Thai street food, some of the snacks and dishes which are invented there and you won’t find anywhere else in Bangkok.

Laeng Saeb (เล้งแซ่บ) at Diaw Maekhlong Restaurant (ร้านเตี๋ยวแม่กลอง) - Laeng saeb, a dish of pork bones and ridiculous amounts of green chilies is one of the most popular Thai street food inventions at Talad Rot Fai, and this is mainly what I came to eat. The restaurant is located at the back of the market, and they have a few different sizes you can choose from.

XXL Laeng Saeb (เล้งแซ่บ) - Price - 599 THB ($18.96) - We went straight for the XXL size, a massive platter of pork bones, soup, insane amounts of green chilies and the soup broth. Of all the Thai street food I’ve eaten, this is one of the most unbelievable and insanely giant street foods of Thailand I’ve ever seen or eaten. Although it’s way more than I ever care to eat again in one sitting, it’s actually a really good dish.

Crispy butter (เนยกรอบ) - 35 THB ($1.11)
Stir fried ice cream (ไอติมผัด) - 69 THB ($2.18)
Coconut shake (น้ำมะพร้าวปั่น) - 35 THB ($1.11)

And that completed this Thai street food night market tour of Talad Rot Fai. It’s well worth a visit, and you can of course, order smaller sizes of laeng saeb when you’re in Bangkok. Enjoy!

???? You'll Love This Video Next -

PHUKET, THAILAND - Welcome to Phuket, an island in southern Thailand and a superb place to visit if you love food! Today I’m going to take you on a Thai street food Michelin guide tour of Phuket. We’ll be eating at four different street food stalls which were all featured in the Thailand Michelin Guide of Phuket. I hope you’re hungry, let’s start eating! #Phuket #StreetFood #MichelinGuide

Roti Taew Nam (โรตีแถวน้ำ) - First up on this Thai street food tour in Phuket, you’ll need to start your morning off right - and that means some of the greatest egg roti ever. Roti Taew Nam (โรตีแถวน้ำ) is a legendary spot, serving some of the crispiest roti you’ll ever have, along with a variety of Southern Thai curries. It’s incredibly delicious. Total price - 320 THB ($10.64) for everything

Chuan Chim (ชวนชิม) - Next up for an early lunch we’re going to eat at Chuan Chim (ชวนชิม), a restaurant that serves stir fried dishes made to order. It’s a type of restaurant where you can order and Thai or Thai Chinese dish, and it will be delicious. One of their signature dishes is their pad kaprao - your choice of meat with holy basil. What blew me away is how “wok” smoky every dish is. Total price - 360 THB ($11.97) for everything

Go La Hokkien Fried Noodle โกลา หมี่ฮกเกี้ยน (เจ้าเก่า) - A Thai Chinese noodle dish classic that you’ll find in Southern Thailand as well as Malaysia and Singapore is Hokkien mee. Go La Hokkien Fried Noodle โกลา หมี่ฮกเกี้ยน (เจ้าเก่า) is a legendary spot and has perfected their recipes - the reason why they are rightfully included in the Thai street food Michelin Guide. Price - 60 THB ($1.99) per bowl

O Tao Bang Niao (โอวต้าว บางเหนียว) - Finally to finish this Thai street food tour in Phuket, we’re going to O Tao Bang Niao (โอวต้าว บางเหนียว) to eat a dish called o tao, a Phuket speciality of seafood, batter, cubes of taro, garlic, chili, and plenty of lard to make things crispy. It’s kind of like a Phuket special version of an oyster omelet. It’s honestly not my favorite thing to eat in Phuket, but it’s something you should try because it’s only available in Phuket. Price - 70 THB ($2.33) for the seafood version

And that wraps up this Thai street food Michelin guide tour of Phuket. Enjoy the delicious food!

Thank you for watching and hope you’re having a fantastic day!
