How to Shoot 35mm Film (Story 1)

Film Camera: Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1.4 Canon lens -- FujiColor Superia 200
Video Camera: Canon 5D3 with a 35mm Summicron F2 (1970) Leica lens

This is our first STORY in our new Snippet/Story style and we are so very excited to share it with you.

This week we tried to weave the beautiful experience of film photography with a bit of a how-to-video with the hopes of inspiring you to get out and capture your environment.

The entire experience of shooting film from choosing your film stock, to manually loading the film, to the sexy sound of winding the film after each photo, well it all just begs you to slow down, to focus on the moment at hand, and take it all in and then... the most important part... to stay present. No checking how the photo turned out, no re-taking the selfie, not even the need to see how many likes it got. Nope, a film camera gives you the luxury of hoping that you captured the moment and letting that be enough.

And while I can go on and on about the lessons that film has already taught me - and this was just my first roll ! - the main thing that making this story taught me is how lucky I am to have a partner as patient and thoughtful as Lou! His work ethic is unlike anyone I have ever met and the passion he pours into creating these beautiful moments each week never ceases to amaze me.

I'm grateful for this week's video for reminding me of time spent: hanging at second hand camera stores, capturing special moments with dear friends, and enjoying perfect moments of summer when you feel surrounded by love.

TOPIC OF THIS VIDEO:
In this video I am showing you 5 creative GoPro Hero 9 photography ideas:

GoPro Hero 9 Ping Pong Photo:
To get a very special GoPro Hero 9 ping pong photo you need to tape the ball to your racket. Move your racket with the ball as close as possible to your GoPro Hero 9 and take every 5 seconds a time lapse photo. That's important to get the raw file, so you can edit the colors better.

GoPro Hero 9 Air Walk Photo:
Put your GoPro Hero 9 below any object you could stand on. Put one foot in the air, right above the lens and take every 5 seconds a time lapse photo. This GoPro Hero 9 photography trick works best in forests, as you have a really nice perspective of all the trees.

GoPro Hero 9 Selfie Stick Photo:
For this GoPro Hero 9 photography idea you need a very long selfie stick. Extend it fully and take every 5 seconds a time lapse photo. Edit the colors in Lightroom and that's it.

GoPro Hero 9 Jump Photo:
For this photography idea you need to change the settings on your GoPro Hero 9 to the burst mode with 25 photos per second. Jump in front of your camera and choose a GoPro Hero 9 photo where you are in the air. Edit the colors to make the photo look more dramatic and then you have a GoPro Hero 9 photo, where it looks like as if you are floating in the air.

GoPro Hero 9 Vlog Photo:
This GoPro Hero 9 photography idea is great for a vloggers. Mount your GoPro Hero 9 on your selfie stick where you have mounted your other GoPro - in my case the GoPro Hero 8 - and take again every 5 seconds a time lapse photo with your GoPro Hero 9.

TOPIC OF THIS VIDEO:
In this video I am going to show you 5 tips, how you can make more cinematic GoPro videos with your GoPro Hero 8:

1. Settings:
It is important to have the right settings if you want your GoPro Hero 8 footage to look cinematic. I quickly show you how to set your camera up. If you want to know that more detailed, then watch this video, which is about cinematic settings for the GoPro Hero 8:

2. Camera Moves
Your GoPro Hero 8 videos will look much more cinematic if you have different type of shots in it. Usually I filmed with my GoPro Hero 8 just straight and the shots looked always great. But if you take your GoPro and you add to your shots different camera moves, your final edit of the cinematic GoPro video will look much better. I show you an example in this video.

3. Stop & Go
The GoPro Hero 8 has a new feature called Time Warp 2.0. With this updated Time Warp you can now stop your video to film in normal speed with one click, and then change back again to a Time Warp. If you know how to use this new feature of the GoPro Hero 8 you can make your GoPro videos look more cinematic.

4. Transitions
Transitions are an important thing in cinematic GoPro (Hero 8) videos. I show you one example of a very easy transition you can do with any camera. If you would like to learn more GoPro (Hero 8) transitions you can watch this playlist where I have a lot of new GoPro transitions for you, so you can make more cinematic GoPro videos:

5. Instagram
I have been asked a lot, how I export my GoPro (Hero 8) videos for instagram, because they always look great. That's why I quickly show you my exact export settings, so you can just copy them to be able to upload as well high quality cinematic GoPro Hero 8 videos on Instagram.
