Kyiv, also spelled Kiev, is the capital and most populous city of Ukraine. It is in north-central Ukraine along the Dnieper River. During its history, Kyiv, one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, passed through several stages of prominence and obscurity. The city probably existed as a commercial center as early as the 5th century. A Slavic settlement on the great trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, Kyiv was a tributary of the Khazars, until its capture by the Varangians (Vikings) in the mid-9th century.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and Ukrainian independence in 1991, Kyiv remained Ukraine's capital and experienced a steady influx of ethnic Ukrainian migrants from other regions of the country. During the country's transformation to a market economy and electoral democracy, Kyiv has continued to be Ukraine's largest and wealthiest city.
After UEFA Euro 2012, the city became the most popular destination for European tourists. A record number of 1.8 million foreign tourists was registered then along with about 2.5 million domestic tourists. More than 850,000 foreign tourists visited Kyiv in the first half of 2018, as compared to 660,000 tourists over the same period in 2013.

Kyiv (also Kiev and Ukrainian: Київ) is the largest city and capital of the Ukraine. The city is one of the oldest in Europe with a long history.
We walked in Kyiv on the main street at centre ( ) - today's tour explores another area of the central city.
We at the Maidan, the Independence Square in the center at the The Founders of Kyiv Monument (Пам'ятник засновникам Києва). We take one tunnel under the Khreschatyk and walk West and uphill first to the St. Sophia's Cathedral and then to the St. Michael's Bell Tower and monastery.
We have a look around before we head to the park area of Volodymyrska Hill. We see the Friendship of Nations Arch and walk back to Khreschatyk and the Maidan, where we end this tour.

Walking Tour Kiev Ukraine | Kyiv 4K
Kiev (also Kyiv and Ukrainian: Київ) is the largest city and capital of Ukraine. As one of the oldest cities in Europe it has a rich history. Today's walk starts after some summer rain at the Maidan, the Independence Square in the center.
The inner city is dominated by Soviet style architecture along the main street Khreshchatyk. We walk along this famous street with many shops and restaurants until the entertainment center Arena. From there we head to the sports stadium Palats Sportu and continue on the Tarasa Shevchenko Boulevard. Walking uphill we see the Kiev Opera House and also visit the St. Volodymyr's Cathedral.
In general, the best time to visit Kyiv 4K or Ukraine is either side of summer in May-June or September. Temperatures are comfortable, sightseeing is less crowded and there are fewer holiday makers flocking to the Black Sea beach resorts around Odessa.

Kyiv (also Kiev and Ukrainian: Київ) is the largest city and capital of the Ukraine. The city is one of the oldest in Europe with a long history.
We at the Maidan, the Independence Square in the center at the The Founders of Kyiv Monument (Пам'ятник засновникам Києва). We take one tunnel under the Khreschatyk and walk West and uphill first to the St. Sophia's Cathedral and then to the St. Michael's Bell Tower and monastery.
We have a look around before we head to the park area of Volodymyrska Hill. We see the Friendship of Nations Arch and walk back to Khreschatyk and the Maidan, where we end this tour.
