Aber das heißt es nicht, dass es keine Inseln gibt :) Ganz im Süden des Landes tun sich die sogenannten 4000 Islands auf, eine Inselgruppe inmitten des mächtigen Mekong. We think this is the best chill budget destination in 2023. Today we are exploring our first place in Laos, Don Det & Don Khon in the 4000 Islands! We quickly realize this is both the chillest and cheapest place we have ever travelled to. So get ready for some great cheap food, riding bicycles through the country side, swimming in the Mekong, visiting waterfalls and hanging out with Buffalo and friends. It's gonna be a chill day.

Here, we embraced the art of slowing down, basking in the simple pleasures of relaxation and taking in the present moment.
Picture yourself immersed in breathtaking nature, surrounded by the gentle whispers of the Mekong Delta. We spent our days exploring the island on bicycles, discovering hidden corners and picturesque landscapes. It was a chance to disconnect from the fast pace of life and reconnect with ourselves and the essence of pure bliss.
As we bid farewell to Laos, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect finale. The 4000 Islands, or Si Phan Don, offered us a peaceful sanctuary before we crossed the border into Cambodia. We'll forever cherish the memories of this idyllic destination and the priceless lessons it taught us about the beauty of simplicity.

Don Det is for chilling! When visiting Don Det & Don Khon, we discovered that it's relaxing there very fast. Renting a bike for 1€ and bungalows for 8€ was a pleasant surprise. If you visit Don Khon, you can see some Somphamit waterfalls. If you have some extra time you should also go to see the river dolphins.
4000 Islands are definitely the most relaxed place in Laos

A place where time just slows down! 4000 islands consists of hammocks, sunset swims, bicycles and a cheap cost of living. Don Det and Don Khon are the main islands in this archipelago on the Mekong River and it is a place for lazy exploring or do nothing at all. Southeast Asias biggest waterfall just happens to be here too!

Don Det is an Island part of the 400 islands Archipelago, in the middle of the Mekong River, and it’s THE CHEAPEST PLACE you can find in Laos !

We arrived in Nakasong by motorbike, we loaded it on a small boat and we sailed to Don Det.
Don Det is connected to the bigger island of Don Khon by a bridge, and it’s a perfect place to chase waterfalls, tubing, swim in the Mekong river , watch dolphins and have amazing FOOD FOR FEW DOLLARS.

4000 Islands: Paradise in Don Det - Vlog 16
In December 2019, I was solo backpacking to South Laos, specifically the 4000 Islands. And I found paradise! On the island of Don Det, I wrote and danced and napped and talked to people from all over the world!
In my 6 months of travelling, this was the most serene and peaceful place I had ever seen. Take me back please!
