Solomon Island Yachter's Travel Guide - What to do in the Solomon Islands

A scattered archipelago of about 1,000 mountainous islands and low-lying coral atolls with scenic land and water adventure is what best describes Solomon Island. You can now decide to experience a totally original and authentic culture by traveling to the Solomon Islands.

It's more than just learning about the amazing cultural legacy. You will also get to explore the depths of the blue-green ocean in search of World War two artifacts. Plus, with a population of just over 2,000 people, you will feel like you have plenty of space to explore.

So if you are ready to take a trip of a lifetime, then I see no reason why you shouldn't opt for a yacht cruise on Solomon Island.

Crossing from Australia to Louisiades and Solomon islands [part 1]

It's finally time for us to sail across the coral sea and the solomon sea. It's our first passage, so quite scary, but we feel prepared... Or do we? With strong winds and waves up to 6m on a beam reach, not sure that anyone can claimed to be prepared!

Add to that seasickness and all the issues that we didn't plan for, and you end up with something very scary. You just go across the barrier reef and suddenly think, how about we stay there instead? Beautiful water, lots of fish, sun, etc. Do we really need more? Do we really need to go crazy and cross an ocean?

Find out what happened, and if we ever made it across!

The Cave of the Custom Shark - Part 3

Munda, Solomon Islands

Part 1 -
Part 2 -

To reach The Cave of the Custom Shark we had to walk through mangroves. The cave entrance is a pool of fresh water about 2 meters wide. The top layer of fresh water is somewhat murky and about 3 meters deep. After penetrating the cave for about 12 minutes and reaching a maximum depth of 35 meters, we reached the outer wall of the island.

This is a short clip of the dive.

According to Munda Dive, As the story goes, a long time ago there was a young man from Saekile Village hunting turtles. He spotted a couple of turtles and dove into the water, attempting to make a catch. The turtle he was holding dove deep and took him to the entrance of the cave. There a large shark attacked the turtle and the man released the floundering turtle and soon grabbed onto the shark. The shark then took him through the cave and eventually up to the entrance on the island. The young man's friends thought he was dead. Greatly saddened, they returned to the village with the news of their friend's untimely death. For ten days this young man lived on the island before he was discovered by his tribe. He relayed his unlikely tale and the villagers immediately returned to the cave to find the shark. They believed the shark to be the spirit of their ancestors. From that time on, the shark would take them on rides through the cave and they would feed the shark in return.
