As long as you can follow a few simple mandatory rules, then you will have no issues while in North Korea. In this video, I explain what are the 3 golden rules that anyone must obey (and respect) should they decide to visit the most isolated country in the world - NORTH KOREA.

Why I Cried After Leaving North Korea #86

I Just Got Banned From North Korea

North Korea is the most isolated and interesting country in the world. I had the chance to visit Pyongyang for 3 nights, 4 days back in April 2017 - and shortly after I left, Americans became banned from visiting. To this day, I think that I'm one of the last dozen Americans to step foot in North Korea, and I'm glad that I'm here to tell the stories. In this video, I share 4 reasons why I will never go back to North Korea.

Just out of curiosity - have you ever been there, or are you planning to go (if you don't hold a U.S. passport?) Let me know in the comments down below!

North Korea FACTS: 5 things YOU CAN'T DO or must do

5 unusual rules that a tourist strictly has to follow if going to North Korea. Based on my own experience on my trip in April 2017. How does NK look like from the other side? I will show the contrast with the Chinese bordering city at the end of the video. DON'T MISS IT!

I entered the country with a Spanish passport (note: US passports are not allowed). I was a bit nervous the days previous to the trip, but I haven't felt either fear or danger inside North Korea. There's no danger for a tourist if one complies with all the rules (as it is stated in the Travel Agreements).
There had only been tense feelings at the Mausoleum. Nervousness for the possibility of doing a mistake by accident, and not complying with the strict rules properly.

Here’s a recap of the 105th Anniversary trip:

RESOURCES
· The last update on South and North Korea agreements (as of Dec. 2021)
· Kumsunsan Palace of the Sun comprehensive photo album (all Mauloleum pictures in the video are not mine)

· Books that arose my curiosity before going to the DPRK:
- Nothing to Envy: Real lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick:
- The Girl with Seven Names: Escape from North Korea by Hyenseo Lee:
- Without You, There Is No Us: My secret life teaching the sons of North Korea’s elite by Suki Kim:
- In Order To Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park:
She also has a YT channel Voice of North Korea by Yeonmi Park:

A must watch Documentary:
- The Mole: Undercover in North Korea

In today's video, I share my honest thoughts with you about North Korea after 4 years since my visit... I didn't mention in the video that I am one of the very last Americans to step foot in the country because a few months after I left, all Americans were banned from visiting (which is still in effect today).

I often think about North Korea and I wanted to take this time to re-tell my story, share my thoughts, and also get some feedback from you. What are your opinions about North Korea? Would you ever visit North Korea?

SHOCKING Reasons You Should NEVER Visit North Korea!

SHOCKING Reasons You Should NEVER Visit North Korea!

Welcome back to Around The Globe, today on the channel we are revealing Why You Should Never Visit North Korea. North Korea requires that you join a government-sanctioned tour, where you will be accompanied by a guide at all times. These tours are heavily monitored, and you will not be permitted to wander off and explore sites on your own. All of your interactions with civilians, if any, will always be shadowed by your guide. Going against the established rules in a tour can put you and your guide’s life in grave danger. If you are caught doing something illegal, your guide may be accused of being a co-conspirator by “helping” you spy on the country. For this act of treason, he or she will be imprisoned. Therefore, if you find the restriction of movement in a pre-planned tour suffocating or troublesome, you may want to visit another destination instead of North Korea.

In North Korea you can not speak about any religious beliefs or demonstrate your faith by handing out religious materials to anyone in the DPRK. Christianity, for example, is prohibited to the point where being caught with a Bible means that you will face imprisonment, torture, or execution. By contrast, past and current leaders are elevated to godlike status in North Korea. Please continue watching the video for more information Why You Should Never Visit North Korea.

5 Things You Can’t Do in North Korea

5 Things You CAN’T do in North Korea

Today, we venture into the world's most secretive country, North Korea, to unravel the restrictions that starkly differentiate it from Western societies.

Disrespecting the Leadership: Imagine having to revere your leaders like deities. In North Korea, the Kim dynasty isn't merely respected, they're revered. Criticizing or even casually disrespecting Kim Jong-un or his predecessors is a severe crime. Misstep as simple as mishandling a newspaper with Kim's picture can invite stringent punishment.

Unauthorized Communication with the Outside World: In the West, freedom of speech and communication is a fundamental right. In North Korea, however, it's a different story. The state exercises rigid control over all forms of communication. Unauthorized phone calls, clandestine internet access, or merely tuning in to foreign radio broadcasts can lead to severe consequences.

Unauthorized Photography or Filming: Ever posted a candid shot or an impromptu video on your socials? That's an unthinkable act in North Korea. The government strictly controls what images or narratives of the country reach the outside world. Unsanctioned photography, especially of military installations or anything deemed to tarnish North Korea's image, could land you in serious trouble.

Unauthorized Travel: Forget about impromptu road trips or solitary exploration. In North Korea, travel is closely monitored and controlled. Straying from the approved routes or venturing out without the accompaniment of a guide could easily lead to arrest and severe punishment.

Religious Proselytizing: In the West, you're free to practice and propagate your religious beliefs. North Korea, however, is an officially atheist state. Any form of religious proselytizing is strictly forbidden. Merely carrying religious materials, discussing religion, or attempting to spread religious beliefs could invite harsh punishment, including imprisonment or execution.

Remember, while these restrictions might seem shocking to Western sensibilities, they are part of North Korean life. When visiting, respect local customs and laws, however different or stringent they may seem. Stay tuned to Expat+ for more insights into the world's diverse cultures and societies.
