Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. THE SWC300 - SCOTLANDS SECRET NC500 ALTERNATIVE - (Van Life Scotland)
SCOTLANDS SECRET ALTERNATIVE TO NC500 - (so good we almost didn't tell you!) Van Life UK.
If you have ever considered Van Life in Scotland then you will almost certainly have heard of the NC500. It's a beautiful route that runs around Scotlands north coast, however, if you've heard of it then so has everyone else!
Every year it gets packed with vans and motorhomes to the point where the remote route simply can't cope. The locals are getting understandably frustrated, park ups are overflowing, single track roads get grid locked and there simply aren't the services to always handle it.
BUT, what if there was an alternative route? Over the last 3 weeks we have been exploring the lesser known South west coast and it's SWC300 route. This coastal route and its inland forests and lochs is a real secret gem up here in Scotland (and it's not the only undiscovered part either).
In fact, it's so pretty and welcoming to vans and campers that we almost probably shouldn't share it with you. The scenery is amazing and wild camping is more than tolerated and its a real unexplored part of the beautiful Scottish wilderness.
Perhaps, if everyone spread out a little in Scotland and didn't always follow the crowd, maybe, van life in Scotland might just stay accessable?
In this video we share our thoughts of this Scottish tourist route, when to visit and when not to visit and what you can expect from this area.

How NOT to VAN LIFE in a STORM - a terrible place to park (then an epic one) Van Life Scotland.
This week, after all the delays and problems we have had so far on this Scottish road trip, we finally make it to the coast.. for about 5 minutes!
This is van life in pretty extreme bad weather and as the storm gets way worse than was forecast, we are forced to abandon our park up and head inland!
Once the storm clears though, we get back on the SWC300 route and continue to explore Scotlands south west coast, and my word do we find an epic park up! We wild camp at a lighthouse, with 360 degree views and, with it being a dark sky park we are treated to some great views of the stars in the night sky!

Last week we drove our new tiny home on wheels north to begin putting our off-grid capabilities to the test. So, naturally ????, we decided that for our second trip in the van we ought to put the capacity limits to the test too. While our 170 sprinter van has seemed like plenty of room (almost too much room!) for the two of us, this week will prove just how comfy the new layout is when we add a 3rd human and a medium-sized dog!!! We all travel towards Tobermory and Manitoulin Island (living, traveling, sleeping, cooking & POOPING ???? in 1 van). Could you live in such tight quarters with two other people and a dog?!

After a long 4 months of this VAN LIFE BUILD project we finally have enough electricity, water and other essentials in place to put our new tiny home on wheels to the off-grid test. We head 4 hours north of Toronto to explore some of Canada's most stunning wilderness with one of our very best friend's Lee and her dog Occy! The adventure begins with a hike along the Bruce Peninsula at Lion's Head where we get lost and nearly don't make it back to camp! Luckily the @Vanwives were there to save the day ???? . Join us in part one of this mini series as we take on the epic NC500 road trip through the Scottish Highlands. After catching up with friends & family on our return from Morocco we were itching to get back out on a proper adventure & Scotland has just that in store for us.
In this week’s episode we start out from Inverness, heading across to the west coast. We dive right into nature at the spectacular Rogie Falls before taking on the notorious Bealach Na Ba Mountain Pass & make it to Applecross just in time for a tasty pub grub lunch.
We find some amazing park ups, spend the night by the serene Loch Maree & go on an early morning hike in the gorgeous Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve. Then head up around the coast to the most magical sunset scenes. You really will have to see it to believe it.

3 PEOPLE LIVING IN A VAN || Scotland Road Trip || NC500
Our incredible road trip around Scotland continues as we finish the last leg of the amazing NC500. We put full time van life to the test by welcoming our good friend Martyna to join us on this amazing Scottish road trip. We see if it's possible to have 3 people living together in van. We start this leg of the journey in Thurso on the north coast of Scotland before heading west to find one of Scotlands best van life park-ups. We first explore the amazing Ceannabeinne Beach then take a short drive round the coast to Britain's biggest cave (Smoo Cave). Smoo Cave is a must see location on any NC500 road trip.
While it might be easy to plan a road trip, you can't plan the Scottish weather. Our plans to visit Sandwood Bay get put on hold as we get battered by the relentless wind and rain that this part of Scotland is famous for.
Saldy we had to say goodbye to our friend in Ullapool and then we head north again to enjoy a few more days in the mountains. We end this week's vlog by exploring an incredible waterfall called The Wailing Widow Falls.

Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy.
