3 Dudes Lost in Minsk | BELARUS FOOD & TRAVEL VLOG (Менск / Минск)

Minsk is still one of the least visited capital cities in Europe. We didn’t know much about it before arriving and that is exactly why it was so interesting to travel there. Nothing more exciting than heading into the unknown, right?
Minsk is a big city, streets are super wide, there are lots of huge squares, architecture is absolutely majestic and the food was pretty good too. So what are you waiting for, visit Minsk NOW!

We did this trip in July, 2019.

Lost In No-Lockdown Minsk ????????

???????? 'Would I like to go and visit an abandoned Soviet pioneer camp?' my friend Niall asked me. Well what a daft question. Of course I would! And so we set off across no lockdown Minsk in search of a bus out of town and ended up completely lost. But that's a good thing because it meant we met some random Belarusians on the streets of the capitol including a certain famous actor...

???????? MINSK, BELARUS | Europe's Most UNDERRATED City? | MINSK First Impressions

*I have a new WEBSITE! Head over to for Travel, Digital Nomad and Teaching blog posts incorporating video, text and photography, purchase my Teaching Online Ebooks (also at take advantage of my affiliates and even book an English lesson with me at ???????? MINSK, BELARUS - Welcome back! If you saw the last video, you'll know I ended up stranded in Sweden after leaving Serbia (due to the global pandemic). I had to find a new place to live. That place was Minsk, the capital of Belarus!

I had always planned to visit Minsk for a brief visit. Previously, I had been to other ex-Soviet countries such as Kazakhstan, Kygryzstan, Moldova and Ukraine so I was excited to see what Belarus had to offer. Many have preconceptions of ex-Soviet countries that they are a) Russia and b) grey and miserable, full of Soviet architecture.

In this video I cover some of my first impressions of Minsk in relation to architecture and people as well as checking out some of the sights such as the Bolshoi Theatre, the National Library and even the former home of Lee Harvey Oswald. But the main message of the video is around hope, We are all in a difficult place due to the pandemic. We have to have hope that we will get out the other side.

An important note - at the time of filming there were no restrictions in relation to quarantine, lockdown or self isolating. The only recommendation is social distancing. Despite this, I am generally home 6 days out of 7 working with one trip to the shop or a short walk every day. I get that many of you are in quarantine but felt it was important to show some normality and hope in my videos!

MUSIC - (all Epidemic Sound)
Gold Among the Sand - Trevor Kowalski (intro and outro)
Light Em Up - Daniel Gunnarsson (Minsk montage)
Wide Eyes - Tape Machines (connecting montages)

African polyglot blown away by Belarusian banya / ENG subs

Elie Mubenga, a citizen of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, came to Belarusian town of Navapolatsk to learn the Russian language. He is a true polyglot; he speaks seven languages and is passionate about Belarusian flowers.

The guy dreamt of visiting Belarusian banya (sauna), but the Navapolatsk public bath house turned out to be closed... Having learned that Elie's birthday was coming soon, our crew decided to spring a surprise on him. They covered 200 kilometres taking Elie to Vileyka Reservoir where a festival of mobile bath was being held.

How does a mobile bath work in the woods? How did the guest from Africa feel in the steam room? Where did a professional bathhouse attendant hone his French? Find the answers in Episode 7 of Welcome To Belarus!

Belarus (/bɛləˈruːs/; Belarusian: Беларусь, IPA: [bʲɛlaˈrusʲ]), officially the Republic of Belarus (Belarusian: Рэспубліка Беларусь, Russian: Республика Беларусь), formerly known by its Russian name Byelorussia or Belorussia (Russian: Белоруссия), is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. Its capital and most populous city is Minsk. Over 40% of its 207,600 square kilometres (80,200 sq mi) is forested. Its major economic sectors are service industries and manufacturing. Until the 20th century, different states at various times controlled the lands of modern-day Belarus, including the Principality of Polotsk (11th to 14th centuries), the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Russian Empire.

In the aftermath of the 1917 Russian Revolution, Belarus declared independence as the Belarusian People's Republic, which was conquered by Soviet Russia. The Socialist Soviet Republic of Byelorussia became a founding constituent republic of the Soviet Union in 1922 and was renamed as the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (Byelorussian SSR). Belarus lost almost half of its territory to Poland after the Polish–Soviet War of 1919–1921. Much of the borders of Belarus took their modern shape in 1939, when some lands of the Second Polish Republic were reintegrated into it after the Soviet invasion of Poland, and were finalized after World War II. During WWII, military operations devastated Belarus, which lost about a quarter of its population and half of its economic resources. The republic was redeveloped in the post-war years. In 1945 the Byelorussian SSR became a founding member of the United Nations, along with the Soviet Union and the Ukrainian SSR. The parliament of the republic proclaimed the sovereignty of Belarus on 27 July 1990, and during the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Belarus declared independence on 25 August 1991. In 2000, Belarus and Russia signed a treaty for greater cooperation, forming the Union State.

???????? MINSK, BELARUS | The Most COLOURFUL City in Europe? | MASSIVE Street Art in MINSK!

This time in Minsk we head out on an extremely blustery day to go from the ordinary to the extaordinary. Minsk is grey and miserable? I don't think so.

We start off in a regular, normal residential area checking out some khrushchyovkas, residential buildings built after World War very common in ex-Soviet countries. We then brighten things up a bit by heading to the awesome Gorky Park before finshing off at the extremely colourful Oktyabrskaya Street, well known for it's GINORMOUS murals and street art (some say the biggest in the WORLD - SHOCKED right? LOL).

But the main theme of this video is all of feeling pretty grey and crap in the midst of the current global pandemic. It's time to not rest on your laurels and think of how you can develop yourself. Thing's will get brighter! (see what Ii did there?)

MUSIC - (all Epidemic Sound)
Back to the Wild - Pastis (intro)
Soundbath - Bullpoint (Tractor factory and street art)
Landslide - Martin Hall (Gorky Park and outro)

Minsk Victory day May 9th 2020. - Парад 9 Мая 2020. Минск. Беларусь. 75 лет Победы

Belarus truly is a beautiful country. I had previously read its a dictatorship like north korea, its unsafe and no modern amenities. This is all totally not true. I have been to Minsk myself and seen that this truly is a beautiful country, I never felt so safe in any other city in the world and the people are good, very kind and hospitable. Belarus is a beautiful country and thanks for watching my video!

Visiting Victory Square in Minsk (Explore Belarus)

Victory Square is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the capital of Belarus, Minsk.
At its center is a monument commemorating the victory of the Great Patriotic war against the German occupation in WW2.
Belarus suffered a massive amount of horrors during the years from 1941 to 1945, and the people of Belarus are, rightfully, proud of efforts they put into fighting for their liberation.

This pride is very easy to see in this spot, where the memory is kept alive for everyone to see.

Join me in checking out the square!
