When I was in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), along with eating as much Vietnamese food as I could, one of my goals was to film a travel video about some of the best things to do in Saigon. After putting together a complete list, it turned out to be 23, and I hope this list of attractions will help and inspire you to visit Vietnam’s largest and most exciting city.

1. Binh Tay Market - Binh Tay Market is one of the largest wholesale distribution markets, and a perfect place to go if you’re looking to go shopping in Ho Chi Minh City.
2. Thien Hau Temple (Pagoda) - Located in Chinatown, in District 5, the temple is dedicated to Thien Hau and I really loved the sculptures and the elaborate design of the temple.
3. Museum of Ho Chi Minh City - This museum offers a glimpse into the history and development of the city and Vietnam.
4. Bitexco Financial Tower - This is the tallest building in Saigon, and you can either go to the Skydeck or a cafe at the top for a view of the city.
5. Independence Palace (Reunification Palace) - Probably one of the most well known tourism things to do in Saigon is to visit the Independence Palace, the the former home of the president of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
6. Saigon Cathedral of Notre Dame - With the French influence in Vietnam, the Notre Dame cathedral is a beautiful Catholic church. Attend a service or just visit.
7. Central Post Office - Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh City is an attraction mainly for its design and architecture. It’s a beautiful building.
8. War Remnants Museum - Although this is not one of the happiest attractions in Saigon, it’s a place to remember and honor the horrible events that are a result of a war.
9. Opera House - Right in Dong Khoi area, and there are still opera shows available.
10. Dong Khoi Street - This is the height of high end shopping in Saigon.
11. Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens - The zoo itself is not too great, but the beauty of the Saigon zoo is the botanical gardens, and the lush gardens, and taking a break from the city.
12. FITO Museum (Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine) - I was quite impressed by the Vietnamese medicine private museum - very interactive and educational.
13. San Art Laboratory – If you love modern art, the San Art Laboratory is a great place to see and visit in Saigon.
14. Turtle Lake at Night - If you’re looking for some things to do at night in Saigon, head to Turtle Lake to chill out, relax, hang out with friends, and eat snacks.
15. Ben Thanh Market - One of the most famous things to do in Saigon District 1 is visit the Ben Thanh Market, one of the major central landmarks of the city.
16. Phu My Hung and Starlight Bridge - Located outside of central Ho Chi Minh City, Phu My Hung is a modern development, and a great place to walk around.
17. Water Puppet Show - Though originally from the north of Vietnam, water puppet shows are popular also in Saigon. I went to the Golden Dragon Water Puppet theater.
18. Museum of Vietnamese History - Probably one of the most extensive and important museum showing the history of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.
19. Rooftop Bar - Seeing Saigon from above offers a great perspective.
20. Fine Arts Museum - This was my favorite of all the museums in Saigon. The museum is housed in a well preserved building, and the art is amazing - located right in District 1 across the roundabout from Ben Thanh Market.
21. Jade Emperor Pagoda - Dedicated to the Jade Emperor, the pagoda has a real ancient feel to it, and it’s worth seeing when you visit.
22. Local Wet Market - One of my favorite things to do is visit a local fresh wet market, which you’ll find all over the city. The ingredients, food, and culture, all stand out at fresh markets.
23. Vietnamese Street Food - By my ultimate favorite activity in Saigon is eating street food, and there are an abundance of delicious Vietnamese street foods to sample.

Thank you for watching this video about the top 23 things to do in Saigon, Vietnam. I hope it has given you some great ideas to help you plan your visit.

Top 11 Things to do in SAIGON (Ho Chi Minh) VIETNAM

We went back to one of our favourite countries in the world - Vietnam! Last year we traveled through North and Central Vietnam, but this time round we visited the South, Saigon aka Ho Chi Minh.

3. A O SHOW (SAIGON OPERA HOUSE)
If you enjoy theater productions filled with culture, acrobatics and traditional live music then visiting the Saigon Opera House in Ho Chi Minh to watch the A O Show will be right up your alley.

You're not allowed to take photos or video the performance but we reached out to the team and were granted a special backstage sneak peak for our channel (with permission to film) before watching the full performance that night. Make sure you check when the sessions are beforehand. You can pick up your tickets from the Saigon Opera House rather than buy it online too.

1) Buy Quirky Travel Souvenirs

Vietnam has more quirky travel souvenirs than just about any other country I've ever visited. From Weasel coffee (that's been pooped out) to snake wine this nation has it all. Come home armed with presents that will either shock or make your friends laugh out loud.

2) Visit the War Remnants Museum

The War Remnants museum is the most somber attraction on this list. The war itself was full of atrocities on both sides (although this museum is from the perspective of the north); however, it's the gallery focused on 'agent orange' that really caught our attention.

3) Wander around Thien Hau Pagoda

This fascinating Buddhist temple is dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea. In the past, people came here to pray for a safe trip before embarking on a journey out to sea. These days it's noteworthy for its incense burning and coils.

4) Binh Tay Market

If you're looking to brush elbows with locals (and tourists) head over to Binh Tay Market for all of the mayhem you can handle. If this place doesn't sell what you're looking for it's unlikely to exist anywhere else on earth.

5) Marvel at the Reunification Palace

The former Presidential Palace (now called the Reunification Palace) was once home to the President of South Vietnam. In April, 1975 this all changed when tanks from the north crashed through the gates. The premises have been left to look exactly the way it did many decades ago.

6) Visit Notre Dame Cathedral

This stunning Cathedral is a significant landmark in Saigon. Built with red bricks it really stands out and is right beside the General Post Office. Come on Sunday and you'll be treated to mass.

7) Check out the General Post Office

Last but certainly not least, make sure to check out the General Post Office. Designed by Gustave Eiffel (that guy who built the Eiffel Tower) when Vietnam was under control of French Indochina, its got a classic timeless appeal:

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM | 15 UNIQUE THINGS TO DO + PHU QUOC ISLAND

This video captures our month of living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and includes a guide of things to do in Ho Chi Minh City.

Please leave a comment below and subscribe to our channel! We love hearing which parts of the video stood out to you.

Our friends Charlie, Conner, and Matt met up with us for a few weeks in Ho Chi Minh City, and we all took a weekend trip to Phu Quoc Island. Phu Quoc is actually off the coast of Cambodia, in the Gulf of Thailand… but is a Vietnamese Island! On top of that, it’s really pronounced (Foo-Quop) ????????‍♂️

This island turned into much more of an adventure than we imagined. While it is fairly underdeveloped, it created an opportunity for us to see Vietnamese culture up close.

Our apartment for the month in Ho Chi Minh was directly off of Bui Vien Walking Street, one of the most famous streets in Vietnam.

The bars and clubs blast music (louder than enjoyable) until 4 am every night, but the city view from our rooftop and proximity to every cool area in Ho Chi Minh was well worth it.

In a lot of the transitional clips you can notice the craziness of Ho Chi Minh City traffic, thanks to its endless motorbikes and lack of traffic laws.

Bikes are constantly using the sidewalks, and more than most places in the world, you really have to pay attention while exploring the city on foot. However, I will say that the bikes do an outstanding job of dodging pedestrians!

Bui Vien walking street was literally outside our building. We were also about a four minute walk from Central Market, an eight minute walk from Ben Thanh Market, and a fifteen minute walk from Nguyen Hue Street featuring the Cafe Apartment building.

Than Dinh Church (also known as the pink church) and Dam Sen water park were some of the further day trips from our apartment, but still were really easy to reach with public transportation.

We do want to mention that Dam Sen water park was truly a hilarious experience. First, never have we been the only people at a public water park to speak english, and NEVER have we been down body slides that got your heart pumping like these ones did.

We truly stepped back a few decades and experienced the thrill of old, non-reassuring water slides haha! Even the little things like the water park cafe basically only selling full chicken thighs and rice gave us a reminder to enjoy the present moment, because this was one of the most unique experiences we have ever had.

There are numerous locations featured in this video that didn’t make our actual list of 15 unique things to do. They include Tippy’s Mexican Food, Swenson’s, The Hungry Pig, Ho Chi Minh City Hall, Nguyen Hue Street, a few temples, and Ho Chi Minh Tower! We recommend adding all of these things to your list as well if you are visiting Ho Chi Minh City.

The parks throughout Ho Chi Minh City were likely our favorite. Turtle Lake is a park more than a lake, considering you don’t swim in it! But it was a really cool roundabout in the middle of the busy city, and it was fun to hangout and take videos and pictures there while walking on the connecting platforms over the water.

Tan Dao Park was our true favorite though, and it was huge! Right in the middle of hustle and bustle, it somehow felt like an escape to nature. It is clear how well maintained and preserved it is, as some of the trees are hundreds of years old. There is walking paths, sport courts, a wide diversity of flowers and birds, Vietnamese statues, and an overall zen vibe.

Remember, Ho Chi Minh City is home to almost 10 MILLION people. There is no shortage of things to do. The best strategy going into a trip here is to do some research and build your own list of what you wish to see, but also just do A LOT of walking, and you will stumble across unique people watching opportunities and random things to do almost every block.

Hopefully this video can help people add a few things to their Ho Chi Minh City travel list, and give some perspective on what day to day life looks like in the city.

Lastly, we must say that Vietnamese food is delectable! We lived off of Vietnamese street food for many of our days, often spending less than $5 for both of us to eat dinner. Prioritize your own version of a Vietnamese food tour, and don’t be afraid to try things you otherwise wouldn’t have. Our favorites were many variations of Banh Mi and Vietnamese Pho.

Living in Ho Chi Minh City was amazing. Next we head to Northern Vietnam for some truly unique adventures!
