2020 DBBB Part 3 - Furnace-Pilot Road

In part 3 we follow the Furnace-Pilot road with some good obstacles. There is a fork in the road and we first go left, The trail has some deep ruts and Marc's Jeep gets stuck. After recovering Marc's Jeep and putting a new brake drop hose onto Jim's Jeep we take the fork right, only to find a downed tree across the trail. Justus takes the track around the downed tree but slides off the trail into the forest. Jim tries the same route and slides into the forest too! We spend the rest of the afternoon recovering Jim and Justus, only to find more trees down further along the trail. Disappointed that we could not finish Furnace-Pilot road we turn around and head home.

Hitting A New Trail on The DBBB That Was Definitely More Than We Bargained For!

On this episode I take my mom along to the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway Spring Event presented by Dan Cummins Off-road.

This event has been held in the Spring and Fall as an effort to raise money to support efforts to clean, maintain and expand over 100 miles of trails in five counties throughout Eastern Kentucky in the Red River Gorge.

Due to lack of funds many of these county roads have not been used in over 100 years!!

These trails are moderately difficult and require high clearance 4WD vehicles.

Be sure to give the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway a follow on FB or visit their website Ridethedbbb.org

We take in Parts of the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway

We visited NE Kentucky in the fall to explore the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway (DBBB), Red River Gorge and Bourbon Country. On the way, we took a side trip to Cumberland Falls. The DBBB and Red River Gorge are awesome. Bourbon country is amazing, even if you don’t drink, for the history and architecture. Cumberland Falls is awesome as well. Check out the links below for more information on these places.

Kentucky Adventure Tour | Furnace-Pilot Road, Fixer Road, and other Off-Road and Overland Trails

We made it to Kentucky in our Chevy Colorado ZR2 AEV Bison!! Our overlanding journey started early in the morning at the northern point of the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway near Callie's Campground. We set off in a counterclockwise direction. Our plan was to spend two days in Kentucky off-roading, wheeling, crossing streams and rivers, and doing some general adventuring.

We would end up doing a little more than 100 miles on this first day. We transitioned from the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway to the Kentucky Adventure Tour. In some places they do overlap, but the start of our journey was on the DBBB. We hit some great spots like Furnace-Pilot Road, Watson's Ridge Road, Patsey Road, Red's Hollow Road, we passed Hollerwood Off-Road Park, Fixer Road, drove through Beatyville, Spencer Ridge Road, CR1241, Turkey Foot Road, Hard 2, and we ended this day at the S-Tree Campground.

It was really wild to get into some different terrain. The winding mountain roads, the gravel going up elevation and then back down into the valleys, and the rocky, rutted trails. We saw and marked spots for tent camping, car camping, and other areas of interest. It was a super scenic ride. We saw abandoned industry like mines and oil derricks. There were a lot of pipes and things running along the streams. I was curious f there were any good fish. In some places, I would not think so.

All in all this was a super fun ride. I would much rather do it with a group, because there are things best shared! Check out our video, like it, and subscribe to our channel!!!!

2020 DBBB Part 2 - Spaas creek and Pumpkin hollow

In part 2 we hit the trails after hard rain all night. The creek was flooded and we had multiple river crossings and lots of water to navigate. Jim's fan made contact with his fan shroud and we had to remove the fan shroud on the side of the trail. We end the day with a braai (or BBQ) of white tail deer.

2006 Mozambique

In 2006 we took a December vacation to Mozambique. We did not have access to Video recorders to document our trip, so this video is a compilation of photos from that trip. We do apologize for the poor audio quality.

5 Things I Love About My Jeep Cherokee(KL) Trailhawk!

I thought this would be a fun video to do and will have to say I did enjoy thinking through what all I really like about my 2015 KL Trailhawk. A couple things I could have mentioned that I really like are the true 4X4 Low range. It's doesn't use the transmission to just gear it down but actually locks into 4X4. Also the rear locking differential can come in really useful and both of these are things that only the Cherokee Trailhawk, in it's class, has. I also really have fun with the different drive modes. All in all their is a lot to like about the KL Trailhawk.

Thanks for watching and if you haven't already then I hope you consider Subscribing!
