2019 World Series of Poker: The Polar Bear Returns

It has been several years since we have seen a polar bear in Day 3 of an event. In 2017 we saw Brandon Shack-Harris playing in this costume and now in 2019 his buddy Eric Rodawig is carrying on the tradition in the same event . $1500 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or better.
Both players are members of a home game community including the likes of bracelet winner and musician Steve Albini. Part of their game has evolved into a poker clothing line featuring nittykitty and this year Rodawig speaks about the release of the next incarnation of Nitty Kitty, Run it Twice Mice. Groudle Glen and Drive along Douglas Prom - March 2020 - Isle of Man

Groudle Glen and Sea Lion Rock

The terminus is situated some three-quarters of a mile away from the other end of the line. It opened as the outer terminus of the line in 1896, at which point the building was erected including tea rooms, bake house, fish store and seasonal living quarters for the staff. The zoo, created in the adjacent cove, had been a feature from 1893 and was the reason for the building of the line. The station closed at the outbreak of the Second World War; although the railway reopened in 1950, a landslip during the war years prevented the line being re-opened this far, and it was not until the restored line was extended in 1992 that the station re-opened, later receiving a replica station building in 2000

The zoo that the station was built to serve pre-dates the railway by three years, having been established in 1893. A rocky inlet was dammed off to create a living environment for sea lions, and cages were constructed to house polar bears; and it was these attractions that gave the railway's locomotives their names. The zoo remained popular until the outbreak of the First World War when the zoo closed for the duration. When reopened in 1920 the polar bears were no longer a feature, but the sea lions survived until the complex closed at the end of the 1939 season, never to reopen.

Sea Lion Cove
At various points during the zoo's life there were also brown bear cubs (which for a small fee could be taken for a walk around the cliffs), and an aviary with tropical birds, and it has also been reported that there were penguins, though no evidence has come to light to support this. The remains of the complex are still visible today. The site was used during the filming of an episode from the first series of the popular television drama Lovejoy in 1986 entitled Friends, Romans & Enemies. Today there are several images and displays in the nearby visitor centre and tea rooms which illustrate the zoo when it was open.

2019 World Series of Poker News: They Hurt The Equity of the Game

2018 Player of the Year Shaun Deeb is the chip leader coming into Day 4 of the Event #35: $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship. WSOP Player of the Year and four-time WSOP bracelet winner Shaun Deeb finished Day 3 with 2,601,000 in chips and if a decision wasn't made to end the day early, he was the favorite to collect his fifth WSOP bracelet.

The decision to end Day 3 early was met with backlash from some, and joy from others. The WSOP staff ruled that because players were told earlier that play would end at six, instead of continuing to play the scheduled seven levels, play would end for the day unless there was a unanimous vote. Friedman and Michael McKenna voted to end for the day, while Deeb, Matt Glantz, and David Moskowitz opposed.

Deeb explains how this decision, Hurt Integrity and Equity of the Tournament and was primarily an opportunity for the players with less experience in the game he started calling to go home and study.

News from the 2019 World Series of Poker: June 16

Welcome to your update from June 16th, the 19th day of the 50th annual world series of poker at the Rio all suite hotel and casino.

Two bracelets were awarded yesterday and one of them came in an event that started a week ago!

Event #26: $2,620 No-Limit Hold'em Marathon Jared Koppel, came into the day as the overwhelming chip leader but the heads-up battle was nothing short of exciting. The pendulum swung back and forth multiple times and both players had their opponent on the brink of elimination.Ultimately Russian online poker pro Roman Korenev captured his first WSOP gold bracelet and a payday of more than $477K.

On the other side of the amazon Chants of “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” filled the space in the early morning hours as Event #33: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw came to a conclusion after almost ten hour-long levels. Robert Campbell bested a field of 467 to take home a prize of $144K.

Today the 1k Seniors event will come to a close. What started as five thousand nine hundred and sixteen players is now just 19. Last night play was meant to stop at 6 players but after 10 hours of play there were still 19 left in content for the top prize of more than six hundred sixty two k up top I for one can’t wait to get my AARP card.

Event 34 the $1k Double Stack attracted a whopping field of six thousand two hundred and fourteen entries creating a top prize of almost six hundred and eighty eight k. With more than two thousand three hundred and twenty seven players left there is still a a lot of play to be had and with players like Ari Engel, Scott Clements, Diogo Viega Antoine Saout with leading chip stacks we are definitely going to keep our eyes on this tournament.

The $10k Delaers Choice always attracts the cream of the poker crop so to speak and returns today with 11 such players battling it out for the bracelet and more than $300K. Adam Friendman is looking to make history as he attempts to win this event back to back and confirm himself and one of the most versatile players in the game. Other players still in the mix include Fan fav Nick Schulman, the controversial 2018 Player of the year Shaun Deeb as well as Matt Glantz.

The $3k Shootout is definitely a unique and popular tournament with a format that plays out as a series of Sit and Gos until you are left with only one man standing. Three hundred and thirteen players were spread over 40 tables and in the end some of pokers biggest names were left standing including Byron Kaverman, Justin Bonomo, Kristen Bicknell and Andrew “Lucky Chewy” Lichtenberger. Round two will kick off today at 2pm.

We had another 10am start this morning courtesy of the $800 Deepstack event that already has at least a thousand entries but the entries are coming so fast we can barely keep up. But as always as the information comes in from the WSOP the PokerNews audience will be the first to know.

In addition to the low buy in, deep stack tournaments that are sprinkled throughout the 2019 schedule, another type of tournament that is relatively unique to be seen so frequently on the 2019 schedule, an online tournament will be starting its first day today. The tournament begins at 3:30pm local time and late reg will be open until 7:15pm. It is a No Limit Hold Em Knockout Bounty so if you are in Nevada, you can win a WSOP bracelet from the comfort of you own home.
If you are going to be in town on June 30th, be sure to check out the All IN for CP charity poker tournament at the Aria sponsored by the One Step Closer Foundation.

News From the 2019 World Series of Poker: June 17

Welcome to your update from June 17th at the 50th annual World Series of Poker from City of Sin, Sun and Poker, Las Vegas Nevada. This is what you need to know.
Two bracelets were awarded yesterday and one of them…well…we aren’t even sure if he was wearing pants. Upeshka De Silva shipped Event #38: WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold'em Knockout Bounty. You will probably recognize that name as he just final tabled the 3k 6 max a few days ago. He already has two other bracelets so this will be the third bracelet to add to his collection and since he collected a whopping 18 bounties he added more than a hundred K to his bank account.

The other bracelet top play down to a winner yesterday was the 1k seniors event which was meant to start the day with 6, but ended up with 19. After fourteen hours of play Howard Mash, a financial advisor from Florida, pulled all the chips his way and admitted that while he is an amateur and considers poker a hobby, it is a hobby he takes seriously. And with almost three hundred and twenty K in prior winnings, his story checks out.

Eyes were glued to the $10K dealers choice yesterday, but players were less than thrilled when play stopped at just 5 players. if a decision wasn't made to end the day early, Shaun Deeb was the favorite to collect his fifth WSOP bracelet. He is still the man to catch with the chip lead but Adam Friedman is right behind him and has strong motivation as he is looking to win this event for the 2nd time in a row. That being said, Shaun Deeb is looking to become the back to back player of the year and he revealed the early stop put him in a bad position for that.

One of my favorite tournament formats is in round 3 today with 10 players left and everyone in the money. Event #36: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’Em Shootout Has some of pokers finest in the mix and should be very exciting to watch. Justin Bonomo, Lucky Chewy and Alexandru Papazian are all still in the mix. Have a look at the table draw and follow the action with no delay hand for hand on pokernews.com

Event #34: $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold'em is returning today, day 3, with three hundred and fifty nine player of the starting field of six thousand two hundred and fourteen! There is almost seven hundred thousand dollars up top so if there was ever a questions as to the popularity of the low buy in, deep stack events, this should confirm…yep, keep em coming.

Another tourney with the same concept is the $800 Deepstack, that field returns for its Day 2 today and will have more than the usual amount of attention since some of the players sitting down including Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth and Kelly Minkin.

In case the Seniors didn’t get enough the first time around, starting today there is a $1k Super Seniors event for one more shot at a bracelet in a non-open event, the only difference is, these players must be at least 60.

If you are interested in a game of Pot Limit Omaha, today marks the beginning of Event #40: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha which is sure to attract some of the lovers of this poker variant.

If you are looking for a fun event to round out your summer schedule the PokerNews Podcast family is hosting an event on July 8 at the Planet Hollywood where you will get the opportunity to mix and mingle with fans and hosts alike.

Mountaineering in Svalbard with James Lam : TPZ 137

Cultural Storytelling - the Worst Journey in the World

What is it about?
If you long for some travel this year, why don't you join us for the most miserable, horrible and gruesome journey in the world?
We will divide into two teams, one going to the Arctic (5 years with unnavigable terrain to prove an idea), the other going to the Antarctic (3 years with unbelievably cold temperature to collect an egg).
Agenda below
Arctic vs. Antarctic trivia
Survival skill training
The real journey: let us re-live two real historical expeditions
Everything that could go wrong will go wrong. But we will also experience things we have never done.

Who is hosting it?
The South Pole Expedition is led by Minji, a member of a classic sailing boat club in the UK. Her initial illusion of sailing with champagne soon vanished after being sea-sick for a year. Five years later, she is still learning about the boat and sea, on top of designing cultural experiences such as Chinatowns around the world.

The North Pole Expedition is led by Nidhi & Roopak. Roopak is a Construction Engineer & Nidhi is a Yoga Enthusiast & a Home Maker. They take on this dangerous mission on top of having two teenage kids, worshipping Indian Gods & running an Indian Mughal Show.

Why we organise these events?
2020 is a lockdown year for all of us. But hey, something nice happened! A group of us get together every week to explore cultures through Zoom. Our feet are constrained but not our minds. Contact us if you want to organise an online exploration of cultures for your family, friends or colleagues.
