Our visit Lisbon travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to Portuguese cuisine, top sightseeing tourist attractions including visiting churches, monasteries, parks, miradors, quirky neighborhoods, museums and castles. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Lisbon tourism brochure, Lisbon itinerary or Lisbon city tour also known as Lisboa, Portuguesa.

20 Things to do in Lisbon, Portugal Travel Video Transcript:

We feel like we know this city well, so in this Lisbon travel guide we’re going to show you around what we think are some of the best attractions. We only had 3 days in the city this time around, so this Lisbon itinerary will be perfect for any of you visiting on a long weekend escape.

We kicked off our first morning with a ride on Lisbon’s most iconic tram line:#28 bound for panoramic vistas and a hilltop castle. After postcard perfect views looking down over Alfama we went towards the castle, with a little detour offering a bit of street art.

St George Castle is a Moorish castle that looks down over the historic centre and the Tagus River. It’s one of the main tourist landmarks in the city and you get great views of Lisbon.

We circled back to visit the Jeronimos Monastery. Construction of this monastery was ordered by King Manuel, who selected the religious order of Hieronymite monks to occupy the monastery.

Pastéis de nata were created by the monks at the Jerónimos Monastery, and seeing as we were right next door, this was a very logical stop. After browsing at the Sunday Market we walked over to the Santa Justa Elevator, which is the only street lift in Lisbon for public service.

We hope you enjoyed our Lisbon travel guide and found it useful for planning your own trip. If you have any other suggestions of things to do in Lisbon please share those in the comments below.

This is part of our Travel in Portugal video series showcasing Portuguese food, Portuguese culture and Portuguese cuisine.

Our visit Lisbon travel guide covers some of the top attractions including the best in arts, entertainment, museums, nightlife and restaurants. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't find in your typical tourism brochure or Lisbon city guide.

20 things to do in Lisbon, Portugal | Top Attractions Travel Guide:

Our first stop of the day was Sao Jorge Castle, which is an old Moorish fortification that sits on a hill overlooking Lisbon and the Tagus River. You can get some nice panoramic views of the city from here, and they also have peacocks roaming the grounds.

Miradouro das Portas do Sol is one of the many look out points in Lisbon that offers postcard-perfect views of the city. This particular terrace overlooks the Alfama district and it is always popular with tourists.

Carmo is a mediaeval convent that was ruined during the 1755 earthquake, and today it is used as an archaeological museum. It's a strange feeling walking down the ruined nave of the church and seeing blue skies above your head, but that's exactly what makes it worth a visit.

Another place to visit is Belem Tower. The tower was built on the banks of the Tagus River, and it was meant to act as both a defense system and a ceremonial gateway into Lisbon.

The Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most visited sights in Lisbon. It's one of the best examples of Late Gothic Manueline architecture, so have a close look at the intricate detailing when you visit.

A fun way to get around Lisbon's hilly streets is by riding the trams. There are different lines across the city, but #28 is the most popular one with visitors.

The Santa Justa lift is an elevator that connects the lower streets of Baixa with Carmo Square, and it is the only remaining vertical elevator in Lisbon. Though it is meant to serve a functional role, it is also quite popular with visitors who find the elevator a novel idea.

And that's a wrap for our week in the Portuguese capital! We hope you enjoyed this video and that it gave you some ideas of things to do in Lisbon. As always, if you have any other suggestion for travellers of places to visit and things to do around town, feel free to share them in the comments below. Wishing you happy travels!

Ultimate guide of 20 things to do in Lisbon ????????

Traveling to Lisbon? Here is the ultimate guide of 20 things to do & eat in Lisbon Portugal!

Part 1 of this ultimate Lisbon travel guide series features #1-7 starting with a must-visit royal palace!

1.Ajuda Palace (8€ | Lisbon Card Free Entry): Step into the grandeur of Portuguese royalty at Ajuda Palace, where every room tells a story of luxury and history.

2. LX Factory: Immerse yourself in Lisbon's creative scene at LX Factory, a former industrial complex turned cultural hub. So many different options of artisanal shops to trendy cafes and bars.

3. Pilar 7 Bridge (6€ | Lisbon Card Free Entry): Take in breathtaking views of Lisbon from atop the Pilar 7 Bridge for a unique perspective of the city and the Tagus River. Normally the elevator will be working but for us, we weren’t so lucky!

4. Skip Santa Justa Lift (6€ | Lisbon Card Free Entry): Avoid the crowds and expense of the Santa Justa Lift by following our guide to a free viewpoint with equally stunning views of Lisbon's skyline. There was nothing special about the lift.

5. Carmo Convent (7€ | Lisbon Card 5€): Explore the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Carmo Convent, a reminder of Lisbon's rich history. You can also visit the nearby National Guard Museum (2€ | Lisbon Card Free Entry) right next door!

6. Praça do Comércio: Capture the essence of Lisbon at Praça do Comércio, Lisbon's grandest square. You can pose beneath the iconic Arco da Rua Augusta and watch the sunset before heading to dinner.

7. Taberna Sal Grosso (40€ total bill): Indulge in modern elevated Portuguese cuisine at Taberna Sal Grosso. The restaurant is cozy and the dishes were exceptional. We would recommend securing a reservation at least 7 days in advance. We recommend the fried squid, pork belly, and Cod A Bras! This was probably the best glass of white sangria we’ve ever had!

If you want to visit multiple attractions get the card we used for unlimited transportation and to save BIG on multiple attractions. Could you find it in my profile?
