Transport in Samoa - A brief history!

Hi everyone, so in 2017, you may have noticed throughout my youtube channel, that I stayed in the pacific island of Samoa for 2 years with my father's family.

From making these scripted educational videos on my channel, I figured that I look a history of transport in Samoa as many other english speaking youtubers barely covered it. I will also add in my own observations and also talk about a transport topic which nobody talks about but I found quite fun to talk about.

I Drove Into Someone's Lawn! || Samoa

Samoa admittedly had better food than Fiji. If you notice that my energy levels are down during the Samoa videos, you are right! It was really hard on me, I came home with stories to tell, a bad burn, 2 infections and then another sickness piled onto that. I'm mostly healthy now, so I'm back at it! I hope you enjoy :)

POLINESIA

The name was coined by French Polynesia Charles de Brasses in 1756 (unlike those of Melanesia, Micronesia and Malaysia shaped by Jules Dumont d'Urville in 1830) and derives from the ancient greek πολύς (many) and νησος (island ), that many islands

Chatham Islands: Pole commemorating 1600 Moriori at Kōpinga Marae

This is a remarkable pole with the names of roughly 1,600 Moriori who were alive in the 1830s written on it. The names were collected from surviving elders in the 1860s by an indigenous Moriori ethnographer named Hirawanu Tapu, who was a boy in the 1830s when his people were conquered by Māori from mainland New Zealand. By the 1860s the numbers of the Moriori had been greatly reduced by disease, massacre, land loss and a ban on marriage to other Moriori. Life on the Chatham Islands became more normal after that date but the numbers of Moriori of unmixed parentage continued to decline, until the last died in 1930. There are nearly 1,000 people who claim some Moriori descent, however. Here's a link to my first blog post (of 3) on the Chathams: .

GREECE: Ottoman (Turkish) prison (Yedi Kule) in Thessaloniki ????, the isolation cells

City of Thessaloniki, Greece - the Turkish prison (Ottoman prison) of Yedi Kule. Let's travel to Greece and let's visit the second largest city in Greece, Thessaloniki. We will go Yedi Kule in Thessaloniki, a fortress which has towered over the city of Thessaloniki, Greece, for over 1,000 years. Yedi Kule was first constructed during the Byzantine era (330 AD to 1453 AD), although this most recent version was rebuilt by the Ottomans after they conquered the city in the 1400s. It goes by a few names: Heptapyrgion, Eptapyrgio, and Yedi Kule, all of which mean “Fortress of Seven Towers.” It’s a bit of a misnomer, though, as the fortress actually has 10 towers.
In the 19th century, the Turks converted the fortress into a Turkish prison which was finally closed down in 1989 by the Greeks.

Thessaloniki is a Greek port city on the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea. Evidence of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman history remains, especially around Ano Poli, the upper town. The ruins of Roman Emperor Galerius’ 4th-century palace include the Rotunda that has been both a church and a mosque. Much of the city center was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1917. The rebuilt 20th-century city has a modern European layout.
