What NOT to Do in Sweden | Avoid These 10 Mistakes!

Swedish people are often polite and friendly, and they don't show their dislike very openly. But there are some things that Swedes HATE above all others! Avoid these pitfalls if you visit Sweden.

This list includes some common and some more unexpected items. They might be especially unexpected if you come from a very different culture compared to the Nordics and Scandinavia.

These are the ten things discussed in this video:

10. Buying a round of drinks for everyone at the table. It might sound like a common thing to do, but you should be wary of that in Sweden.
9. Asking about people's salaries. This is still a very taboo topic in Sweden, so avoid it.
8. Boasting is rude in almost every culture, but it's especially rude in Sweden due to the Law of Jante (Jantelagen).
7. If you mix up Sweden and Denmark, or Sweden and Norway, then you've really gone and annoyed us Swedes...
6. Don't stand on the wrong side of the escalator. Really. This is something only extremely ignorant or rude people do.
5. Many people are atheist or agnostic in Sweden, so discussing your religion is seen as....quite odd.
4. It's common to speak loudly in many cultures. Sweden is NOT one of those cultures.
3. Give people some space! Do not walk too close to people.
2. Here's a silly one that I just had to include: don't talk about the Finnish hockey team. We've been beaten a few too many times by them.
1. And finally, the most important thing not to do: do not EVER cut in line. Seriously. Don't even think about it.

5 Things You Will Love & Hate about Stockholm

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Interesting Facts about SWEDEN..!

Let's Get to Know More about SWEDEN.
Interesting & Fun Facts about Sweden that You Probably Don not Know.

Top 10 Things I HATE about SWEDEN

I like Sweden. I like living here. But that doesn't mean that Sweden is a perfect country - far from it! This is a video about the top 10 things I hate about Sweden.

For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel:

Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos:

This video is from the perspective of a Swede who has lived his entire life here, but hopefully I've had some influence from other cultures as well. So this might not be a typical Swedish perspective on the problems about living in Sweden.

I cover a wide range of topics, from the Swedish consensus mentality where everyone always have to come to a common agreement during a meeting, to the semi-state owned companies PostNord and SJ. But I also dive into some sensitive and controversial topics. So make sure that you're not too thin-skinned if you're a Swede watching this video.

Worth noting is that this won't be a list similar to what you find if you just google things people hate about Sweden. Many complaints that foreigners have about the country are not necessarily things I agree with. The supposed coldness of the Swedish people, for example. That's not a bug - it's a feature! That's how we are, and how I believe people should behave.

All in all there might be a few surprises and some obvious items as well. For example... No one really approves of the recent crime waves with gang wars we've had in Sweden! That's probably a universally hated thing...

Midsummer in Sweden

Midsummer in Sweden – a cherished tradition. The successful midsummer never-ending lunch party formula involves flowers in your hair, dancing around a pole, singing songs while drinking unsweetened, flavoured schnapps. And downing a whole load of pickled herring served with delightful new potatoes, chives and sour cream.

Top 10 Things I LOVE About SWEDEN

I recently made a video about things I hate about Sweden, so I was asked to do a follow-up about things I love about Sweden as well. This wasn't as easy as one might expect, but here are the top 10 things I LOVE about this country!

For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel:

Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos:

This video is from the perspective of a Swede who's lived all his life in Sweden. Sometimes it's hard to see the positive things about where you live - the grass is always greener on the other side, right? But I did my best to find ten things that I really appreciate about Sweden.

There's no surprise that nature is going to be part of this list, so I placed it at the very start. But I think that a few of the other items will surprise you. And I had to stray far from my Swedish roots when I got into things that I felt were dangerously close to boasting...

Check it out, and let me know what you think. Do you have completely different things that you like about Sweden? Let me know in the comments if so!
