17 Things Flight Attendants Want You to Know

Flight Attendants keep us safe in the air, but they also want to be able to do their job. So here are 17 things that Flight Attendants want flyers, travelers and vacationers to know when they board the plane.
1. Flight Attendants are not your mother.
2. Don't blame the flight attendants for plane delays if it is out of their control.
3. The plane is just a glorified version of public transportation so everyone is treated equal.
4. Have your stuff ready when you board the plane so you do not keep people from boarding and blocking the aisle.
5. Have your order ready when the flight attendant comes by, you know it is chicken or pasta
6. Please be specific with your drink orders. Your regular coffee may not mean the same, say Coffee Black or Coffee 2 sugars one cream.
7. Parents have your kids' orders ready too
8. Diet soda isn't a thing, tell them Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi or Diet Sprite.
9. Tell the flight attendants when you get on the plane about any allergies you have.
10. If you need anything to help you take medicine bring it with you. The plane may not have food and they may not be allowed to bring you a drink for awhile.
11. Pay attention to the safety briefing. It could save your life.
12. If your neighbor rings the call bell and orders something order with them instead of waiting for the flight attendant to come back and send them on another trip back to the galley.
13. Give the flight attendants your trash. It makes a difference on the turnaround time.
14. Stay in your seat until the seat belt sign goes off.
15. Parents, please do not let your kids use the plane as a jungle gym.
16. Bring stuff to entertain your kids and snacks.
17. Parents, don't get drunk on the plane and expect flight attendants to entertain your children.

10 Crazy Things You Didn't Know About Flight Attendants!

Heinrich Kubis was the world’s first air-steward and was on duty aboard the Hindenburg when it burst into flames. He managed to survive by jumping out of a window just before the craft hit the ground. Since then “cabin boys” were employed to serve food on flights and twenty years later, the first female stewardess was hired. In just 6 years, female hostesses had all but taken over the role. Nowadays it’s easy to feel like a knowledgeable traveler as commercial flight is so common, but we’re going to reveal 10 things you didn’t know about flight attendants!

1. No, They’re Not Waiters.
The term “waitresses of the skies” often gets bandied about. But flight attendants are so much more than that. Rather than waiters, they are more like police officers enforcing the right to remove you from the flight if they consider you to be problematical. In some countries they are even equipped with tasers. Oh yeh, and they are also...

2. Trained in Hand-to-Hand Combat
The cabin crew are responsible for the safety of the lives of sometimes up to 525 people being hurled through the air at 500mph. Being able to contain an unruly passenger in those circumstances is essential and many are trained in hand-to-hand combat. Think about that before you abuse the overhead bell...

3. They Are Trained to Deliver Babies on Board
Apart from other basic first aid procedures, flight attendants are also trained to deliver babies in an emergency situation. This training can be vital for a pregnant woman who finds herself suspended in the air at 35,000 feet, 2 hours away from the nearest airport.

4. They Have Survival Training
Their training isn’t just for routine flights. In the event of an emergency and having guided the passengers through an improvised crash landing, your flight attendant also has basic survival skills to ensure a prompt rescue and well-being of the remaining passengers throughout extreme conditions. Remember this the next time they kindly ask you to turn off your phone.

5. They Are Trained Fire Fighters
Maybe this would have gone down differently if Heinrich Kubis had been trained? Since the 60’s when smoking on planes was completely fine, flight attendants had to be trained in fire safety. Nowadays, despite the smoking ban, the cabin crew are still trained how to extinguish a fire in case of an emergency.

6. They Are Rigorously Selected
Back in the 40’s Air-Stewardesses were required to be; high school graduates, single, 20 years of age, 5 foot 2 but no more than 5'9, weigh 105 to 135 pounds and have at least 20/40 vision without glasses. Today many of these requirements still exist, including strict rules of hair length and colour and even makeup and fingernail styles. Only those who meet requirements are selected to be Flight Attendants.

7. It’s Often Their First Time
It’s not just the passengers that change on each flight. There are 100,000 flight attendants working in the U.S. alone. Each aboard a different flight, flying to a different destination. It’s not always possible for them to return with the same crew that they came with and are constantly rotating and working with new people. So it’s likely that you’re not the only stranger in the cabin.

8. They’re Not Immune to Jetlag
Imagine a 17 hour flight from Dallas to Sydney. It can leave you pretty jetlagged and disorientated right? Well imagine that everyday. Flight attendants have to soldier on through this and keep it together despite the dim lights and sleeping passengers. Luckily they have their own bunks and some attendants even use their days off to shake off the jet lag.

9. They Don’t Just Work on the Plane
The job of ticket agent is often rotated among the attendants of the departing flight. So when you irately demand an explanation for the delay, you’re likely to be talking to one of the hostesses aboard your flight who may or may not bring you an extra pillow.

10. Be nice
Flight Attendants have admitted that when in the air they almost have complete control over who gets seat upgrades and complimentary perks. Many attendants reserve better seats, meal preferences, double drinks, and a selection of limited stocked complimentary items for passengers who treat them like fellow human beings.

Which one of these facts surprised you the most? Comment Below!

Long Flight HACKS You Need To Know About!

Long Flight HACKS You Need To Know About!

Welcome back to Around The Globe, today on the channel we are going to check out the 11 HACKS to survive long-haul flights! Thanks to the miracle of human flight, we can now fly direct from Newark, New Jersey, to Singapore in just under 19 hours. That also means people spend nearly an entire day of their lives off the ground, in cruising altitude limbo, only to land with the kind of jet-lag that eclipses exhaustion. For any serious traveler, long-haul flights are a necessary evil. How do they do it? Here, 12 tips for surviving—even enjoying—a day in the air.

Buy your ticket as early as possible. Waiting and hoping for that $20 price drop, more often than not, is not worth the trouble. Not only does buying early give you peace of mind in the weeks and months leading up to your departure, it increases the likelihood that enough seats remain open for you to pick where you want to sit—whether you prefer to cuddle up to a window, have easy access to the aisle, or stretch your legs in an exit row. Wait until the last minute and chances are good that you (and your elbows) will be sandwiched into a dreaded middle seat. Frequent flier? The time to cash those miles in on an upgrade is now. Wear your most comfortable outfit. That fitted blouse and skin-tight pair of jeans might make you feel like you’re 20 again, but trust us—after sitting (and attempting to sleep) in them for 15 hours, you’ll never want to look at that outfit again. When it comes to long-distance travel, stick to a “comfy-chic” dress code of neutral, loose-fitting layers you can move around in. Besides keeping cozy on a flight, you’ll also guard against deep vein thrombosis—a serious condition that’s aggravated when you sit in cramped positions for long periods of time. More on the HACKS to survive long-haul flights when you finish this video.

10 Airline Secrets! Flight Attendants CONFESS!

Which of today's inside secrets surprised you the most? Let me know in the comments below!

1. Oxygen Masks.
We've all heard the airplane safety speech
In the event of a loss of cabin pressure, an oxygen mask will drop from the compartment above your head, place the mask over your nose and mouth and pull on the elastic tabs on either side.
But what they don't tell us, is that in the event of a loss of cabin pressure you only have around 30 seconds to put the mask on before you black out and once you have the mask on the oxygen supply is only enough to last between 12 and 15 minutes, this is the time the pilot has to reduce altitude to stabilize the pressure.

2. No Pay Delay.
Have you ever been sat in your seat on an airplane, taxiing to the runway, only to find out your flight has been delayed?
Well, the chances are that the crew already knew the flight was delayed before shutting the airplane door.
This is because flight attendants only really get paid for flight hours only, this means that the time they spend inside the airport, greeting passengers, and stowing luggage isn't classified as flight time and so is paid at just $1,50 an hour.
Once the airplane door is shut and it leaves the gate, the attendants are getting paid flight hours and so, if possible, they prefer to wait out a delay on the actual runway whilst earning full pay.

3. The Chime Codes.
The chime noises that you may hear over the airplane speaker during your flight are actually a code that attendants and crew use to communicate with each other.
The first chime after take-off is sent by the pilot to indicate the landing gear has been retracted.
A single high-tone chime is a passenger needing assistance either in their seat or in the bathroom,
Three low chimes alert the attendants of approaching turbulence and that they should get back to their seats.
A high chime then a low chime is an attendant or the pilot requiring assistance,
A high then low chime repeated three times means the issue requiring assistance is serious.

4. Airplanes Are Not Perfect.
Airplanes are vehicles, like trains, buses, and even your car! and just like all vehicles, they have parts that break or wear out and may not get replaced until the vehicle is due for its maintenance service.
For this reason, every aircraft has something called a M.E.L. or Minimum Equipment List, which stipulates the minimum equipment necessary for the aircraft to provide a safe and functional service and maintain the quality of the airline.
This means that almost every Aircraft in the air right now has something wrong with it! nothing important, or that appears on the M.E.L, but little things like faulty lights or broken handles that will be fixed the next time it's due for maintenance. This is why it's important the tell the flight crew if you notice anything broken, like for example the fold-up tray, don't worry, you won't be charged for the damage, but the crew can write it down in the log book so it can be repaired at a later date.

5. Sleeping Passenger.
That sleeping passenger across the aisle from you, may not actually be sleeping.
If a passenger dies on a flight and the flight is fully booked the flight attendants actually have nowhere they can put them.
In order to avoid disturbing other passengers, they will prop them up in their seats and cover them in a blanket to make them look as if they were sleeping.
This remains true for the majority of airlines except for Singapore Airlines which actually has a cupboard installed next to the exit where a corpse can be strapped in and stored until arrival at the destination airport.

6. Gas.
Feeling bloated on a flight is normal and happens because the pressure difference causes gases to expand, including those inside our bodies!
This doesn't just happen to passengers but to flight attendants too, and because they're working constantly they have to release these gases while they work.

7. Security.
In the event of an accident the airplane's security protocol is brutal:
-Disabled people, minors, babies, pregnant women, and the elderly will be the last to exit the aircraft,
-If ditched in the sea, an aircraft is designed to float for at least 15 minutes, however, the aircraft is also design to fall apart to help absorb the impact so successful ditching in the ocean is rare.

8. Dirty.
On short to medium flights the turn around times are very short, there just isn't time to clean everything.
Trays won't be wiped down so don't put your food directly on them.
The toilets will get a quick clean but not a mop so if you see that the floor looks wet, well lets just say, it isn't water.

11 Things You Should Avoid Doing on the Plane

When you board an airplane, you expect a pleasant flight with as much comfort as you could get. But your comfort — and safety too, for that matter, — heavily depends on your friendly flight attendants.
Of course, they won’t say anything, but there are things they frown upon — and one that they just loathe. But I’m getting ahead of myself. So, if you really want a nice journey, you should keep in mind not to do those things that earn you the wrath of the flight attendants.

SUMMARY
- When there’s a line of passengers waiting to use the bathroom while everyone else is looking for their seats, delays are guaranteed.
- So when you take too much carry-on with you, two unpleasant things happen at once: one, you make other people wait while you put all your stuff up there, and two, those people who’ve been waiting for you can’t put their own bags into the bins because you’ve hogged them.
- Even pleasant smells can get on your nerves when there’s just too much of them. That perfumed piece of handmade soap you carry on with you has a wonderful aroma, but only for the first few minutes.
- When a flight attendant approaches you to ask a question, it’s polite to take off your headphones and pay them your full attention.
- Flight attendants confess that one of the most frustrating things is when passengers start trying to persuade them to change their seat assignments. The thing is, they simply can’t do that.
- When taking off, taxiing, and landing, as well as during turbulence, you should stay seated and fasten your belt in case anything happens.
- If you insistently press the call button for no good reason, chances are you’ll be asked to stop doing that — or even ignored completely.
- When you ask a flight attendant what they have, you make other passengers wait longer and get edgy — consider this when you take your time ordering your food and drinks.
- One of the downsides of working as a flight attendant is that you only get paid for the hours of actual flight. All the work you do while on land is free.
- Safety presentations are really similar on most airlines, but it’s still worth it to refresh them in your memory before the flight.
- It’s absolutely not fine to poke or grab a flight attendant for any reason, just like any other person. Some attendants say, though, that there are people who find it okay to touch them by the knee or ankle when they pass by.

How do Budget Airlines Work?

This video is inspired by all of the travel that we have done with budget airlines in 2022, we have used the insights we learnt from working with Ryanair in 2022 and of course we took inspiration from the AMAZING Wendover productions long form video on budget airlines.

in this video we show you how budget airlines work.

we go through some of the ways budget airlines are able to offer tickets at really low prices. The business model really took off in europe and has seen a rise in budget airlines such as easyjet, ryanair and wizz air.

firstly You will notice budget airlines do not to use an air bridge to get off the pane and use a stairs instead. This is because It's cheaper.

Budget airlines like ryanair only buy and use one type of airplane. Budget airlines use only one type of aircraft. (EasyJet only uses the Airbus A320). why is this? it's because when ordering aircraft, the business can get a bulk discount on the planes

the Cabin crew onboard budget airlines will be at the beginning of their career. less experienced cabin crew are cheaper and their salaries are not as high.

the budget airlines offer fewer amenities onboard. Aircraft maintenance can be costly (seat reclines, headrests, and in-flight entertainment screens). all plane amenities have to be have to be services and maintained regularly. Budget airlines reduce maintenance costs by removing these luxuries.

ryanair and easy jet dont fly to major airports such as heathrow or JFK in new york. Landing fees at major airports cost more. Budget airlines will choose to fly to london luton or london stansted on a budget airline. .

Boarding a Plane: 7 Things Flight Attendants Notice About You When You Board A Plane

Boarding a Plane: 7 Things Flight Attendants Notice About You When You Board A Plane
Flight attendants may seem chipper and carefree, but don’t be fooled: While pouring bubbly and chatting with travelers, these trained first responders are also keeping a close watch over the plane for threats, starting the very moment you board.
“Passengers think we are just greeting them at the door,” Jay Robert, a flight attendant and founder of Fly Guy, told HuffPost. “But they’d be surprised at the number of threats we eliminate at that stage of the flight which would have caused a delay or even harmed their health and safety.”
We asked flight attendants to name the first thing they notice about passengers when they board a plane. Most of their answers have less to do with judging your in-flight look and more about keeping you safe. The right boarding behavior could score you better service, too. Here’s what the cabin crew notices
