Things to know about Netherlands | Interesting Facts about Netherlands | Facts about #Netherlands

Things to know about Netherlands | Interesting Facts about Netherlands | Facts about #Netherlands

We have provided you with a list of some interesting facts about the Netherlands so that you can plan your trip there.

• The Netherlands has the highest population density in Europe. Under United Nations data, The total number of people living in the Netherlands was 17,140,098 as of August 2020. The entire surface of the nation is 33,720 sq km, giving it a population density of 508 inhabitants per square km. It is interesting to note that around 92.5 percent of the population is in urban regions. Plus, 40 percent of the nation's inhabitants live in the Randstad region, a fusion of cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht.
• The Netherlands ranks as the sixth happiest nation in the world as per the 2010 World Happiness Report. The annual report evaluates 156 countries, considering healthful life expectations and trust, freedom corruption, and social support. The cheerful Dutch have plenty to be grateful for. It is interesting to note that the country is ranked higher than its neighboring countries, Germany (17th) and Belgium (20th).
• The Netherlands has more bicycles than people. Yes, it's true. There are more than 22 million bikes in the United States and just 17 million people. This includes the innovative (if not as attractive) bakfiets, a combination of a bicycle with a giant container at the front, to carry pets, children, and even shopping. A few sources declare that the Dutch ride an average of 2.9km daily and employ bicycles for more than one-quarter of all journeys. This is in contrast to only 2 percent of the United Kingdom. Other studies suggest that an average Dutch person rides 1,000km per year over about 250 to 300 journeys.
• The Netherlands has more than 1000 windmills. There are more than 1,000 windmills located in the Netherlands, and many are open to visitors the entire year. Certain windmills, like the 19 in the Kinderdijk World Heritage Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, still serve to draw water away from the soil. There are only a handful of windmills that are operating commercially across the Netherlands. However, they're still worth visiting if you have the opportunity.
• The Dutchman was the first to develop Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a common feature of modern technology, rooted in the Netherlands. In the 90s that the idea of wireless connection between devices was first introduced by Dutch scientist Dr. Jaap Haartsen. The Bluetooth feature is accessible on many platforms, including devices made by Huawei, one of the many tech companies that have discovered a new home in the Netherlands through NFIA.
• The world's largest exporter of tulips is in the Netherlands. It is not surprising that the Netherlands is the largest exporter of flowers. About two billion flowers are exported from the country every year and are transported to various locations around the world. Most of the flowers are auctioned off at the renowned FloraHolland auctions in Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg, and Aalsmeer, The world's biggest trade center for flowers and plants.
• The Dutchmen are the tallest in the world. The rumors are true. The Dutch are the tallest in the world, with an average of 175.62cm. Dutch males are also the tallest in the world, averaging 182.53cm. Sure, researchers believe that environmental factors like lower social inequality, the availability of universal healthcare, and high dairy consumption are all factors that contribute to this. If you're trying to gain just a couple inches taller, you might consider visiting those Dutch cheese stores!
• The first country to agree on same-sex marriage. The Netherlands is known to be a liberal and progressive country. This is partly due to the truth it was the Netherlands was the very first nation to allow same-sex marriage. Since 2001, it's been legal for two people and two females to be married in the Netherlands. Since 2001, more than 15,000 couples who are same-sex have been married. The number of couples married on the same level also hit a record in 2018, which saw more than 1500 couples married.

Why The Netherlands Is The Tulip Capital Of The World

Legend says that the tulip became so popular in the 17th century that it created an economic bubble known as “Tulip Mania.” The buying and selling of bulbs became so expensive that the market crashed. Though historians differ on the extremity and accuracy of the legend, tulips still remain an important aspect of the Netherlands’ history.

Give me short history about Amsterdam

ChatGPT
Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands. It has a rich and fascinating history that spans several centuries. Here's a brief overview:

Origins: Amsterdam's origins can be traced back to the 12th century when a small fishing village was established on the banks of the Amstel River. The village grew over time and gained city rights in 1300.

Dutch Golden Age: The 17th century was known as the Dutch Golden Age, during which Amsterdam became a major hub of global trade, commerce, and culture. The Dutch East India Company, one of the world's first multinational corporations, was headquartered in Amsterdam. The city's prosperity led to the construction of magnificent canal houses, iconic landmarks like the Royal Palace, and the growth of a vibrant arts scene.

Tolerance and Enlightenment: Amsterdam gained a reputation for its spirit of tolerance and acceptance during the 17th and 18th centuries. It became a refuge for people fleeing religious persecution, attracting diverse communities and fostering a culture of intellectual and artistic freedom. Influential philosophers like René Descartes and Baruch Spinoza resided in Amsterdam during this period.

Industrialization and Modernization: In the 19th century, Amsterdam underwent significant urban expansion and modernization. The Industrial Revolution brought changes to the city's economy, infrastructure, and social structure. Canals were replaced with new streets, and industrial areas developed around the port.

World War II: During World War II, Amsterdam was occupied by Nazi Germany from 1940 to 1945. The Jewish population suffered greatly, with many being deported and killed in the Holocaust. Anne Frank, a Jewish girl, famously hid with her family in a secret annex in Amsterdam before being discovered and sent to concentration camps.

Contemporary Amsterdam: In recent decades, Amsterdam has continued to thrive as a global city known for its cultural diversity, progressive values, and high quality of life. It is a hub for commerce, finance, tourism, and innovation. The city's iconic canals, historic architecture, world-class museums (such as the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum), and vibrant cultural scene make it a popular destination for visitors from around the world.

Amsterdam's history is diverse and complex, and this overview only scratches the surface of its many historical developments.
